Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Vet Tech will work with shelter manager in administering the meds in conjunction with Stray Cat Alliance’s medical team, ensuring the health and well being of all cats in our care. No euthanasia will be performed. The only time Stray Cat Alliance authorizes euthanasia is when the animal is truly suffering and then a licensed veterinarian will perform euthanasia. *This position focuses on the medical care of the organization, working with on-site vet and effectively collaborating with veterinary and shelter management best practices to ensure a high standard of care for cats in our care. The Vet Tech performs all of the duties of a Registered Vet Technician, including providing high-quality, practical veterinary care to a wide range of emergency patients. In addition, would be responsible for ensuring excellent quality and consistency of patient care through the development, review, revision and implementation of Stray Cat Alliance’s policies and protocols.

Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to provide secretarial and administrative services to the Executive Vice President (EVP) of the National Association of Federal Veterinarians (NAFV). Key roles include undertaking a range of discrete tasks, as directed by the EVP; acting as secretary to the Association; Monitoring and maintaining the Associations expenses and budget; maintenance/updating of the website; providing assistance on a range of association matters including responding to queries about dues and membership.

NAFV provides a range of services for its members including consultation with government agencies, representation with Congress, mentoring, and providing advice and counsel for administrative and personnel matters.

The incumbent is responsible for the provision of secretarial and administrative services to the EVP including prioritizing workload, arranging functions, events, committee meetings, travel, addressing phone requests from members, completing tasks related to incoming mail, and liaising with a range of internal and external individuals, organizations and government departments. The incumbent undertakes a range of discrete tasks, as directed by the EVP, including investigation and compilation of information; preparing components of the Association’s annual financial statement and liaise with outside organizations and external auditors; monitoring and providing reports on the budget to the EVP and Board of Directors; providing support to the members and Board of Directors, including compilation of information for the preparation of agendas, writing minutes, and taking appropriate follow-up action; coordinating the maintenance/update of Association policies and procedures and details on the website, taking responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the information; maintaining the membership lists; and conducting an annual survey of veterinarians within the federal government.

The employee reports directly to the EVP. There is no overtime unless authorized by the EVP in writing. The position may be eligible for upgrading to a management position at a later date. Commuting expenses are not included but limited work-at-home is possible. Training on specific software programs may be offered.

Essential criteria

• Demonstrated experience in providing secretarial and/or administrative support to groups/committees.

SNIP Clinic Veterinarian Assistant

Summary of Purpose: Responsible for assisting veterinarians and assistants with handling, surgical and anesthetic procedures ensuring daily and high level care of all surgical patients.

Duties (Essential Functions):
•Gather information from clients during intake including brief animal health history.
•Assists Veterinary Surgeons with conducting physical examinations of animals to determine surgical fitness; reports health concerns to attending veterinarian.
•Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes instruments and medical supplies for Veterinarian’s use.
•Prepares animals for sterilization surgery; assists Veterinarian in surgery as needed.
•Restrains monitors and maintains patients during induction, intubation, and anesthesia.
•Observes animals post surgery to detect any abnormal behavior or symptoms and promptly reports them to Veterinarian.
•Stays current in knowledge of emergency drugs and protocol.
•Provides in-person and telephone client services, education and answer questions.
•Actively promotes spay and neuter initiatives.
•Informs clients of animal health and surgical aftercare instructions.
•Cleans and sanitizes animal facility areas including treatment rooms, kennels, cages, work areas and public areas.
•Maintain and re-stock all areas of the clinic.
