 We are a manufacturing and distribution company that specializes in aluminum and stainless steel railing products for the building industry. We are looking to hire a welder/fabricator for long-term employment.


Overview


This position is responsible for welding aluminum (90%) and steel (10%) in our manufacturing operation. The ideal candidate will have experience with fabrication, jig construction, and mechanical/structural design. The job will also require working in other roles at our facility including machine operation, assembly, site visits, and material delivery/pick up. The position requires the operation of welding equipment, power tools, forklifts, and trucks.


Work Hours: Monday – Friday. Day shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM) or swing shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM).


Major Duties and Responsibilities



  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment using welders, cutters, jigs and measuring tools

  • Help design and build equipment for manufacturing including racks, carts, jigs, go/no-go gauges, etc.

  • Assembly and fabrication of aluminum products for the commercial and residential building industries

  • Help maintain welding equipment and recommend improvements for the welding facility

  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors

  • Follow and enforce safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, safety shoes, and other PPE as required

  • Weld components in flat and vertical positions

  • Maintain supply levels in welding facility

  • Cutting and drilling extrusions for products

  • Inspect materials for quality

  • Using forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, and scissor lifts


Job Requirements



  • Read and interpret project plans, shop drawings, and other written instructions and diagrams

  • Perform MIG, TIG, gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and other types of welding based on project needs

  • High school diploma/GED preferred

  • 2+ years’ experience operating as a commercial welder

  • A valid certificate in welding from an accredited institution is preferred

  • Eventually become certified with our in-house certification standards

Qualifications 



  • 5-7+ years of progressively responsible work experience in building or engineering system design and/or engineering system layout is required. 

  • 3+ years of experience using Revit required as well as a demonstrated capability using AutoCAD 2D drafting and system layout. Familiarity with Navisworks for managing large assemblies. Familiarity with SolidWorks 3D modelling is a plus

  • Ability to develop practical designs from high level concepts with generalized input from other technical staff.

  • Strong demonstrated Revit based large assembly creation and drafting skills, understand and apply accepted drafting standards as well as demonstrated competence in site installation drawing creation.

  • Demonstrated competence in the design and detailing of structural and mechanical parts, mechanical assemblies, weldments, and industrial structures.  The following technical skills are desired:

  • Strong drafting skills with high attention to detail and accuracy required.

  • Use of ASME Y14.1 and/or Mil-Std-100 engineering drawing practices.

  • AWS welding symbols.

  • Detailed material callouts

  • Full familiarity with standardized document control processes.  Experience with a Product Data Management system desired.

  • Experience with generation and maintenance of Bills of Material.

  • Ability to communicate technical issues to colleagues, contractors and customers.

Job Qualifications:

  • Have direct experience with the drawing development process for U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial ships and vessels. Individual should be knowledgeable in NAVSEA, American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS), and Coast Guard standards and specifications.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD to develop detailed structural drawings from initiation to approval, i.e., foundations and arrangement drawings.

  • Perform technical evaluations for welds, and provide acceptable substitutes for materials, based on engineering evaluation of material properties, environmental considerations, and service conditions.

  • Perform shipchecks to capture current conditions and other data points for technical deliverable development.

  • Work on multidisciplinary teams to accomplish a specific task.

  • Review/Develop engineering/design changes with the appropriate corrective actions.

  • Must be able to work independently, make designs decisions, and provide guidance.

Preferred Qualifications: 



  • Associates Degree

  • Knowledge of Finite Elements Analysis (FEA)

  • CAD Certifications

  • Team Leadership experience for design teams

  • Track development statuses for Hull/Structure, Arrangements, and Outfitting drawings including but not limited to, deck and bulkhead mods, compartment and access mods, temporary access, equipment and machinery foundations, and habitability mods. 

  • Experience with weld requirements.

Travel Requirements


  • Must be willing to travel CONUS/OCONUS up to 15% of time worked.
