Research Associate – Molecular Biology   

Company: Root is developing fully automated, in-field, DNA-based sensors for detection of airborne pathogens. The technology provides the missing pathogen-presence corner of the disease triangle and enables farmers to spray pesticides only when necessary.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to

· Develop and optimize assays for detection and quantification of important airborne agricultural pathogens 

· Drive continuous improvement in methodology, processes, and formats through own expertise and experience 

· Be responsible for the management of target projects 

· Communicate and interact with interdisciplinary project teams 

· Participate in meetings 

· Perform other related responsibilities as necessary 

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in mycology, microbiology, virology or other natural science with laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques like PCR 

· Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to adapt to the atmosphere of a dynamic startup 

· Creative and flexible thinking, open-minded, and willing to challenge the status quo

Fellowship details:


  • Fellows may choose a licensed or non-licensed teaching pathway. If licensed, they will earn their license from a university partner over the course of 4-14 months

  • EnCorps will place you in a local partner school for 1 semester where you will spend 2-5 hours per week as a volunteer Guest Teacher

  • Fellows train online/on-demand and at 3 in-person cohort events each year by participating in enhanced skills preparation workshops

  • Fellows receive extensive support and mentoring from the EnCorps staff, their cohort, and EnCorps’ network of schools

  • With the help of EnCorps, you will develop your unique timeline to become a paid teacher, in as little as 9 months, or 3 years depending on your personal goals.

This is advanced level technical and managerial work, supervising both design and construction engineers on a Design Build (DB) of highway and bridges construction project. Potential candidates will function as a manager over areas of structure and roadway construction inspection, materials sampling, inspection, testing, and review of design parameters. Candidate must have the ability to develop quality assurance program and implementation. This position will involve a wide range of decision making and use of Engineering judgment and will include providing work direction to others. Potential candidate will report to a senior project manager.


 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction. Considerable knowledge of design of highway and bridge construction, including geometry, alignment, cross sections etc., and skills in the use of office equipment such computers and applicable software such as eBuilder. Ability to read, interpret and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures; ability to take notes and prepare or review reports; good communicative ability; and supervisory ability to coordinate the activities of lower level employees and instruct them in proper work methods.


 


Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: The PQAM shall be a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia and have at least ten (10) years of recent experience in the design or quality management of major urban freeway projects. Graduation from a university with a degree in civil engineering or from a four-year college with a degree in civil engineering technology and ten years of progressive transportation management technical experience will be preferred. With minimum supervision, responsible for implementing initial quality plans on products and programs. Provides support and direction in the implementation and administration of quality systems. Analyzes the effectiveness of the quality system and coordinates quality related issues with customers, suppliers, and other functional disciplines.


 Essential Duties and Responsibilities


·         Develop and establish quality systems and procedures, inspection plans, quality performance trends, statistical plans and continuous improvement initiatives specific to assigned customers and/or product.


·         Perform Customer Purchase Order/Contract Reviews to identify quality requirements for impact into the manufacturing system. Ensure that all documentation, Certification/Inspection Reports, making, packaging, source inspection and applicable Supplier Source Release are identified and acceptable.


·         Interface and/or work closely with Quality Assurance, Inspection, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Shipping personnel on procedural issues involving design, methods, tooling, cost and other areas involved in the control of product quality.


·         Participate in the development and implementation of quality related policies and procedures based on corporate and government/customer requirements, as well as in conjunction with AS9100 requirements.


·         Participate in Material Review Board activities, failure analysis and corrective action investigations, and assist in the timely dispositioning and processing of nonconforming material.


·         Act as liaison for the company in coordinating and resolving customer and supplier complaints and concerns, relative to quality performance, investigations, system audits and corrective actions.


·         Prepare periodic and special reports on quality statistics and other related quality issues on assigned program(s) or product area(s).


·         Review manufacturing planning (work order), methods and process specifications as it relates to assuring product quality.


·         Perform internal audits/surveys, where applicable, to assure compliance to specific quality/customer requirements. Audit and validate Statistical Process Control data and procedures for assigned program(s) or product area(s). 


Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Industrial Engineering or Quality Assurance


Minimum 3 years’ experience. AS9100 knowledge required


Preferred


Five years’ experience in Product/Manufacturing and Quality Engineering 


Aerospace industry experience


Ability to read and interpret blueprint specifications. Excellent written and communication skills


Demonstrated proficiency in root cause and corrective action analysis


IDEAL CANDIDATE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads & Conducts Annual Recertification w/ Independent QM Organizations

  • Assist/direct procedures, requirements, corrective actions and process problem analysis, as well as administer NCM, preventative/corrective action, MRB and QMS procedures/requirements.

  • Responsible for ensuring the policies, procedures, desk guides, and forms stored on the Proven Process Website are up to date and being complied with by employees.

  • Administrate root-cause investigation & analysis, implement corrective, preventative action process and approval, then determine system improvements and implement change(s)

  • Prepares and completes action plans tied directly to continuous improvement initiatives driving cost and quality improvements throughout the organization

  • May be accountable for quality assurance staff for coaching, planning, recruiting, training, and disciplining employees

  • Meets quality assurance financial objectives through the use of Key Process Indicator weekly reporting tied to company KPI’s (scrap, rework, yields, customer returns etc.).

  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes through documenting evidence, determining operational and performance qualification, and writing and updating quality assurance procedures.

  • Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations

  • Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

Oversee Program Quality responsibilities as directed by the QA Manager in support of compliance,   contract, customer, and/or regulatory requirements



  • Develop and maintains the Quality Procedures

  • Coordinates / conducts internal audits

  • Coordinates and interfaces with the QA Director to ensure management objective are addressed and records are maintained

  • Prepare and/or revise procedures/instructions to implement the Quality System

  • Verify implementation of quality by inspection, surveillance and audit

  • Identify problems and non-conformances and recommend corrective and preventive actions including verification of the effectiveness of such actions

  • Coordinate and interface with top management and manufacturing supervisors of significant quality problems that could affect company reputation and profitability. 

  • Works with Engineering and Manufacturing to implement personnel training, process changes or design changes needed to improve product quality

  • Other duties may be assigned


 


Required Skills:



  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • 10+ years in relevant work field

  • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.  Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.
