We are seeking someone experienced and comfortable working in a  veterinary clinic setting, at the front desk, in the pharmacy, and with the patients.  Our ideal candidate would be flexible, reliable, compassionate, calm under pressure, experienced in veterinary medicine, able to lift and carry at least 50lbs, work Saturdays and have interest, in holistic medicine.

    • Provide all medical care and health management programs for Nine Lives shelter cats, including those in temporary foster care as well as FeLV+ and special needs cats in long-term foster homes. Identify, treat and prevent health problems thereby increasing adoptions and decreasing adoption returns

    • Contribute to the daily monitoring of the health of shelter animals, across two facilities

    • Perform high-volume, high-quality spay neuter for Nine Live cats prior to adoption

    • Perform other surgeries as needed, which may include dental cleanings/surgeries, enucleations, amputations, exploratory surgeries, etc

    • Maintain accurate and complete medical records (including treatments, examinations, test results, surgeries and outcomes) and other records required by local and state laws.

    • Maintain all established shelter medical standards, such as drug log/security, cleaning protocols, surgical procedures, medical protocols, etc.

    • Help supervise the medical staff including Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants

    • Provide guidance on procedures/protocols to be followed by kennel care assistants, volunteers and cleaners to ensure the welfare of cats in our facilities

    • Oversee the low-cost vaccination clinic

    • Maintain veterinary and DEA licenses through required continuing education


    EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:



    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent required

    • California State veterinary license and DEA license required

    • 3+ years of experience in and passion for shelter medicine

    • Experience in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and feline medical care preferred

The practice works by appointments but has a philosophy of “bring it in” if someone is concerned about their pet.
