The Crowden Music Center seeks a part-time piano teacher to start immediately.

Crowden is a Berkeley non-profit organization that combines music and education to nurture, develop, and inspire students of all ages. Founded in 1983 by Scottish violinist Anne Crowden, today Crowden serves an annual audience of 12,000 with a rich array of workshops, events, and concerts. Each year, more than 1,400 music students of all ages and levels of ability participate in Crowden’s private lessons, music classes, ensembles, and summer programs. Crowden’s flagship program is The Crowden School: a coeducational day school for grades four through eight that provides a distinguished education with chamber music at the core. In addition, Crowden is an active center for music rehearsals, performances, and recitals for students and professional musicians.

We are currently seeking an experienced teacher to teach private piano lessons during after school hours, preferably on Monday and/or Thursday afternoons. Students range in age from 6-year old beginners to more experienced teenagers, and sometimes adults. Lessons are scheduled according to mutual availability with the teacher and the students.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching private piano lessons to students ranging in age and ability level.

• Experience communicating with parents regarding musical progress and any behavioral or social issues that require parental involvement.

• Post-secondary degree in music, Masters level with piano emphasis is preferred.

  • Degree in Music or related field

  • High School teaching experience, preferred

  • Intellectually curios and willing to grow professionally

  • Teaching credential, preferred 

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students and staff 

  • Maintains best professional practices in communicating with peers, students and parents 

Salary and benefits are according to a Union contract.

Full-time faculty are eligible for health and dental insurance, medical and dependent care flex plan, Archdiocesan pension, and 403b.
