Requirements:

* Plans to stay in San Jose for at least two years

Summary:The School of Rock Music Instructor teaches students from ACDC to Zappa. The Instructor creates a safe and cool environment for students to achieve their musical and creative potential and insures that each School of Rock student has an exceptional musical journey.In support of that goal, the Vocal Instructor is responsible for all music and education-related elements within the lessons. The Instructor creates a dynamic lesson experience to ensure their students are challenged and inspired. The Instructor embodies rock and roll in a positive way and is responsible for creating the most valuable student lesson experience possible.We are currently looking for vocal instructors, but we teach five core areas at School of Rock - keys, vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Many of our instructors have broader musical talent as well which we do our best to engage.Music Instruction


  • Maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons and shows

  • Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs

  • Create and document thoughtful lesson plans

Customer Connection


  • Communicate regularly with parents on progress of students after lessons

  • Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school

  • Pitch in during canceled lessons in the overall execution of the program

  • Assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in school

Candidate Requirements:


  • 4 + years’ experience teaching and/or performing music professionally

  • Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design

  • Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Very strong customer relations skills

  • Resourceful and good problem-solver

  • Works well under pressure

Golestan is a multi-cultural, multi-language, progressive, independent school that follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.  

Golestan is looking to hire a Music Teacher for our elementary program starting in August 2020. This person will be working several one-hour sessions a week with our mixed aged group classes.

Our transdisciplinary approach to learning requires the music teacher to work closely with other teachers to integrate the IB curriculum into their music classes.  

As the Music Teacher, this person will be responsible for:


  • Teaching the fundamentals of vocal and instrumental music to children from TK to second grade.

  • Providing students with basic vocal instruction and teach them about various instruments, including percussion, brass, woodwinds and string instruments. 

  • Using hands-on activities to teach children pitch, rhythm and music notation

  • Creating a fun and engaging classroom experience for the kids

  • Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines (Literacy, Math, Science, PE, Garden/Farm, Art) and language tracks (English, Persian, Hebrew and Arabic) to design a cohesive IB curriculum for TK/K and First/Second grade students

  • Ideally, all of the above would occur in a full Arabic immersion setting.

The ideal candidate must: 


  • Have at least one year of experience teaching music to young children in a classroom/group settings

  • Have experience planning and implementing music curriculum using a variety of teaching approaches (Orff preferred).

  • Have excellent classroom management skills

  • Embody the school values of kindness, mindfulness and courage through direct, open, honest and gentle communication with colleagues, students and families

  • Be organized

  • Be open to feedback 

  • Be innovative and willing/able to think outside the box

  • Be deeply kind, warm, nurturing, and empathetic

Preferred Qualities:


  • Arabic speaking teacher preferred

  • Degree in music education

  • Experience working in a language immersion school setting
