Need Quality Engineer for a part-time project to validate completed control plans by performing process audits.  APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, MSA, FMEA, etc.  The products are power switches.  After the QE work is completed the project will turn into an Orange Tag inspection project.  We would like the same Associate to perform both the initial QE work and the subsequent inspection activity.  



  • MEB’s are large buildings that have 20-30 modules in each that ship to data centers to support the servers

  • Each module is about a shipping container in size and inside is electrical gear

  • Current status of MEB/Modules in development stage with production starting Q1

  • SQA to support validation of deliverables at the site, examples: work instructions, process flow, quality and control plans

  • SQA to support orange tag inspection at the sight (similar to Ireland/Sioux Falls)

  • SQA entry point is the level 1 stage and is protecting the Level 2 and 3 escapes once the MEB is at the data center

  • SQA Start date would be later July, early August


Education and Experience:


B.S. Degree in Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.


Minimum 7 years of experience in the Quality Assurance/Quality Control field.

Provide managed inspection services at their GEN center integration supplier locations. Inspection services include visual, physical, and dimensional (both in-process and final) of machined, electro-mechanical, and other parts, according to the client's requirements and specifications. The inspection may consist of, but not be limited to, the following activities: a. Incoming inspection from external providers of products or services/processing (e.g., nickel plating). b. In-process and final inspection of critical features such as witness inspection. c. Compilation of final inspection sign-off sheet and report packages. d. Verification that inspection equipment used to take measurements is capable of detecting defects. e. Verification that inspection methodology is adequate per drawing intent. f. Audit and validate the execution to the inspection plan. g. Provide weekly reports of manufacturing sites ramp progress, equipment quality performance of the facility, delivery details by Data Center site. h. Conduct periodic quality audits of the supplier’s factory, provide reports of results. i. Drive closure of findings identified as non-conformance. j. Scroll compressors are unique in that their designs include a variety of Mechanical Engineering specialties to fully understand the working principals. These specialties include:




  • Heat Transfer: As compression occurs most gasses heat up. Typically, this heat needs to be dissipated during operating in order to increase reliability and performance.


  • Thermodynamics: Compression or expansion of gasses is a thermodynamic process. In order to understand what is occurring fundamentally in the compressor a good understanding of thermodynamics needs to be understood.


  • Mechanics of Materials: Air Squared fabricates scroll devices from a variety of materials. Properties such as strength, density, resistance to heat and CTE need to be considered.


  • Dynamics: The dynamic operation of scroll devices needs to be understood in order to estimate bearing loads and shaft deflections.


  • Statics: When performing static balancing of a scroll compressor, basic principals in statics are used.


  • Fluid Dynamics: Air Squared uses software such as CFD to analyze compressible flow. Properties such as cooling, and pressure drop are derived.


 


The job will include assisting in the design, prototyping and testing of new scroll compressor, expander and vacuum pump designs. This includes detailing the design to be ready for manufacturing as well as producing necessary documentation for machine shops.


 


Responsibilities will include:



  • Strong understanding of SolidWorks or some similar software

  • Use of CAE tools such as FEA, CFD and EES

  • Hardware selection such as couplings, bearings, fasteners and o-rings

  • Estimating prototype performance during the design stage

  • Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Supporting machine shops (at Air Squared or qualified suppliers) to answer questions on critical dimensions or design changes

  • Design of test stands

  • Basic assembly or hands-on duties. Most assembly work is performed by the lab technicians

  • Testing and troubleshooting scroll prototypes

About You



  • BS in computer science (or equivalent)

  • Expertise in React/Vuejs

  • Expertise in writing unit tests in one of the following; jest, mocha, cypress.io

  • Experience with REST and/or GraphQL APIs

  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of SQL or NoSQL databases

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Specific Requirements



  • A Bachelors’ degree in an engineering discipline (mechanical, civil, electrical, structural) from an accredited ABET school

  • Minimum of 10-15+ years professional engineering experience


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Supports USDA Agricultural Research Service across the country

  • Travel may be required to conduct engineering site assessments and manage projects both CONUS and OCONUS

  • Shall manage projects of design, repair and/or construction for facility repair and maintenance projects across 26 locations

  • Projects include replacing HVAC systems, upgrading network infrastructure, retro-commissioning, storm repairs, and irrigation repairs and upgrades

  • Attends meetings, provides status updates, and updates project tracking spreadsheets

  • Technically managing and developing facilities/site designs (electrical, civil and structural/architectural) for new construction and/or renovation projects to existing facilities/structures;

  • Working as technical consultant and/or as a contracting officer’s representative (COR) in the contracting process.

  • Performing technical site assessments and providing engineering recommendations for design/construction solutions;

  • Developing Statements of Work (SoWs);

  • Developing Independent Government Estimates (IGE);

  • Providing technical support to contracting during the Bid phase;

  • Reviewing project submittals to meet applicable requirements, specifications, technical criteria/codes;

  • Experience working on farm operations including greenhouses, irrigation control systems, flood control, and surface water management is preferred.

  • Engineering experience working on research laboratories and/or facilities is preferred.

  • Conducts project management activities for various construction and renovation projects

  • Ability to read design drawings, specifications and other various construction documents
