GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Entry level work in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater and water collection and distribution. Accountable to and works under the direction of the superintendents and Public Works Director.


 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Takes readings and makes varied tests on new, primary and final sewage.

  • Pumps sludge at prescribed levels.

  • Removes grease deposits, debris and sand from wet wells.

  • Makes operational checks on equipment at wastewater plant, pump house and lift stations.

  • Takes samples of wastewater flow and assists in analysis of suspended settleables and total solids.

  • Prepares detailed records and reports in a timely manner.

  • Keeps equipment clean, lubricated and painted.

  • Performs general cleaning to keep reclaimed water facility neat and orderly.

  • Performs other related duties as directed or required by the Public Works Director.


 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • A CDL instructional permit may be required at the time of appointment and a CDL License may be required with six months of date of appointment (depending on job assignment and work location. Note: CDL – classified vehicles which are not driven on public roadways do not require CDL license.

 


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:



  • Normal hearing (with or without hearing aid);

The Maintenance Worker will fix and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings. This individual will paint, repair flooring, and work on plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning and heating systems. In the event of an emergency he/she may be called to support necessary tasks in association with that emergency. This is semi-skilled manual work involving repair and maintenance of the City’s water and sewer infrastructure. An employee in this class participates in water and force main valve maintenance, fire hydrant maintenance, sewer backups, repair of water services and water mains, water meter and water meter box replacement, sewer inspection and all duties related to water and sewer maintenance. Essential Functions:



  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.

  • Can successfully lead and supervise, and train lower skilled employees

  • Work safely around energized high voltage systems, with firm understanding of when to wear PPE to protect self and others.

Job Purpose Statement: Perform duties to provide a variety of general laborer and support services throughout District facilities.


 


Reporting Structure: Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.


 


Essential Job Functions:


1. Pump out tanks. Hose down, scrub, scrape and clean plant facilities, tanks and equipment.


2. Pump sludge, load and unload trucks, clean drains, ditches, and culverts.


3. Remove screenings, grit, and debris from headworks, as needed or assigned.


4. Mow and trim lawn, trim bushes, rake grass, leaves and trash, and perform


general building and grounds maintenance. Maintain equipment as necessary.


5. Prepare surfaces for painting, and paint equipment, piping, walls, panels and other items


throughout the facility, as assigned.


5. Remove snow from walkways and roadways. Spread salt on walkways and roadways. Maintain equipment as necessary.


6. Carry or hold materials, supplies or tools.


7. Replace light bulbs and diffusers as required.


8. Provide assistance to maintenance and/or operating personnel.


9. Collect and dispose of trash and other basic housekeeping tasks.


10. Wash and clean vehicles, tools and equipment.
