We teach all ages, levels and abilities to swim aged 6 months and up. Applicants that are hired in Spring are expected to be available for work in the Summer and Fall to maintain consistency in instructors from March to October. (You must be able to work in the Summer too).

Hours avail to teach: Tues/Thurs 2-6pm and Saturdays 9 -1 (sometimes 2) pm at Aptos location. Lifeguarding jobs are available with us throughout the County in the Spring, Summer and early Fall and are at private locations that are mostly Sat and Sun from 2-5pm. Jobs are assigned as they come up. Travel stipends are paid to travel to each location as well and you will be paid a minimum of 2 hours for any guarding job.

Pay starts at $14/hr while training, goes up to $15/hr once you are able to take on your own classes, and then is increased based on job performance, reliability and consistency. Those with experience teaching, come with good/great references and also hold a current LGT cert, will start at $15/hr (or more) as we would assume you would take on your own classes sooner and would be raised based on job performance, reliability and consistency.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.

  2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.

  3. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.

  4. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.

  5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.

  6. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.

  7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.

  8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.

  9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.

  10. Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.

  11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.

  12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.

  13. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.


Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimming instructor required. Swimming experience preferred.


Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended.

Swim Instructors at British Swim School (location) teach lessons to children and adults to become safe and happy swimmers, regardless of age or ability. Adherence to British Swim School teaching curriculum ensures that each student in our program learns water survival skills and then progresses to propulsion and stroke development in a fun and gentle environment. If you don't have the aquatic experience, but are great with kids, comfortable in the water and passionate about teaching them, we will train you!!!


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Enthusiastic, assertive personality with strong relationship and customer service skills.

  • Effectively communicate with customers and employees, bi-lingual is a plus.

  • Disciplined to follow schedules and enforce safety procedures as well as follow policies, teaching methods and procedures of British Swim School.

  • Able to demonstrate swim strokes appropriately.


Roles and Responsibilities



  • Reports to and communicates directly with Aquatics Director or Manager.

  • Be correctly dressed in British Swim School uniform and prepared pool-side at least 15 minutes before the start of your first lesson.

  • Conduct classes in a fun and gentle environment, following current teaching methods, policies and safety and emergency procedures as detailed in the British Swim School teacher training manual and as directed by the Aquatics Director.

  • Answer all customer questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner and resolve complaints and issues when necessary.

  • Attend staff meetings and ongoing training/coaching as requested by Aquatics Director or Manager.

  • Inform the Deck Ambassador of any needs or maintenance issues that need addressing.

  • Work a flexible schedule that may include holidays and weekends as required by business needs and as requested by management.

  • Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and stand in the water for up to 5 consecutive hours.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatics Director or Franchise Business Owner.


Qualifications



  • Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid (current preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).

    We are looking for swim instructors and lifeguards for our premier swim school in Brooklyn, New York. We offer competitive salaries, career advancement opportunities in the aquatics field and a great work environment. We are looking for EXPERIENCED swim instructors and lifeguards for Saturdays/Sunday to work 9 -4 in Park Slope Brooklyn and or to work on Sundays 9:00 am to 4 pm in Brooklyn (on Flatbush Ave)  We teach swimming on the weekends and are open year-round (12 months). This is a part-time position for the weekends.


    You must have experience teaching swimming in a class setting or with a swim program to be a swim instructor. We will be interviewing this Sunday.


    Must have current Lifeguard certifications and CPR to apply for Lifeguard certification.
