At BATC, we believe a tutor's academic expertise is just as important as his or her ability to effectively convey the subject matter to students of all levels and backgrounds. We are seeking a personable, focused and enthusiastic individual to tutor all levels of math at our center in Berkeley. 

We have one part-time position available (12-18 hrs/wk). This position requires availability on some combination of shifts Monday through Thursday, 3:30-10:00 pm and Saturday, 10:00 am-4:30 pm during the school year. 

We strongly prefer a tutor with availability on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Qualifications

Experience tutoring physics is highly desirable. Experience with standardized test prep is also highly desirable. Tutors must be able to take initiative and work independently. At the same time, we expect tutors to collaborate with each other in order to develop and/or expand curricula. Prior tutoring experience is preferred and a bachelor's degree (or ongoing study towards a degree) is required. All candidates will be given an assessment test in their subject prior to interviewing.

Various schedules and locations are available. The classes are at elementary schools around central Marin. Each session is 7-12 weeks. There are separate class levels for grades K, 1-2, and 3+. 

Teachers typically teach one to two 1-hour after-school classes per day, on days of their choice. 

The main skills needed are: to appear reliably; to be able to safely manage classes of 5-15 children, ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade; to be enthusiastic about learning and teaching; and to be able to understand and teach a wide range of science topics at k-6 levels based on pre-written lesson plans (a formal science background is *not* required).

The Alliance Specialist provides direct services to child care center clients implementing the project’s vision, goals, and values on a day to day basis.  

This Position Reports to the Alliance Director

Key Responsibilities


  • Maintain high level of  expertise in need and eligibility criteria, admission priorities, and  requirements of the California Department of Education (CDE) Title V Regulations.

  • Keep up-to-date with any changes to CDE Regulations and Management Bulletins.

  • Communicate with  child care center clients and third parties as necessary to obtain and  verify relevant data to determine family need and eligibility for services  prior to enrollment.

  • Perform ongoing need and  eligibility certifications, updates and re-certifications for CDE  subsidized families per regulations.

  • Monitor and resolve issues with Alternative Payment Provider family certificate expirations/extensions on an ongoing basis.

  • Follow up on outstanding  issues until a resolution is reached.

  • Ensure timely transfers of verified family file information to agencies.

  • Closely communicate with participating child care agencies regarding existing or forecasted vacancies.

  • Assists with maintenance of data management and reporting processes and procedures.

  • Perform data entry, data  management, and reporting for a range of early childhood programs utilized  by child care center clients including but not limited to Preschool for All, OECE Early Learning Scholarships, Alternative Payment Providers, and  California Department of Education. 

  • Maintain confidentiality of agency, clients, and family information.

  • Ensure consistent and timely submission of reports.

  • Provide prompt support to client agencies including local travel to sites when necessary. 

  • Attend and proactively participate in all meetings relevant to service delivery      and staff professional development.

  • Stay current in developments and trends in the early education sector and issues relevant to the  mission and make recommendations as appropriate.

  • Entry level accounting data entry as needed.

  • Other projects and/or tasks as assigned by the Alliance Director

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree, or combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and skills.

  • At least six (6) months experience with early care and education data management preferred and/or strong interest and aptitude for data management, and interest and passion for  early childhood business services.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese with strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish/Chinese.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, data management and technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Hey there! Blue Bear School of Music (the original school of rock 'n' roll) needs fun and engaging music teachers for kids' classes!

We're looking for instructors to teach elementary-aged children (K-5th) in our after-school programs. The classes are primarily of the sing-along, dance-along, jam-a-long type for the budding young music lover. Students sing children’s songs, classic and contemporary songs, and use simple instruments, movements, and props such as shakers, sticks, drums, and scarves to have fun with the songs. The students get a sense of rhythm, melody, dynamics, and sharing, and have fun in the process. Teachers are provided a class curriculum outline but are free to use both their own resources and our YouTube channel of teacher songs for inspiration (the channel is mostly for the younger kid classes).

Most classes occur between the hours of 2PM and 5PM and happen at locations in San Francisco. We currently need someone on paired days of Mon/Wed and Tues/Thurs from around 3 to around 4pm at schools in the Richmond and Sunset districts of San Francisco. There will be no more than 10 kids in the class, with often two adult supervisors in the room to assist with classroom management. (Typical class size is 8 kids). Other locations pop up frequently, so there is a possibility for additional teaching gigs.

 

This is a contractor position where new teachers start at $60 for classes lasting up to an hour (including the minimal prep, set up, and breakdown required to teach a class). A background check is required for all contract employees, and some locations require a TB test (taken within the last 2 years) and Livescan fingerprinting (fee reimbursable by Blue Bear).To be clear, we are not looking for master musicians with experience in teaching private lessons to a child or two. We need solid, experienced teachers who can quickly and easily engage groups of students that are learning and having fun with basic music concepts. The Summit Model

Teaching at Summit is unlike teaching at a traditional school - our teachers are empowered to meet the needs of every student through a variety of pedagogical methods. Summit teachers use data to support the self-development and academic and social-emotional growth for the students they mentor and teach. What you’ll do:

 


  • A student school day is around 8-8:30am to 3-3:30pm, depending on the specific school. See sample teacher schedules here.


  • Project Time: Teach two to three 90-minute blocks per day of project time. Most teach one course for the entire grade (e.g. 9th Grade Biology), and see each section twice per week. Teachers work with students on projects that develop cognitive skills and apply their content knowledge to real-world situations. Teachers facilitate discussions in the classroom, coach students in applying their cognitive skills, and give students feedback.


  • Interventions and Personalized Learning Time: Facilitate daily literacy or math interventions and personalized learning time, which don’t involve lesson planning. During this time, teachers provide student support, monitor progress, and check in with individuals or groups of students.


  • Prep Time: Between teaching blocks, teachers analyze student data, build lesson plans, support school culture, and other personal development activities. Summit teachers build lesson plans through a deep understanding of student progress data, which determines the group and individual supports needed for their students to succeed.


  • Mentor Time: Build deep relationships and sense of community when teachers meet with their small group of mentees daily for their entire time at Summit. One day a week, teachers meet for most of the day with their mentor groups, work on habits of success as a group, and check in one-on-one with their mentees. Mentors coach and advocate for their mentees both inside and outside of the classroom, and strive to support them as they develop their sense of purpose as they become self-directed learners.


  • Professional Development: Twice a week, teachers participate in all-faculty after-school meetings where community decisions are made, professional development takes place, and faculty collaborates as a grade-level team. Additionally, teachers meet at least twice per month with their faculty mentor to develop as a teacher-leader.

  • Enter new pricing options, sales, discounts, codes, invoicing, etc. in MindBody Online.

  • Order of supplies and work with vendors.

  • Keep studio supplied with “special touches” such as fruit for the water and fresh plants/flowers.
