KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In your role as Property Manager you will be required to carry out the following:

GENERAL OPERATIONS:

• Work with Specialists to schedule the pick-up and receipt of consigned property as well as delivery of sold and RTO property

• Assist in establishing and continually maintaining JMA best practices for: Property movement, inventory, storage, and receipt & release procedures

• Travel to client locations and oversee property pickup and deliveries

• Unload/load trucks while maintaining proper paperwork & inventory procedures

• Unpack / pack artwork & fragile items carefully while maintaining proper inventory procedures

• Assist photography by preparing and moving property onto and off of photo sets, returning property to warehouse inventory locations

• Meet with specialists and Business Director to plan the timely setup and staffing of all previews, exhibitions, and events held by JMA

• Assist customers during previews

• Assist customers with pickup and delivery of items while maintaining proper inventory and release procedures ensuring correct and complete deliveries

• Maintain company security procedures and standard operating procedures

• Establish and maintain warehouse inventory standards

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Schedule, supervise and lead Art Handlers

• Appropriately staff art handlers for pick-ups, preview and sale day operations

• Maintain pool of part-time / casual Art Handling staff. Alert Business Director and schedule as needed

• Communicate the need for overtime when it arises and obtain pre-approval from Business Director

• Ensure employee time-off calendar is kept up to date for all supervised staff.

• Ensure Art Handlers are properly trained in every aspect of the art handling process including but not limited to: Movement, packing, transport & storage

GALLERY AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE:

• Properly maintain moving equipment

• Oversee and schedule regular maintenance of company all company vehicles. Inform Business Director and obtain approval for repairs.

• Store and maintain preview cases and equipment including but not limited to: Cases, pedestals, whitewalls, chairs, tables, table cloths, etc…

• Recommend and assist scheduling gallery maintenance including but not limited to: patch & paint walls, polish floors etc…

PROPERTY AND ADMINISTRATIVE BEST PRACTICES:

• Maintain an in-depth working knowledge of JMA software

• Maintain complete knowledge of property pick-up and release procedures

• Establish and continually maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards in specialized Art handling including but not limited to: The ability to properly identify various mediums & materials in order to tailor handling, packing & storage accordingly

• Stay abreast of new property handling equipment and practices. Research and recommend new equipment, warehouse configuration and transport practices continually improving the safety of JMA employees and consigned property

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-years’ experience handling fine art or antique furniture desired

• 1-year supervisory experience desired

• Inventory management experience preferred

• Ability to perform physical tasks including: lifting, pushing, pulling items using proper lifting/moving techniques – minimum weight lifting capability of 40 lbs

• The ability to safely lift and maneuver large furniture items with the appropriate furniture moving equipment, and with assistance from other staff as needed

• Ability to drive and operate up to 26’ commercial moving trucks

• Ability to utilize appropriate lifting and moving equipment (i.e., pallet jack, hand truck, etc.)

• Forklift certification or ability to pass a forklift certification

The Twisted Thistle Apothicaire’s are traditional medicinal herbal teas and gift shops. We source bulk herbs from a number of locations and package them (individually or as blends) into our own packaging – this is where you come in!

This is a bit of a multifaceted job that requires two distinct temperaments and strengths:


  1. The ability to focus on a repetitive task (like packing) for extended periods of time, while keeping a self-directed pace, and

  2. A mind which can actively assess and organize, which demands precision and an ability to catch mistakes and rectify them.

The first strength refers to the aspect of the job which includes the packing of herbs into bags, and sealing and labeling the bags, as well as cleaning and organizing the packing area.

Situations where the second strength comes in handy include comparing batches of bulk herbs to find inconsistencies, assessing stock levels for ordering bulk herbs on a monthly basis, keeping an eye on labeling and barcoding to ensure accuracy, and controlling proper stock rotation for the sake of freshness.

A large part of the job is tedious (and thus is not a good match if you're looking for a creative or people-focused job) however accuracy is key, so clear attention to detail is a must!  Also, we take the time to train effectively so the right person can succeed quickly and easily (and move up the pay scale as quickly as possible!) We begin by training for the packing/labeling/stock-rotation/cleaning part of the job, and expand into other responsibilities within a month or two.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Firstly, this is a 3-4 day/week position with the possibility of a 5th day


    • 6-8 hours a day of packing while adhering to food safety standards, and labeling and sealing.



  • Additional tasks/responsibilities which fit into these 3-4 days:


    • Restocking and Stock Rotation

    • Cleaning Tea/Kitchenette area and floor of back room

    • Cleaning the Packing Area

    • Taking out the recycling and your trash from the back room and packing area

    • Making Blends

    • Deep clean of the back room (1/month)

    • General Merchandise Receiving & Allocating

    • Inventory Control/Count



These are other tasks that, in time, you will learn and may become part of your responsibilities:


  • Stock Taking all bulk herbs (1/month)

  • Placing Bulk Herb Orders (1/month)

  • Receiving Bulk Herb Order into stock and combining stock.

  • Stock taking all packing supplies and stationary

  • Preparing weekly inventory transfer

Day Warehouse Worker:


· Checks and receives inbound product and unloads shipments utilizing a forklift.


· Ensures that the wheels of the trucks being unloaded have their wheels chocked before unloading begins.


· Accounts for broken product including proper clean up and disposal.


· Restocks cases and pallets in proper location in a neat and orderly manner.


· Performs general cleanup of warehouse (including restrooms).


· Checks in all driver returns and delivery invoices while restocking items.


· Ensures that the equipment is in good working condition and must report any equipment problems to warehouse management.


Night Warehouse Loader:



  • Picks product from the warehouse and prepares orders for shipment.

  • Manually loads product required.

  • Ensures correct quantity and correct product is being loaded.

  • Moves product utilizing hand truck.

  • Performs general cleanup of warehouse, break room and restroom. (i.e. sweeping and cleaning breakage, discarding shrink wrap, card board boxes and emptying trash cans including the ones in the restroom.)

  • Reports any damaged equipment, and/or inventory breakage to warehouse management.


Qualifications:
· 2-3 years of experience working in warehouse/ distribution environment is desired.


· Overtime, weekends, and holidays mandatory if required.


· Ability to operate forklifts, order pickers, pallet jacks, and reach trucks.


· Must be able to work in cold environment (Malt Facility for Commerce employees)


Physical Standards:
