Job Title: Teacher 
Reports To: Site Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Customary Work Days: Monday through Friday.
Center Work Hours: 7:00AM to 6:00 PM
Hours are extended when enrolment/ratio is increased/hours are lessened when enrollment/ratio is decreased.

POSITION SUMMARY:    Teachers at the Sunshine Center assists the Director in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment. They encourage the involvement of the families of the children of the program and support the development of relationships between children and their families. 

RESPONSIBILITIES shall include, but not be limited to the following:
-    Interact With Children:
•    Utilize appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline.
•    Model positive behavior.
•    Assist in instructing and supervising children in classroom activities.
•    Implement age appropriate activities that support the High Scope Theory.
•    Continuously monitor children to ensure safety at all times, and report child abuse and neglect when necessary.
-    Assess Children:
•    Assess children on a regular basis.
•    Take pictures and maintain anecdotal notes, written observations, and other approved forms of documentation for each child.
-    Curriculum Preparation:
•    Utilize research library, research, plan, and develop age appropriate activities for lesson plans in conjunction with the Director.
•    Assist the Director in incorporating required activities into lesson plans that support children’s development.
•    Help prepare activities that support lesson plans.

-    Communicate With Parents:
•    Maintain open communication with parents.
•    Inform parents about daily classroom routine, expectations, policies, field trips, and volunteer opportunities.
•    Communicate with parents about incidents that have been observed and/or recorded on site. 
•    Obtain all required classroom parental signatures such as on all incident reports and field trip permission slips.

-    Documentation:
•    Design and complete documentation panels for the classrooms and hallways..
•    Maintain accurate and up to date portfolios.
•    Maintain classroom supply lists and inventory.
-    Administration:
•    Participate in team meetings. Communicate and share ideas and concerns with Director or Teachers Aide
•    Engage in continuing education and professional development activities such as trainings, workshops, and classes to meet required qualifications.
•    Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.

-    Classroom Maintenance:
•    Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment.
•    Sanitize all surfaces, equipment, and classroom toys.
•    Maintain a quality room arrangement in compliance with curriculum standards.
•     Routinely check classroom equipment and materials

-    Miscellaneous:
•    Supervising the classroom.
•    Assisting in any other appropriate ways.
•    Maintaining professional attitudes and loyalty to the school.
•    Treating all children with dignity and respect.
•    Participating in professional workshops that work for the improvement of early childhood education.
•    Maintaining confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
•    Supervising outside playground activities.
•    Helping with the operations of audio/visual aids (media, tablets, etc.).
•    Follow directions given by immediate supervisor.


Education and/or Experience:
-    Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college with a minimum of one year of experience OR

2 years of college with the following
-    Minimum 45 Credits in ECE Education or Elementary Education
-    At least 6 months experience working in a preschool environment.
o    In home certified center, preschool or head start
-    Experience building emergent curriculum and recording observations
-    Food Handlers Card
-    CPR/First Aid certification
-    Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect course taken preferred.
-    A genuine desire to have an impact in the life of children

The Cornell School is looking for a full time qualified preschool/kindergarten teacher for the Fall 2019 school year. We are a small, private preschool in the Cedar Mill/ Forest Heights area with a focus on families of working professionals.


Interested applicants must have the following prior to the start of school:

- An associates degree or bachelor or masters degree in early childhood education (ECE) or education and or child psychology

We are seeking a Preschool teacher to join our team! You will assist in the education, development, and supervision of children. We use a blend of play based, Montessori, and Reggie Emilia for our blended age group with an emphasis on Kindergarten readiness socially, emotionally, and academically. Low ratios allow time with each child to meet them at their level to facilitate growth. This position also requires some supervising of other staff.   • Eighteen years or older

  • Valid Drivers License preferred

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more and be able to lift, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, and be on your feet for long periods of time

  • Possess good communication skills and strong work ethic
