Overview



  • Must be very familiar with Pharmacy benefit billing (PBM)


  • Interacts with patients, physician offices, home health nursing agencies, payers and other related health care professionals.


  • Performs IV sterile medications and specialty drugs preparation



Responsibilities



  • Collects, enters and updates patient specific data into pharmacy software program for prescription and billing processing including but not limited to third party payers, delivery preferences and allergies.


  • Processes prescriptions and ensures that third party adjudication process (Part D Pharmacy benefit billing) is complete in accordance with pharmacy procedure


  • Prepares and processes prior authorization and performs pharmacy benefit billing and other payment related activities


  • Assist with the maintenance of all paperwork and filing as required


  • Assists PI coordinator in performing audit, QA, PI activities


  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. May work on company projects, participate in performance improvement program, complete and monitor quality assurance program, assist the purchasing.



 



  • Assists the pharmacist with the preparation and dispensing of medications and supplies using appropriate techniques and following Pharmacy policies and procedures.


  • Accurately calibrates equipment. Assists with recording and maintaining pharmacy temperature and cleaning logs. Ensures that all pharmacy surfaces, laminar flow hoods and clean room are cleaned per Pharmacy policy.


  • Perform sanitation and maintenance of the cleanroom area and infusion equipment according to 797 USP Standards.


  • Compounds sterile admixtures and prepare specialty drugs including but not limited to parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, hydration using aseptic technique


  • Prepares labels, prescription, compounding work orders and completes and maintains product lot numbers and expiration dates. Generates delivery/pick up tickets under the supervision of the Pharmacist. Prepares supplies


  • Manages inventory, places orders, maintain and track infusion equipment, stocks shelves and removes out-of-date items from the inventory


  • Adheres to all accreditation, state, and federal pharmacy legal regulatory and safety requirements.



 


Requirements of the IV Pharmacy Technician include:



  • Home Infusion/IV or specialty Infusion/Pharmacy benefit billing experience required


  • Must have open, clean and active California Pharmacy Technician license.


  • Ability to successfully complete background check, client health screening criteria and drug screen


  • Excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Strong interpersonal skills and well developed verbal and written communication skills


  • Excellent organization skills and detail oriented


  • Computer literate, CPR Plus, CareTend, and Pharmacy Software experience a plus.

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician is preferred but not required. Must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date.
