POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a creative and dynamic Second/Third Grade Lead Teacher who demonstrates a desire to create engaging, differentiated curriculum and foster a caring and vibrant classroom community. The ideal candidate has experience with Lucy Calkins’ Readers/Writers Workshop, Responsive Classroom, an interest in curriculum design, and acknowledges the importance of social-emotional learning across all learning experiences.

This position is responsible for 3rd grade math and language arts instruction and works collaboratively with the 2nd grade lead teacher, as well as a shared assistant teacher, to plan and implement mixed-age science and social studies curriculum across the two classrooms.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum, Materials, Classroom Management

- Plan and implement third grade whole-group, small-group, and individual instruction in mathematics and language arts, following the Readers and Writers Workshop model.

- Collaborate with other 2nd/3rd grade lead teacher to plan and lead science and social studies in mixed-age groups

- Assess students regularly, examine assessment data, and refine lesson plans to differentiate instruction for each student while working collaboratively with Learning Support teachers

- Establish a classroom culture that creates community and embraces mistakes as learning opportunities by following Responsive Classroom, restorative justice, and best practices

Community-Building, Professional Development, and Other Responsibilities

- Consistently communicate student progress to families in order to involve parents/guardians in their child’s education

- Assist in the development of and participate in school functions, including but not limited to Back to School Night, admissions events, parent education events, and school-wide community-building events

- Chaperone at least one overnight camping trip

- Actively seek professional development

- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

- Bachelor's degree in related field; master’s degree preferred

- 3-5 years teaching experience in lower elementary school

- Demonstrated commitment to culturally inclusive teaching practices

- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds

- Experience with Responsive Classroom and/or Readers/Writers Workshop

- Must possess a collaborative, growth mindset intent on refining teaching practices as well as a desire to work with and learn from adults and students alike

Hanna Boys Center is a private nonprofit which provides a therapeutic, residential school program to underserved adolescent boys.   The Archbishop Hanna Teacher is responsible for planning instruction and/or making adaptations to the general curriculum to enable students to benefit from their education. The teacher is expected to communicate with parents and cottage staff in regard to student accommodations and modifications and be must be able to report to and participate on multidisciplinary evaluation teams.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

· Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.  

· Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with at risk-youth 

· Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. 

· School day duty hours are between 8:00 – 3:30. Until 4:30 one day weekly   

Qualifications: 

· B.A. or greater in content area. Experience preferred, but not required. Successful student teaching experience required. State teaching certificate, or ability to be certified by the start of the 2019-20 school year.   

· Experience working with at risk-youth. 

· Training or endorsements in Reading and Math highly desirable.  

· Ability to work supportively with other staff to achieve common goals. 

· Ability and knowledge to create and teach a sequential reading program.

REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a criminal background check and physical, including a drug and TB test. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to be covered under our insurance. We are a large preschool with 5 separate classrooms; infants through Transitional Kindergarten. We have approximately 20 teachers on staff and are looking to hire two Subs-On-Site. Agreed upon hours are guaranteed even if no teachers are absent. When not substituting in the classroom, SOS works in the office to assist with simple administrative tasks (or has the option to take the time off). We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable with changing diapers for infants and to playing with our preschoolers, though SOS is rarely lead teacher. This position would appeal to someone who likes to be on the floor with the kids and have less responsibility with running the classroom. Schedules: Monday through Friday 9:00-5:30 and Monday through Friday 7:30-4:00.

We are also looking for an afternoon preschool teacher that works with our older children. Schedule is Monday through Friday 1:30-5:30.

Requirements include 12 ECE/CHLD units.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide leadership to develop student academic acquisition and a strong school behavioral program.

  • Implements each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

  • Complete daily lesson plans per CDE certification standards.

  • Complete IEP documentation and participates professionally in student IEP meetings.

  • Complete quarterly progress reports per set due dates.

  • Facilitate supervision of classroom support staff; teaching assistant and 1:1 aides.

  • Supervise students across all school settings, including breaks and lunch, as assigned.

  • Responsible for all standardized academic and statewide assessments.

  • Ensure each student is working to complete the curriculum requirements of the contracting middle or high school district.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Mild-Moderate teaching credential with Autism cert, or Moderate-Severe teaching cred, or Internship Ed
