We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Application Scientist with extensive experience with proteomic sample preparations and back-end data analysis to join our dedicated professional technical team. The successful candidate will help lead our efforts to apply our novel hyperstable proteases to proteomic sample digestions in any number of contexts. Primary research responsibilities will include the testing and development of various front-end sample procedures using entirely new classes of proteases developed in our enzyme-discovery pipeline. This position is fully funded by a National Institutes of Health SBIR Phase II grant. The successful applicant will have the desire to adapt and grow with our young company and the ability to independently run a team to accomplish defined business and technical goals. Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for working as part of a lean team in a fast-paced ‘startup’ environment are essential. Most importantly, we are seeking an individual who is willing and able to be resourceful, creative, flexible and has a strong desire to learn new things while having fun doing it. 


  • Develop and test novel proteases and enzymes for proteomic sample preparation.

  • Optimize protocols for performance, ease, and speed.

  • Manage project goals and timelines.

  • Supervise direct reports who will assist with biochemical assays, enzyme production, and downstream processing.

  • Collaborate with partner companies and academic labs to field test enzyme products.

  • Establish quality control specifications and testing.

  • Work with co-founders to design product packaging, inserts, and website copy.

  • Identify and test new specialty applications.  

Job Qualifications·  

  • A passion for extreme biology and enzymes.

  • PhD in biochemistry or related field with proteomics experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency managing people and running a science team.

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and scientific documentation skills.

  • Must be self-directed, able to manage competing demands and tight deadlines, and persistently focused on prioritizing the delivery of value to customers.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $75,000 to $100,000 annually; commensurate with experience

Job Description

THREAD is continuing to grow, deliver and focus on our market leadership position enabling our customers to unlock the power of decentralized studies with eCOA and Virtual Visits. We are changing how clinical research is conducted in Phase I - IV studies helping sponsors/CROs, sites and participants to conduct studies with a modern approach to support more efficient pharmaceutical and medical device research.

We are hiring a life sciences' experienced Product Leader (depending on experience with a title from Director to VP) that will work directly with and manage Product Team members. This position is preferred to be filled in RTP, North Carolina office and is open to highly qualified candidates from other locations (home-based or in another THREAD office in Boston, Orange Country, CA, etc.) within the US.

This Product Leader is responsible to lead platform efforts from strategy to idea through development to launch to in-production support with customers, partners and internal teams. The position will interface directly with all THREAD departments, be a member of the THREAD leadership team and be empowered to ensure our roadmap is delivered with the highest quality on schedule and within budget.

We are looking for an experienced leader with a proven track record in developing products/projects from start to finish. Life science and clinical research experience is a key requirement. Experience in a biopharma, CRO and/or clinical research technology organization focused on eCOA, EDC, innovation technologies, direct-to-patient engagement/data collection, etc. is a requirement.


The Product Leader is responsible to deliver the THREAD product roadmap, planning, execution, communications and post-launch optimization for all features and functionality. The activities include, but are not limited to;

  • understanding and prioritizing customer and/or market needs that should be addressed by the THREAD product line

  • provide roadmap guidance, strategy and enhancements with the President

  • lead and guide the entire team (i.e. product, design, development, quality, operations, etc.) to follow THREAD procedures to design, build and release products with an agile, accelerated and compliant approach

  • lead, manage and motivate the team towards on schedule completion with the highest quality within budget

  • focus on rapid feedback to ensure continuous improvement of the product

  • develop and train on the product features with customers, partners and internal teams

  • excellent external communicator and ability to present at conferences, webinars and other events to represent THREAD's platform

The Product Leader must have an aptitude for translating industry knowledge (i.e. clinical research/mobile health), digital health technology, user feedback and business information with diverse cross-functional teams including business leaders, engineering, developers and design teams to deliver new product features.


  • Lead the team via direct line and dotted line management to define new product features and ensure delivery from start to finish

  • Attend and contribute to customer meetings that require discussion on new/future product features

  • Manage product roadmap to ensure roadmap is achieved across all Product teams

  • Gather business requirements

  • Attend and support development team meetings

  • Prioritize features for upcoming sprints based on business and customer need

  • Work closely with developers to ensure the features being built align with the company’s strategic vision

  • Make key decisions on feature-related questions from the development/product team

  • Review and approve release plans from IT Project Manager

  • Demo recently released features and product updates to the company, partners and customers

  • Review completed features and document public release notes and feature announcements

  • Review and approve the creation of product documentation and SOPs from the product team

  • Lead the strategy, go-to-market strategy and post-launch KPIs for release of all responsible key features

  • Support Project Leads and project-specific platform questions that require escalation

  • Support Business Development team with customer specific meetings to discuss platform details/capabilities

  • Manage specific vendor relationships and evaluate performance (when applicable)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to lead, manage and guide design team(s)

  • Ability to line manage teams via direct reporting and/or dotted line management

  • Understanding of Software as a Service (SaaS) models and platforms

  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Proven ability to lead product development from start to successful launch

  • Extensive knowledge of clinical research industry features such as eCOA, decentralized studies, direct-to-patient research, digital health, etc.

  • Knowledge of Phase I - IV studies and registries

  • Proven ability to work under pressure

  • Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, MS Office, Google Analytics

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills

  • Excellent teamwork skills with an ability to get the work done with minimal or no supervision by the President

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 6+ years of experience in project/product management positions

  • As noted above, require experience in life sciences via biopharma, CRO and/or clinical research technology companies

  • Experience with Agile methodologies for SDLC

  • Experience with eCOA, digital health and/or decentralized studies

Physical Requirements

  • Willing to travel as necessary

  • Extensive time in front of a computer
