As a Catering Captain, you will be the front line of the operation, running white-glove and drop-off catering services hands-on with our corporate clients. There are no prior skills or experience required – if you have the right attitude and capability to learn, we will provide all the training you need to succeed in this role!

A bit more about this role: While hours may vary, Captains typically work 3-5 hour shifts between 8:30am-3pm (though we do also occasionally have morning/evening shifts for breakfast/dinner). You must have a passion for providing outstanding customer service, or a desire to learn more about the hospitality industry. Many Caviar clients form such a strong bond with Captains that they specifically request their favorite Captains to serve their meals.

As a Captain, your responsibilities will include:


  • Pick up pre-scheduled healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners from restaurants and deliver them to local companies.

  • Work with a team of Catering Captains to beautifully present meals that wow our clients.

  • Provide client feedback using our proprietary app.

  • Maintain professionalism while interacting with clients and restaurant partners.

  • Complete maintenance and operational tasks as assigned by the Hub Manager.

Requirements


  • Be 18 years old or older.

  • Be willing to obtain a food handler card.

  • Be available for at least two lunch shifts from Monday to Friday.

  • Have an iPhone or Android phone.

  • Have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. (Not a requirement in NYC.)

  • Own your own vehicle. (Not a requirement in NYC.)

  • The Catering Coordinator is responsible for working as a member of a cohesive operations team supporting the Director of Catering and sales team, as well as the General Manager to enable perfect event execution. This individual functions as a support to the Event Manager and Captains, as well as sometimes acting as a junior sales specialist when business levels are high. The Catering Manager maintains a positive, “win-win” attitude, always working to improve the execution and timeliness of their team.

  • Ensuring all event information in CaterXpert from the sales team is up to date and fully detailed prior to event/deadlines.

  • Review event floorplans, day of supervisor packets, pack lists and rental equipment to ensure all information is current and correctly distributed.

  • Responsible for communicating SRCG procedures, standards and expectations to all event staff when on-site. They will be responsible for communicating all pertinent event information to the culinary and operations teams and for completing the day of supervisor packet for use on site.

  • Assisting in the setup and execution of events

  • Ensure that event rentals have scheduled deliveries and pickups that are convenient for specialist or venue manage

  • Maintain calendar of events through Outlook and attend all necessary event meetings and conference calls.

  • Communicate with sales, culinary and booking staff, as needed, to ensure understanding of menus and client need

  • Responsible for the collection and submission of all payments and deposits as it relates to contracted events. They are responsible for ensuring that these payments are on time and responsible for reviewing the weekly AR report and correcting any discrepancies and/or collecting any late payments.

  • Responsible for nimble trouble shooting and determining the best judgment calls when a quick decision needs to be made.

  • Managing a staff, holding them accountable for their work and disciplining as needed.

  • Follow up with photographers post event to request event photos

  • Act as first point of contact for general leads and gather as much detailed information as needed

  • Keep accurate log of event inquiries and distribute to specialists as needed

  • Process event closeouts on following day of each event

  • Send out nightly event reminders to internal staff

Bette's Oceanview Diner in Berkeley is seeking a Head Chef and Kitchen Manager for Bette's To Go, our take away business. We are a high volume restaurant and deli serving high-end food in a casual setting since 1982. We are looking for a leader with significant management and culinary experience who loves to cook quality, fresh, seasonal, simple food.

 

Job Description:

The Head Chef & Kitchen Manager is responsible for the good food, staff performance, cleanliness and efficiency of the Bette's To Go kitchen, which serves 600+ take away meals a day. They are the primary person responsible for preparing all food for lunch service (salads, special sandwiches, pizza dough, frittata, etc.), with assistance from other kitchen employees.

They will maintain our standards of fast and friendly service, while working closely with manager of front of house around food handling, food presentation, as well as personnel and operational issues. They will also coordinate food usage and purchasing with Diner Kitchen Manager. Promoting a spirit of teamwork and cooperation among staff is a priority.

Responsibilities:

Food

- Makes sure that staff follows recipes and approved methods so that food is consistent in appearance and taste

- Write weekly menu of special sandwiches, salads, soups and pizza

- Improve and update recipes as needed

- Create new, seasonal specials

- Determine prep list for the staff every morning - Inventory food and order additional supplies while controlling food costs

Personnel

- Hire, orient, train and supervise kitchen staff in preparation of all food

- Coordinate all kitchen tasks

- Monitor kitchen cleanliness, food rotation, storage and sanitation

- Write weekly schedule - Create a positive, supportive, creative & professional work environment through clear communication

Service

- Make sure all stations are properly stocked, set up and ready for lunch service

- Check display case at regular intervals to ensure presentation

- Monitor service flow, fill in during breaks and provide back up when necessary during busy periods

- Work closely with To Go Manager to coordinate staff needs, deal with performance issues, insure smooth customer flow and good service

Additional skills

- Familiarity with Microsoft Office for menus and scheduling

- Spanish language a plus

 

Salary and Benefits:

This is a salaried position. Starting salary range $55-65,000 (commensurate with experience)

The Head Chef position is full-time (5 days/week), with day shifts only. At least one weekend day required. Shift hours are Monday-Friday 6:30 AM-2:30 PM and Saturday/Sunday 7:30 AM-3:30 PM. Must be available to stay later if/when necessary.

Mama Lamees has developed a solid following in the Bay Area through her work with La Cocina, where she built her catering business from the ground up.   • Perform many basic tasks of food preparation and organization in the kitchen.


  • Effectively communicate with other members of the staff.


  • Gracefully receive constructive criticism as well as effectively carry out orders.


  • Remain calm while multi-tasking.


  • Arrive on time, with clean and appropriate attire.


  • Able to follow direction


  • Assist in preparation of all menu items


  • Exceptional time management


  • Able to keep an organized station


  • Flexibility to work different stations within the business


  • Excellent knife skills


  • Well spoken and warm (with team and customers)


  • Maintain a safe working environment by observing proper food handling and food safety guidelines.


  • Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained.


  • A self starter with a good eye for detail.


Must have and be able to do all of the following:

• At least 18 years of age.

• Two or more years of kitchen experience.

• Good communication skills.


  • Sufficient math skills to work with recipes, ingredients, and figuring portion size.


  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds.


  • Able to stand for long periods of time.


  • Flexible schedule and available for nights, weekends and holidays.


• Valid food handlers card.
