Job Description

Join an innovative and fast-paced team building software that allows litigation professionals to filter millions of documents down to those most important to their case using advanced techniques and artificial intelligence. From your seat in Downtown Chicago, you’ll be developing technology that addresses complex challenges such as data visualization, machine learning, distributed systems, large databases, and large-scale data processing.

We code primarily in C#, React, and Java. If you don’t know it “all,” you won’t be alone! We are seeking full-stack generalists that can bring experience and diverse knowledge to our team, rather than hyper-focused specialists. Our hiring staff are not focused on playing “technology experience bingo” but want to find the best software engineers.

As far as the development process itself, we don’t want to just check the boxes to be able to say that we have the most (or even the snazziest) features. Rather, we are thoughtful about our design and focused on ensuring that our clients can use software that is both useful and useable. You won’t be buried in a dark corner – you’ll have the opportunity to actively shape the software, while working as an integral part of a dynamic team of developers who are focused on writing great code, learning every day, and having a lot of fun.

To be successful, you should be able to contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle including specification, design, implementation, and maintenance. You must be willing to learn the discovery industry and quickly integrate new technologies into your repertoire.

If you think you’d be the right fit for our team, we’d love to hear from you.

Must-haves:

  • Experience with a compiled language such as C#, Java, Go, Rust, or C++

  • Experience with React

  • Instinctive understanding of algorithms and fundamental computer science concepts

  • Driven to build modern systems that emphasize user experience and aesthetics.

  • An eagerness to learn, explore, and introduce new technologies

  • Must be able to work on-site in Downtown Chicago

  • Must have authorization to work in the United States

“Bonus points”:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent coursework

  • Experience in a scripting language (Python, Ruby, Perl, etc.)

  • Experience with containerization and container orchestration frameworks

  • Good writing and communication skills

  • Understanding of Linux and cloud technologies

Benefits:

  • Company-contributed health insurance

  • Fifteen vacation days

  • Work in the heart of Chicago near a wide array of amenities and public transit

  • Take advantage of mentoring, career development, and other learning opportunities

  • Casual work environment

  • Select your hardware and platform

Company Description

Our eDiscovery platform is used by legal service providers and agencies, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and financial institutions in more than 40 countries across five continents. Through the platform, users are empowered to use advanced techniques and artificial intelligence to filter millions of documents down to those most important to their litigation.

We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.

This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training.

Job Description

Company Industry: Insurance

Opportunity: The Mom Project is helping to source candidates for the above client who is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Insurance Platform Company
Commitment Level:  40  hours per week, on-site

The Mom Project is excited to partner with our client, an insurance tech firm based in San Francisco!

**The salary range for this role is $140,000-$170,000 and will commensurate with experience**

Insurance... sounds slow, old-fashioned, and unexciting. Exactly. Insurance is broken, and it's failing fast-moving, innovative startups.

Our client is a new, technology-first insurance company, backed with $70M in funding from world-class investors. Like Stripe for payments or Brex for credit cards, this company is creating the go-to business insurance for startups.

They're doing this by making insurance fast, responsive, and focused on the customer - startup founders. Instead of printed PDF applications and week-long waits, our client is building new technology to solve real problems, writing policies that actually cover relevant startup scenarios, and designing simple experiences in an otherwise frustrating industry.

The Job:

Our client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join their Insurance Platform team. The Insurance Platform team builds APIs that underwrite and issue insurance policies. The team also configures and launches all of the company's insurance policies. You will have the opportunity to quickly contribute critical code and help to shape fundamental aspects of their codebase and engineering culture.

You will:

Design, build, and maintain APIs, distributed systems, and services
Help contribute to and scale their services-oriented architecture efforts
Work on the core infrastructure for the Insurance platform, including launching and managing insurance programs
Work closely with internal company users to help them develop user-facing interfaces
Collaborate with team members on priorities and technical specifications

You may be a good fit for the role if you:

Have 5+ years of development experience
Have experience building distributed systems and APIs as a product or platform
Are proficient using Ruby
Have experience in Postgres or another transactional, relational database system, as well as ability to design schemas.
Have exceptional communication skills. You can effectively talk (and listen) to engineers, designers, product managers, executives, and other stakeholders.
Have experience with software engineering best practices such as TDD, SOLID, code reviews, A/B testing, etc.
Have experience with event-based systems, message queues, immutable database design

Other Tools We Use:

TypeScript, Vue.js, Python
Terraform, Consul, Nomad
Serverless Framework, Docker
AWS EventBridge, SNS, SQS, Lambda

Our client is proudly an equal opportunity employer and celebrates the diversity of its growing team.
