Kid Spa Austin Directors are responsible for ensuring that our centers operate to the absolute highest standards of care and for driving our reputation as the number one drop-in center in the area. Responsibilities Include:

• Ensuring a safe and clean environment for the children in our care.

• Creating and implementing local marketing plans to drive registrations and attendance.

• Development and execution of the curriculum and program activities.

• Creating the center's event schedule and sharing those activities with other Kid Spa Austin centers.

• Monitoring variable costs associated with the center and eliminating waste in all areas.

• Driving and tracking staff training requirements.

• Managing the staff and ensuring proper student/teacher ratios are maintained at all times.

• Ensuring all DFPS licensing standards are met or exceeded.

Job Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, you must meet all of the following requirements:

• Prefer 3+ years supervisory experience as a Director or Assistant Director of a childcare center licensed for at least 10 teachers and 75 students

• Must have a current Texas Director License or be qualified to obtain one

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education strongly preferred

• Business and Program oriented; Excellent communication skills; Upbeat and friendly attitude with an acute attention to safety and detail

• Must have excellent computer skills (MS Office, MS Windows Programs)

• Must be friendly at all times, diligent in your work and a great people manager!

• Must be able to pass a local and federal background check• Must meet all other requirements as outlined by the Texas DFPS

ABOUT THE JCCEASTBAY

The JCC East Bay is a welcoming, inspiring home for people of all ages and life stages. We encourage intellectual, experiential and spiritual exploration of Jewish culture and tradition, build joyful, progressive and inclusive community, and inspire the active pursuit of Tikkun Olam (repair of the world). Our programs include Jewish holiday celebrations and a myriad of literary, cultural, fitness events, lectures and concerts throughout the year.

Our award-winning preschool and highly regarded afterschool programs are known for their exciting curricula and dynamic staff. The afterschool program serves over 600 children at two public schools in Oakland, and at our /CC sites in Oakland and Berkeley. Our day camp, Camp Tzofim, is a popular choice for East Bay kids and parents during the summer, and we have a large, active delegation to the national JCC Maccabi Games every year.

We are currently seeking teachers for our Berkeley and Oakland sites, including our Kids Club at Joaquin Miller School in Oakland. We are also looking for substitutes for all the above locations.

Position Summary

The Afterschool Teacher participates in all functions of the Afterschool programs. Teachers prepare & direct weekly enrichment classes based on personal passions & skills. JCC East Bay welcomes qualified participants of all backgrounds and identities.

Example of Duties


  • Supervise children, including strong attention to health, safety & planning, preparation & implementation of developmentally appropriate programs for children-grades K-5. 

  • Effectively & professionally communicate with parents.

  • Participate with team in weekly staff meetings & scheduled programs.

  • Assist with daily pick-ups from schools.

  • Support maintaining all afterschool spaces in an organized, clean & operational manner.

Qualifications


  • Experience working with children grades K-5; plan & deliver age appropriate activities.

  • Be at least 18 years old & a High School graduate. Completion of college courses preferred.

  • Committed to development, creation & modeling positive children's learning environments.

  • Able to work well with others as an effective team member.

  • California Driver's License Class C required; Class B license especially welcome.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Read and understand program philosophy, personnel policies, position description, non-discrimination policy, and other related materials covering the teacher position.

  • As part of the TICDC team, assists in the planning and implementation of curriculum according to the Creative Curriculum guidelines, incorporates the California Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks, Desired Results Developmental Profiles, (DRDPs), CSEFEL strategies and the observations of children which evolves and expands over time, according to the needs and interests of the children.

  • Establishes a primary relationship with a group of children and their families.

Apple Swift Coding Instructor: Part-time, non-exempt | 8-15 hours per week | $20 per hour

Robotics Coach: Part-time, non-exempt | 2-6 hours per week | $25 per hour

Apple Swift Coding Instructor:

Apple Swift is a robust and intuitive programming language created by Apple for building apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. It’s designed to give developers more freedom than ever. Swift is easy to use and open source, so anyone with an idea can create something incredible.

The responsibility of the Apple Swift Coding Instructor is to guide 9th grade students through a provided curriculum using iPad apps. Curriculum will guide and support both learners and instructors such that no prior coding knowledge or experience is required. Facilitator is responsible for sharing feedback on curriculum in order to support program refinements and for meeting additional responsibilities as assigned by the Student Life Director or College Track San Francisco staff.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or currently working toward degree

  • A passion for College Track’s work

  • Previous teaching or workshop facilitation experience strongly preferred

  • Strong classroom management skills

  • A willingness to learn about coding alongside high school learners and colleagues

  • An interest in developing youth as community and STEM leaders

  • Availability to participate in and support with one leadership building event per class cycle (per academic semester)

  • A creative, growth mindset

Sample Schedule:

During the academic year, College Track’s operation hours are generally from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Programming generally runs from 4:30 PM to 6:50 PM; Period 1 begins at 4:40 PM and ends at 5:40 PM and Period 2 begins at 5:50 PM and ends at 6:50 PM.


  • 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Meet with Student Life Director to review lesson for the week. Discuss areas of strength and growth from the previous week, and align on objective for current week.

  • 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Preparation for programming - arrange iPads and Apple pencils; make sure devices have all necessary systems updates, apps, and content loaded prior to students arriving; arrange supplemental equipment (e.g. projector, speaker system, etc.).

  • 4:30 PM - 4:40 PM: Unity Circle - A daily ritual that brings together everyone present at the site to build community.

  • 4:40 PM - 5:40 PM: Period 1 - Facilitation of Apple Swift Coding lesson.

  • 5:40 PM - 5:50 PM: 10-minute Break

  • 5:50 PM - 6:50 PM Period 2: Facilitation of Apple Swift Coding lesson.

  • 6:50 PM - 7:00 PM Clean up: Return computers and/or iPads and Apple pens to charging station; dispose of any and all trash; ensure classroom is neat and orderly.

Robotics Coach:

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is an international youth organization that operates a number of youth-based STEM-oriented competitions such as FIRST Robotics and FIRST Tech Challenge. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders and innovators of the next generation. By engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, FIRST inspires innovation and fosters well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

The responsibility of the Robotics Coach is to guide and mentor students with varying technology skill levels through the process of designing, building, and operating a robot. The robot kit is reusable from year to year and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or currently working toward degree

  • A passion for College Track’s work

  • Experience in one or more of the following technical areas is highly desirable: Leadership Management, Technical Management, Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotic Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Industrial Fabrication

  • Previous teaching or workshop facilitation experience strongly preferred

  • 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM Meet with Student Life Director to review lesson for the week. Discuss areas of strength and growth from the previous week, and align on objective for current week.

  • 4:30 PM - 4:40 PM Unity Circle: A daily ritual that brings together everyone present at the site to build community.

What you’ll do:

 


  • A student school day is around 8-8:30am to 3-3:30pm, depending on the specific school. See sample teacher schedules here.


  • Project Time: Teach two to three 90-minute blocks per day of project time. Most teach one course for the entire grade (e.g. 9th Grade Biology), and see each section twice per week. Teachers work with students on projects that develop cognitive skills and apply their content knowledge to real-world situations. Teachers facilitate discussions in the classroom, coach students in applying their cognitive skills, and give students feedback.


  • Interventions and Personalized Learning Time: Facilitate daily literacy or math interventions and personalized learning time, which don’t involve lesson planning. During this time, teachers provide student support, monitor progress, and check in with individuals or groups of students.


  • Prep Time: Between teaching blocks, teachers analyze student data, build lesson plans, support school culture, and other personal development activities. Summit teachers build lesson plans through a deep understanding of student progress data, which determines the group and individual supports needed for their students to succeed.


  • Mentor Time: Build deep relationships and sense of community when teachers meet with their small group of mentees daily for their entire time at Summit. One day a week, teachers meet for most of the day with their mentor groups, work on habits of success as a group, and check in one-on-one with their mentees. Mentors coach and advocate for their mentees both inside and outside of the classroom, and strive to support them as they develop their sense of purpose as they become self-directed learners.


  • Professional Development: Twice a week, teachers participate in all-faculty after-school meetings where community decisions are made, professional development takes place, and faculty collaborates as a grade-level team. Additionally, teachers meet at least twice per month with their faculty mentor to develop as a teacher-leader.

The after-school program, known as The Neighborhood, is open to Presidio Hill School students (TK-8th grade) from dismissal (between 2:45 and 3:30pm - staggered dismissal time) until 6pm. We seek to create a safe and fun space where the students can spend their afternoons engaged in free play, social growth, academic time, and enrichment opportunities (such as cooking, arts & crafts, group games, etc). We’re seeking someone to join a team of 4, a director and three teachers, who make up the after-school staff. General work hours would be approximately 2:30-6pm primarily with grades 3-8. In addition, there are some mandatory all day camp and evening childcare responsibilities in which you will be scheduled for longer shifts (generally 10-6pm). 

Primary Responsibilities  

~Supervise students in grades TK-8 in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.

~Develop positive relationships with the students and serve as a role model.

~Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural education and guidelines.

During the Neighborhood Program:  

~Assist grades 3-8 with homework during daily academic time. 

~Plan fun games, activities and projects that encompass the arts, science, cooking and recreation.  

~Help prepare and cleanup snack and activities.  

~Report to the After-School Enrichment Program (AEP) Director. The AEP Director may assign additional duties.

We are currently seeking responsible, high-caliber, patient, and motivated tutors to join our growing team.  Tutors are essential to carrying out our mission, which is to assist elementary school students in literacy development and inspiring children to be life-long readers.  Tutors engage in Reading Partners curriculum with selected students in one-on-one tutoring sessions held at our on-site Reading Centers. Tutors collaborate with the Reading Partners School Site Coordinator at our partner schools to assess the student’s needs and how best to address them.  The children that tutors work with are performing below their expected academic grade level and enjoy the benefits of working with a tutor to improve their overall reading skills.

What you’ll do:

Commit to work for the current academic year.  Consistent, ongoing support is necessary for the children and teachers with whom we work.

Utilize the Reading Partners’ curriculum to tutor/mentor students.

Review student progress notes and prior assessment notes prior to each tutoring session, then complete progress notes after each tutoring session.

Be punctual, attentive, and engaged in tutoring sessions. Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performances are unacceptable and are grounds for discipline up to and including dismissal.

Assist in running the tutoring center, including substitute tutoring, assisting in preparing and coordinating tutoring materials for volunteers.

Be willing to travel to schools in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Milpitas or Redwood City

Be willing to work between 15 and 18 hours per week.

Educational Expertise: Ensure high fidelity of the Reading Partners model. Possess a high level of knowledge and competency in literacy strategies and behavior management. Demonstrate an ability to assess student performance using observations, to analyze data, and to create subsequent strategies aimed at increasing student achievement.  Analyze data and create action plans to improve student results.

Project Management: Demonstrate an ability to effectively manage time, balance multiple competing priorities at once, and, above all, and remain adaptable, flexible, and positive while navigating challenges. Anticipate challenges and/or questions, and proactively act to address them. Understand larger strategic priorities and make measurable progress against these larger goals. Show an ability to make quick, sound, and on-the-fly decisions that consider all stakeholders. See the bigger picture and be able to drill down to smaller details and connect the dots.

  • Occasional travel between Innovate office sites in the Bay Area.

 

Qualifications

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation depends on experience and is highly competitive. Innovate offers very generous benefits for half-time employees, including 5% employer contribution to 401k, as well as paid time off (PTO) at a rate of 0.077 hours of PTO per hour worked (after two years, this increases to 0.096 hours of PTO per hour worked). Innovate also offers eight hours per year floating holiday, and four hours per year paid volunteering time off. Innovate also provides a reimbursement of up to $80 per month to compensate for your usage of a personal cell phone for work purposes.
