Calling all pet lovers! Heaven Sent Pet Care, a professional dog walking and pet-sitting company (serving Evanston, Wilmette, and Kenilworth) is currently looking for dynamic, caring, and trustworthy pet lovers to join our expanding team. Start making supplemental income doing what you love!

We are currently hiring for OVERNIGHT HOUSE-SITTERS/PET-SITTERS and we will be thorough in finding the next good "fit" for our expanding team. If you love to spend time outdoors, are a self-starter, and are able to work independently and manage a changing schedule, this may be the job for you!

Our services:

This position requires OVERNIGHT STAYS (sleeping over in a client's home) with the client's animals. House-sitters are contacted for each House-sitting job that a client schedules, and may accept or decline each job.

Overnight house-sitting with Heaven Sent:

Each overnight stay begins from the dinner period (sitter arrives to the home between 5-7pm) and continues until the morning period (sitter leaves no earlier than 7am). Clients are expecting the house-sitter to be in the home with their animals during that overnight period, but outside of simple pet/home care tasks, feedings, and taking the dog(s) out for walks and to do its business, the house-sitter spends most of the evening in the client's home how they wish. Our clients want their sitters to be comfortable during their stay! However, please note: You will not able to have guests with you at any time in the client's home during your stay.

House-sitting jobs last anywhere from 1 night to 2 weeks (you must be able to do all nights in that house-sitting order). On average, a typical booking for a house-sitter is 3-6 nights in a row.

Compensation: the base rate that goes to a house-sitter starts at $32.50 for an overnight with one animal and goes up from there. That rate is increased depending on client surcharges, number of animals the sitter is caring for, whether the sitter is able to complete the midday walks, etc. (Any gratuity from clients is paid 100% to our sitters, and is not included in this rate).

Generally, House-sitting is caring for dogs and may include other animals (cats, gerbils, fish etc).

The type of work included in house-sitting is:

  • Walking the dog (according to client profile)

  • Feeding each pet their special diet and maintaining each pet's daily routines.

  • Spending time playing with or exercising each pet

  • Administering medication (when necessary)

  • Combing or brushing each pet's coat (and any other animal care specified)

  • Mail and newspaper retrieval

  • Other specified care

We provide a professional work environment. This is a supported position and we are office staffed from 8am-4pm Monday through Friday for any questions or help a sitter might need. We also have emergency contacts for sitters, if an issue arises after business hours. We offer continuing training and tips for new sitters to become successful in this industry.

We are looking for candidates who:

Are organized, dependable, trustworthy, timely, and professional.

Have great customer service and communication skills.

Are team players who can handle last-minute changes and requests from clients.

Are able to work independently and responsibly.

Enjoy being outside in all four seasons and the weather that comes with them! (Rain, snow, heat, cold, wind...)

Are interested in long-term work. We view this position as a supplemental career choice and do not often hire just seasonally or temporarily.

Love Animals! You don't have to have any animal work experience, but we find it is helpful if you have at least had pets of your own before.

You need to be...

At least 21 years old, able to pass a background/criminal check, and have at least 2 references.

You need to have...

Excellent dog-handling skills and intuition to walk and control dogs of all sizes and breeds.

A reliable insured automobile and a valid driver's license OR access to reliable transportation to and from your house-sit assignments.

A computer with access to the internet, a printer, a smartphone (preferably with a data plan or texting).

Because Heaven Sent does not compensate for travel time/commute, it is best if you live in or near one of our service areas (Wilmette, Evanston, or Kenilworth).

Holidays: It is our preference that you are available to take a house-sitting booking on at least 2 out of our 3 major house-sitting holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Years, and/or Spring Break). Holidays incur an additional surcharge that is paid to the house-sitter.> **For holiday house-sitting, we can make arrangements for the day of the holiday so that you may spend time with family and friends. For example, we would send another walker to do a dinner visit at the home, so that you could arrive later in the evening.

Do you live in SF? (No BRIDGE commuters, Daly City OK)

Own a SUV/van/wagon/truck w bed cover? (Sorry no exceptions, unless you buy one.

While many other dog walking jobs you'll see are on leash solo or with a couple dogs, our operation should not even be called dog walking at all. What we do is lead packs of dogs off leash in forests and on beaches, running them through adventures everyday. On the underbelly of it all though is learning and socialization. These dogs learn from you how to be well behaved and disciplined both on their own, with each other, and with their handlers. Teacher, boot camp instructor, pack leader, canine concierge; we wear many hats, and sometimes they get eaten. What we're looking for is someone fun, energetic, positive, and looking to enjoy this career for at least a year. So we ask you:

  • Own a SUV/van/wagon/truck w bed cover? (Sorry no exceptions, unless you buy one)

  • Live in SF? (No BRIDGE commuters, Daly City OK)

  • There is no previous dog experience required!

  • Do you LOVE dogs?

  • Athletic, energetic and looking to stay fit?

  • Know the City's layout?

  • Have a cell phone and know how to use it?

  • Able to commit to a year or more?

  • Friendly, outgoing, and customer savvy?

  • Have extreme patience?!

  • Eager to learn? To teach?

If you can rightfully answer "yes" to each and every of the preceding questions, apply now. These are all "must have" qualities to keep our company at the forefront of the industry. Even though these are seemingly basic, they are at the heart of what we do. Be not mistaken, we are top tier and need you to be, too. We won SF's #1 Dog Walking company in three separate publications just this year.

If you're still reading, you're probably looking for this last set of details: MONEY!!

Trainee $15/hr when riding along or doing after hours training meetings (one week). $19/hr when driving alone

Dogtoral Candidate $20/hr

Puppy Professor - $21

Dean Of Dogs - $22/hr

Assistant Field Managers - $23/hr or salary

Field Managers - $30,000 annual salary (~$1,150/paycheck)

Chief Happiness Officer - $32,500 annual salary ($1,250/paycheck)

Chief Operations Officer - $37,700 annual salary ($1,450/paycheck)

You shadow for a week, taking in $14/hour. Essentially you do nothing but ride along, meet the dogs and coworkers, and learn the basics of the daily routine. Not bad at all. Week #2 is a bit different, so we up you to $19/hour. You start picking up your own packs of dogs and meet up with me and other staff at our walking locations - typically Crissy Field and the forest at the Presidio. You start keeping track of your mileage and will be reimbursed gallon for gallon. You learn. You're bumped up to $20 for 2nd leg of training, and after your training is complete, typically the first two months of employ, $21/hour. You'll get your dog walker certification ($800 you don't have to spend) and ready to go. The longer you stick with it, the more you involve yourself in our company mission, the more you demonstrate your willingness to work hard and grow professionally, the more you learn, the more you earn. We currently have 5/8 staffers on salary.

Typical shifts last five to six hours Monday-Friday, you start in the late morning and are home by early evening, roughly 10-4. If you want an 8 hour day that can be arranged. For us, there is no such thing as working nights, weekends, or holidays. However, good extra income is available to you through boarding, solo walks, and eventually private lessons on your own personal schedule as needed by our clientele. If you can sit dogs you can make thousands in cash!!!!!

If you want to work here simply describe your interest in a convincing, professional email (cover letter). Your email is your ticket, so craft it well. Professional submissions will be looked at. We look forward to hearing from you.

Each morning, right at sunrise, a pack of young and rambunctious puppies drag their parents into our daycare, and can't wait to greet their fellow pup-mates. The pups are full of energy and literally bouncing off the walls. Sometimes they play with each other nicely, but other times, they play too rough. Or they may have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed that morning, and would prefer to stay away from the other dogs that day. On top of that, the pups are prone to having accidents, usually of the pottying variety.

This is where you come in. As a Canine Specialist, you will be in charge of the dogs when they want to play with each other, and when they don't. You'll encourage them to play nicely with each other, but must be ready to step in and interrupt them when they start to play too rough. You'll also need to recognize when a dog is having a bad hair day, and needs your help to keep the other dogs away. Your day will also be filled with constant cleaning, as potty accidents are frequent, and must be cleaned immediately.

All our team members are passionate about caring for pets.  We work together as a team, and are committed to being the best in the industry.  The work is hard, but we always carry a positive attitude, and recognize that our hard work is helping dogs live a happier and healthier lifestyle.  When we do a great job, we give credit to the team members that made it possible.

Key Results Areas:

Safe animal care — handling dogs ethically, and keeping them safe with minimal fights and injuries

Fun animal care — keep dogs engaged and happy through physical activity, mental activity, and dog training games

Cleanliness and sanitation — keeping the facility clean and odor-free

Client interactions — always eager to help our pet parents and provide them with frequent stories about their pup in daycare

Attendance — punctuality and prompt communication about running late and scheduling conflicts

Communication — frequent communication about the dogs, customers, and how to improve our daycare

Additional Requirements:

• Passion and love for all canines

• Great at talking to people

• Always clean and organized

• Comfortable with all dogs, including large dogs

• Able to lift at least 50 lbs

• Perform physically strenuous work all-day

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Able to start shifts as early as 6:30 AM, or shifts that end as late as 9:00 PM

• Takes initiative and is innovative in a start-up type of environment

Previous experience in dog care helpful, but not required. We will provide training in play group management, dog handling techniques, and sanitation.

Compensation range is $15-$18 per hour, depending on performance.  We also provide an opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses and additional income opportunities.

To summarize, we are looking for individuals who find immense joy in interacting with animals and their human pet parents.  We are also looking for individuals who have an appreciation for new businesses, new ideas, and a strong desire to achieve great results in a supportive team environment.

Please send a resume and cover letter to woof*AT*playbowdogs*DOT*com

Please include the following information in your cover letter:

• Detailed availability weekdays and weekends

• Whether you are seeking a part-time or full-time position

• How you will help us in our pursuit to become the best dog daycare

• Your favorite breed of dog

• Your #1 favorite thing about dogs

• Why you would be an excellent addition to our new team

LIST A FEW REFERENCES. At least one must be a former employer.
