About MoveOn

MoveOn is a diverse and vibrant community of millions of people working together to create progressive change in America. We are an innovative campaigning organization that supports people throughout the country to take action through driving impactful campaigns that influence the behavior of people and institutions, the outcomes of elections, and expand the realities of what’s possible. We organize to challenge entrenched power, while pursuing economic, racial, and social justice and a vision of a country in which everyone can thrive.MoveOn has a particularly important role to play in the Trump era.  In service of that mission, in 2020, and beyond, MoveOn will drive impactful, movement-connected, multichannel, nimble campaigns aimed at impact. We are hiring a passionate problem solver who will work broadly across many projects with campaign staff to run innovative campaigns using top-of-the-line political technology, digital campaigning tools and data analysis. This role will involve helping staff use tools, administering tools, customizing tools, and analyzing data generated by these tools. Do you love working at the intersection of progressive organizing and technology? Join our team! This role is open to candidates at all levels.

About MoveOn Systems

MoveOn’s millions of members generate significant website and digital tool traffic that create interesting scaling problems to solve. We have terabytes of data that drive ambitious analytics, fundraising, and engagement programs. At MoveOn, making decisions with data is a core part of how all work gets done. Like many nonprofit tech teams, we're a small, scrappy team, wear many hats, and work across the software stack.

While we often split up who is working on which projects, everyone on the team works on all parts of our systems. We have ~10 production systems—and two systems running at significant scale—getting thousands of requests per minute during spikes of member energy. We believe in choosing the best language, platform, and tool for the job and are not language zealots, but we also recognize the switching cost of straddling too many languages.

We do a lot of work in Python and Javascript and deploy most systems to AWS () but believe good programmers don’t need to come in with an exact match of experience and can learn our systems and software stacks. We are deeply collaborative and spend lots of time pair-programming over Zoom video. We have a “no stupid questions” policy and encourage egoless collaboration. We build and maintain infrastructure that powers the organization and amplifies the work of the analytics and mobile teams. We’ve created software management processes based on Agile that let us work in a flexible, all-remote environment and empower us to embed with organizers and work on tight political deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Work across many projects with campaign staff to run innovative campaigns using top-of-the-line political technology, digital campaigning tools and data analysis

  • Quickly get up to speed and develop mastery in the online campaigning platform ActionKit; candidate will have a supported onboarding process and learning plan that includes ActionKit

  • Work side by side with MoveOn team members on complex digital organizing tasks like creating targeted emails, surveys, donation forms, and live event recruitment pages

  • Effectively triage and manage a list of technical support tasks to ensure that MoveOn staff's technical needs are met

  • Help MoveOn team members edit HTML on campaign webpages

  • Write SQL and use data analysis tools to support team members with campaign reporting

  • Train MoveOn team members on complex workflows that use online campaigning tools

  • Contribute your ideas to organizational strategy discussions

  • Contribute your ideas to tech team discussions to enhance and improve our tools and tactics

Required skills and experience:

  • Excellent project management skills; ability to organize, manage, and communicate clearly about a list of 30+ tasks at a time

  • Excellent process management skills: ability to understand complex organizational systems and optimize processes that intersect with tech.

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in a tech or tech-adjacent role.

  • Determined, thorough, and a relentless finisher -- able to reliably drive tasks and projects through to completion

  • Knowledge of SQL in a relational database like MySQL or PostgreSQL, or a desire to quickly learn

  • Experience editing HTML and CSS, or a desire to quickly learn

  • Comfortable with or willing to learn to use a linux command line interface

  • A strong interest in learning and developing expertise in new technical tools, frameworks, and software

  • Able to fluently communicate with both technical and nontechnical staff

  • Curious, and a fearless learner and problem solver

  • Ability to be effective in an organization whose team members all work remotely

  • Ability to effectively and rapidly respond to urgent support requests

Location: Position may be based anywhere in the continental United States.

About Triplebyte
Triplebyte helps companies find and hire great technical talent. For any company building software, this is crucial for success. A recent survey of top C-Level Executives, across multiple industries, showed that software, R&D and recruiting technical talent are the top areas they are planning increased investment and budget over the next 5 years. Companies like Apple, Dropbox and American Express trust Triplebyte’s online technical assessment to identify the best engineers for their open roles and reduce the time and effort it takes to hire them.

We just raised a $35 million Series B and our team of 40 will double in size during 2019. Now is a great time to join as we're on an exciting growth trajectory. You will have lots of opportunity for taking on responsibility and developing new skills quickly.

We have built Machine Learning models that predict the likelihood of an engineer getting an offer from a particular company. Interviewing and assessing engineering talent tends to be noisy, but our technical assessment has proven to be good enough to extract meaningful signals. We collect data on interview results and in-house evaluations, which gives us a unique dataset to play with. We've used that data to deliver a 40% conversion rate on our candidates at interview to offer, compared to the industry standard 20%.

Our mission is to create a scientific method for identifying great talent and intelligently route it to the best place, streamlining and speeding up the recruitment process, while removing human biases that can hold back some candidates.

We're an experienced team, the founders have each built and sold companies before. Ammon and Guillaume founded Socialcam (acquired by Autodesk for $60 million) and Harj was the first partner hired at Y Combinator since its founding.

Building the best product
We are rapidly growing our engineering team, we are looking for generalist, full-stack, frontend, backend, machine learning, and dev-ops engineers! The Triplebyte engineering team is still rather small, only 8 people. We all went through the Triplebyte process : )

We move fast, release new features daily and iterate quickly. Triplebyte is growing very quickly and the engineering team is fully dedicated to supporting that growth, in any way we can.

We are a generalist engineering team, we work on anything that helps the company or other teams grow. We cycle through backend, full-stack and frontend work based on the most critical needs. All of us are encouraged to work on all those parts.

Our frontend is mostly in React/Redux.
Our backend is in Ruby on Rails, Postgres and Redis. (We also use python with Tensorflow for all our data science work)

It doesn't seem like it, but we have built a LOT of software. We are a truly full-stack company and we are building a process that needs to be perfect ends to ends. We have software for engineers, for interviewers, for writers, for companies, for us, etc..If that's any indication of scale, we crossed recently the 200 tables in our Postgres database : )

Join us and help us build the best product! We value initiative, productivity, and ownership.

Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary and stock options package
Open vacation policy
Employer paid health, vision and dental insurance
401(k) plan with matching
Pre-tax commuter benefits
Daily catered lunches

Our Mission
We believe strongly in building a truly meritocratic, unbiased process for finding great talent. Even the best technology companies today still use where people went to college as a proxy for intelligence and ability. We're building a process that looks only at ability, not credentials, so we can have a future where everyone can focus on just learning and being good at what they do, not how they look on paper.

Every aspect of running a company has been improved over the last decade, except hiring. Most decisions are still made using amorphous terms like "gut feel" or "culture fit". They should be made using crisp data. Only a company specializing on this problem, using data collected from the hiring process at hundreds of companies, can solve it. That's the company we're building. Our mission is creating a scientific method for identifying great talent and intelligently routing it to the best place. Starting with software engineers.

Work Location:

  • Multiple Locations (Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle)

  • Fully Remote

Benefits:

  • Health insurance

  • Dental insurance

  • Vision insurance

  • Retirement plan

  • Paid time off

  • Flexible schedule

Company Description

Hiring is hard. It’s something our founders understand well. Before starting Triplebyte, Harj was the first partner at Y Combinator, where young companies often struggle to hire their first employees. Guillaume and Ammon were working on Socialcam (later acquired by Autodesk in 2012 for $60M), where they also experienced firsthand the challenges of hiring.

Triplebyte was founded on the belief that the current technical hiring process doesn’t do enough to help engineers show their strengths. Our founders started Triplebyte to help engineers find great jobs by assessing their abilities without relying on the prestige of their resume credentials.
