The successful candidate will have a passion for both oncology research and helping to improve the lives of cancer patients. This position will work closely with Research/Discovery and Clinical teams to help define translational strategy across several oncology drug development programs. They will be responsible for generating and refining biomarker strategies, exploring indication expansions, and combination studies to combat resistance mechanisms.

Responsibilities and Duties:
· Scientific ownership of specific Translational programs, including competitive landscape and emerging data
o Organization, summary, and dissemination of continuously updated information
o Work with PK, PD, toxicology, and biomarker teams to continuously track, analyze and summarize internal data
o Escalate insights to refine translational strategies
· Work closely with Research and Clinical teams through clinical-stage Translational programs
o Manage feedback loops between preclinical model work, clinical trial design, and clinical sample data to inform and advance program translational strategy
o Refine biomarker strategies based on both preclinical and clinical data
o Support Clinical Biomarker Lead in clinical sample collection plans, external collaborations, and biomarker database creation/management
o Clear communication and effective collaboration with scientific leads in Discovery and early Translational groups throughout lifecycle of the program
· Biomarker discovery and validation
o Utilize both publicly-available (DepMap, Cancer Therapeutics Response portal, etc) and private functional ‘omics resources
o Design and lead internal lab efforts including screens, hypothesis testing, and validation of biomarkers
o Explore novel technology platforms for biomarker discovery and precision medicine
· Identify, design, and manage external collaborations with both academic and industry partners
· Design, execute and analyze combination studies in preclinical models to inform clinical strategy
· Lead cross-functional teams including internal and/or external bioinformatics groups
· Mentoring and management of lab personnel
Qualifications:
· BS/MS degree with 10+ years of experience or a Ph.D. with 5-10 years of experience in cancer biology, translational research, or similar discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
· 3+ years in biotech or pharmaceutical industry
· Independent leadership of translational scientific research projects
· Project management in a cross-functional environment
· Experience organizing & disseminating information, presenting scientific findings
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work effectively both independently and within team/matrix environment
· Experience leading academic partnerships and managing external vendors/CROs
· Management experience, highly preferred.

Overview of the Role
PICI is running a portfolio of cutting-edge clinical trials, featuring innovative science-driven drug combinations and with a strong translational science component. It is our belief that by deeply interrogating the molecular phenotype of blood and tumor samples from patients in our studies we will be able to guide the development of our clinical programs and identify predictive biomarkers that can be used for patient stratification. To this end, the PICI Informatics team in collaboration with Translational Medicine has developed a database platform and associated tools that power the analysis of clinical and molecular data
The Translational Scientist will work in close collaboration with the Informatics team to analyze a variety of molecular data types including sequencing, flow cytometry and tissue imaging derived from patients enrolled in our studies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the underlying biology, while at the same time having enough familiarity with data analysis software to be able to drive the generation of initial reports and insights from the data.
This position would be ideal for someone with a strong biological background wanting to transition away from bench work and into data analysis. Mentorship will be provided by key members of the Informatics team to gain experience in data analysis, bioinformatics, and coding.

The Senior Scientist, Translational Genomics, will be able to leverage deep experience in both wet- and dry-lab environments in a relevant industry. This role requires someone highly efficient at time management and prioritization, with demonstrated ability to mentor and provide direction and guidance to more junior colleagues; providing feedback as appropriate, establishing timelines to accomplish complex tasks, and troubleshooting with the team to solve problems and generate effective solutions. The person in this role will be a member of highly collaborative, cross functional teams and will be able to communicate scientific plans, progress and results to other Epic departments and external parties, representing the assay development/product development team as needed.
ELEMENTS:
Education/Experience: Bachelors with >8 years, Masters with >6 years or A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, >7 years of relevant industry experience required. In addition, the following characteristics are important:
Communication Skill: Works effectively with both internal and external audiences to analyze, interpret, and summarize data both orally and in writing; ability to write and review detailed protocols and procedures and SOP's. May act as a spokesperson for Epic at external conferences. Prepare work for publication. Experienced providing direct feedback to team members; ability to coach and mentor more junior colleagues.
Interpersonal Skill: Works effectively both as an individual and part of a team; can manage relationships with external customers effectively. May interface with KOL's. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction as necessary.
Judgment: Provides strategic insight re: problem solving by offering novel approaches and incorporating new technologies, ability to design and lead (research, analyze data, interpret results, and provide summaries of same) projects and carry them to completion against a timeline

Overview of the Role
PICI is running a portfolio of cutting-edge clinical trials, featuring innovative science-driven drug combinations and with a strong translational science component. It is our belief that by deeply interrogating the molecular phenotype of blood and tumor samples from patients in our studies we will be able to guide the development of our clinical programs and identify predictive biomarkers that can be used for patient stratification. To this end, the PICI Informatics team in collaboration with Translational Medicine has developed a database platform and associated tools that power the analysis of clinical and molecular data
The Assoc Dir/Sr Translational Scientist will report directly to the VP of Translational Medicine and work in close collaboration with the Research Operations and Informatics teams for oversight and quality of a variety of molecular and cellular data types including sequencing, flow cytometry and tissue imaging derived from patient samples in PICI clinical trials. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the immune monitoring, molecular, cellular and bioanalytical assays for human cancer patients.
This position would be ideal for someone with experience in outsourcing a wide range of biomarker assays in clinical trials, strong attention to detail and ability to manage timelines.

The Assoc Dir/Sr Translational Scientist reports to the Vice President, Translational Medicine and Regulatory Affairs and is a key member of both the Translational and Clinical teams.
