TITLE: System Administrator

OFFICE LOCATION: Sacramento

REPORTS TO: Director, Information Technology

POSITION SUMMARY:

CMA’s is currently seeing an experienced system administrator to join our team. The system administrator must have a deep and broad knowledge of computer software, hardware, and networks. They will be responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, and supporting our company’s computer systems. The System Administrator will design and oversee local area networks, wide area networks, and network segments. Daily tasks may include installing, upgrading and monitoring software and hardware. The System Administrator will maintain the essentials such as operating systems, business applications, security tools,web-servers, email, laptop, desktop PCs and cloud based systems.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and cloud systems

  • Ensure the design of the system allows all components to work properly together + Make recommendations for future upgrades

  • Maintain network and system security

  • Troubleshoot problems reported by users and analyze and isolate issues + Monitor networks to ensure security

  • Evaluate and modify the system’s performance

  • Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers

  • Maintain the integrity of the network, server deployment, and security

  • Ensure network connectivity throughout a company’s IT infrastructure is on par with technical considerations

  • Design and deploy networks; Maintain network servers such as file servers, and VPN gateways, and cloud systems.

  • Perform network address assignment

  • Assign routing protocols and routing table configuration

  • Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services

  • Administer servers, laptop and desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, company mobile phones, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches

  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, Technology, degree or relevant experience + Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role

  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management

  • Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery

  • Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other languages

  • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms

  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude

  • Excellent communication skills

SUPERVISION:

Works under guidance of the Director, Information Technology

EQUIPMENT OPERATION:

Position requires operation of normal office equipment, computer, printers, photocopier, fax machines, multi-line phone, mobile communications tools, team and project management applications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work extended hours and, on the weekends, as events and deadlines dictate. Some travel required.

* Monitor and maintain system servers and operating system for Oracle Exa Platforms (Exadata, Exalogic, Exalytics).
* Monitor system performance and resource utilization using provided tools and report potential issues.
* Perform Oracle Linux upgrades and patching.
* Create and manage Oracle Virtual Machines.
* Support shift work to maintain 24/7 coverage of duties.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

* Must have at least three or more years' experience in Linux administration

  • Provide Tier III support for complex DoD networked systems  

  • Perform administration duties for networking hardware including routers, switches, hubs, gateways, access points, network interface cards, networking cables, network bridges, modems, ISDN adapters, firewalls and related network hardware throughout the enterprise that consists of nearly 100 sites and approximately 6,000 full time and 15,000 part time end users

  • Researches and evaluates new ideas and processes to improve network and system performance. Analyzes cross-domain problem sets, conducts root cause analysis and resolves problems.

  • 5 or more years of related experience desired

Certifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience with Windows and Linux (UNIX) server administration including Active Directory, Domain Name Services and DHCP.

  • Expertise in administration of IIS (Internet Information Server) and Apache Web Servers including installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrade and Web Application installation.

  • Knowledge of computer diagnostics and installation, to include hardware/software troubleshooting and networking

  • Demonstrated experience working with infrastructure related components such as running network cables, installing servers in equipment racks.

  • Familiarity with the operation and configuration of networking protocols, network interface card installation, switches, routers and similar components.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and offer effective solutions under tight deadlines

  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.

  • Ability to work after hours support on a rotating schedule.
