Company Description

Cat Depot’s mission is to save lives, find loving homes, and provide resources and education to improve the destiny of homeless cats.

Since 2003, our goal remains to reduce the number of homeless cats in Sarasota and to help the overall feline lifesaving rate in Florida, one of the top five U.S. states with the highest number of homeless animals.

Cat Depot's objectives are to find loving homes for all adoptable cats entering our facility and to provide other resources that encourage forever families, such as affordable veterinary services and a cat food bank for free-roaming community cats and personal family pets whose humans are in need. We offer trap, neuter, vaccinate, return (TNVR) services, and community education programs.

Cat Depot's programs and educational efforts stress the positive impact that kindness and compassion for cats and all animals have on developing empathetic relationships within our community.

Programming

* Rescue: Cat Depot works daily to rescue abandoned, abused, injured, relinquished, and free-roaming community/feral cats and kittens. In 2018, Cat Depot rescued over 1,460 felines and assisted with local and national rescues.  Adoption: Our goal is to find a good match and a loving home for every cat who enters Cat Depot. Dedicated efforts have resulted in increased adoption numbers every year for the last five years. 1,424 cats and kittens found forever homes in 2018 through Cat Depot’s adoption program.

* Humane Education Program: Cat Depot provides the community with educational activities that promote awareness and knowledge of cat behavior and care through public workshops, lectures, printed materials, and an online resource library.

* Community Cat/TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) Program: Our Community Cat Program was developed to educate the public about free-roaming cats, supply food for community cats and personal pets, offer resources for free and low-cost medical care, loan traps and offer transportation assistance, provide free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, and place adoptable cats and kittens into loving homes.

* Rose Durham Cat Care Clinic: In an effort to care for sick and injured cats and their distressed owners, Cat Depot opened an affordable care clinic in November 2014. Reduced prices have helped people and their pets not only in Sarasota County by the surrounding areas.

2018 Accomplishments

* Sarasota’s SRQ Magazine readers chose Cat Depot’s Rose Durham Cat Care Clinic (RDCCC) as the “Best Veterinarian” in the metro area for the second year in a row. Additional awards received through SRQ Magazine’s Best of Local were Best Local Non-Profit, Best Community Accomplishment: No-Kill Kitten Season.

* Over 1,400 cats and kittens found forever homes via Cat Depot’s adoption program in 2018. Nearly 500 cats and kittens were pulled or transferred from Sarasota County Animal Services and other local municipal and private shelters for admittance into Cat Depot.

* Through Cat Depot’s Emergency Response Team, we accepted approximately 150 cats throughout the course of the year from two hoarding cases and natural disaster relief.

* In addition, over 6,000 feline clients were seen in the RDCCC with 1,213 receiving free services through our income-qualified service programs.
