The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is comprised of a dedicated team of approximately 150 staff working collaboratively to provide close to 50 million pounds of food to over 210,000 people in the Bay Area – a region where 1 in 4 people are at risk of hunger. We are currently looking for a SFP Temporary Distribution Assistant to help provide support to the Programs department. The Distribution Assistant issues food boxes to participants during monthly Supplemental Food Program (SFP) distributions. This program provides supplemental groceries to eligible seniors.

9am to 1:00pm (possibly until 2:30pm) for 2 to 5 days a week


  • Issue food boxes to participants at distributions.

  • Provide excellent customer service to program participants.

  • Set up, maintain, and break down boxes in distribution area

  • Use material handling equipment (hand trucks, hand pallet jacks, etc.) in a safe manner to perform duties.

  • Assist dissatisfied participants.

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Basic arithmetic to maintain accurate transactions.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to work and interact well with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment.

  • Ability to repetitively lift food boxes ranging from 30 lbs. to 40 lbs. as needed during distribution hours ranging from 4 hours to 7 hours.

The Material Handler position is responsible for warehouse duties including: picking and packing of various sized products and packages by hand using RF scanning technology. The standard shift begins at 9am and follows a 4 10 schedule; meaning you will work four 10-hour shifts during a given week. Hours of operation are typically Monday Friday.

Material Handler starting compensation begins at $15.50 -17.00, depending on experience, with scheduled incremental pay increases of an additional $2.00-3.00 total per hour more by your   18-month anniversary date. We believe in paying our team members competitively!

The Supply Chain Operations Coordinator is an entry level position.  The position will support our core fresh produce procurement functions including contracting, food safety, pricing, and quality management efforts. General responsibilities will vary based on need and may include contract administration, preparation of reports and correspondence, statistical analysis and data tracking.
