Sheet Metal Layout Engineer / Sheet Metal Designer
Location: Bensenville, IL
Pay Rate: Based on Experience 
Duration of Job: Temp to Direct Hire, six month contract with the intent of hiring direct.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • SolidWorks 3D modeling and 2D modeling experience. (Required)

  • Ability to detail Sheetmetal part design.

  • Knowledge of fabrication and press brake forming programming.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Develop/Update designs, analyze customer 3D designs and engineer them for fabrication.

  • Program and document parts for manufacturing and modify customer prints.

  • General 3D models from supplied drawings based on standard material library.

  • Create CNC and NC programs for laser cutting using SigmaNest & SigmaTUBE software.

  • Program press-brake using Bybend software.

  • Revise/Update procedures as needed.

  • Collaborate with shop personnel & project engineers.

  • Work with customers on process improvements and offer solutions.

We are seeking someone to help finish manufactured items and to become an integral part of our second shift team! This person will help finish fabricated items to prepare for shipment and many other general metalworking shop needs.  Hours are from 5pm to 4am Monday through Thursday.


Responsibilities:



  • Clean cut parts for welding and assembly

  • Clean and prep welded/manufactured parts for paint

  • Conduct visual examinations to evaluate appearance prior to finishing

  • Many other shop tasks such as running a drill press, ironworker, band saw, milling machine, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Design Standards

Works in conformity with company Duct CAD Standards and detailing practices. Participates in the improvement of company's Duct CAD Standards and detailing practices.


  • Software Proficiency

Possesses a working knowledge and ability to use software platforms required to produce accurate production level drawing. Has proficiency or shows willingness and initiative to learn advanced BIM tools. Stays up to date on current and future software development to maintain proficiency.


  • Detailing Proficiency

Establishes drawings and document format required to complete job. Understands and complies with job specific scope and requirements. Generates concise Request For Information (RFI’s) or field questions when questions or discrepancies arise on contract drawings or specifications. Verifies that all drawings are complete to a constructible state. Consistently reviews shop drawings to insure quality and accuracy prior to distribution to the field. Verifies that all RFI’s written are followed through to construction drawings. Modifies drawings as changes occur and expedite changes to field. Creates accurate record drawings from red-lined field markups. Creates clean, usable working backgrounds.


  • Interdepartmental communications

Communicates with Project Supervision to determine detailing scope. Assists project staff with drawing requirements and priorities. Participates in project coordination efforts and coordinates changes into drawings.


  • Communication Skills

Communicates effectively and keep open lines of communication with CAD Manager and Field Team. Communicates any outstanding job or departmental issues with the CAD Manager. Participates in department meetings and communicates ideas for improvement.


Job Qualifications and Skills:



  • A. degree in design/drafting or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years work experience with Sheet Metal CAD detail drawing in commercial HVAC.

  • Proficiency with software tools including, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Autodesk Fabrication CAD MED, Revit, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other related 3D detailing software tools

  • Familiar with SMACNA Standards

Job Description


Summary: BIM Designs, Inc. is seeking a Journeyman Sheet Metal Detailer to lead BIM modeling and coordination with respect to various sheet metal projects.


General Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:



  • Perform all essential Senior-Level responsibilities expected of a Journeyman Detailer

  • Act as “Lead Detailer and Coordinator” for assigned projects

  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned


Create & Maintain models to fulfill Project-Specific Requirements:



  • Create models including structure, interior and exterior architectural elements and MEP systems (as applicable)

  • Coordinate with BIM service providers and Subcontractors

  • Develop models to illustrate contractor questions and solutions

  • Update as‐built and revised Building Information Model, keep revision log

  • Distribute new and revised models showing changes and RFI answers

  • Compile contract VC close out documentation

  • Create new library components

  • Track all project activities/actions through daily logs


Quantity Take Off



  • Assist to verify original estimate quantities for cost reports

  • Quantity survey, quantity review and system input for labor costing


4D Schedules



  • Assist to develop the modeling schedule

  • Assist in preparation of 4D simulations

  • Assist to develop coordination schedules


Trade Coordination



  • Assist with updating, maintaining and distributing documents to field and subcontractors

  • Assist to set-up and maintain all control logs (RFIs, shop drawings, as-builts, etc.)

  • Site inspection and liaising with trade contractors

  • Prepare and maintain submittal logs and expediting log for VC models

  • Attend and / or assist in model coordination meetings and document project pre-construction /

  • Attend Daily stand up meeting with supervisor

  • Assist with coordinating models with internal and subcontractor detailers and modelers

  • Coordination sign-offs

  • Assist to process shop / fabrication level models for approval


Field Coordination



  • Assist project team with construction coordination and scheduling

  • Coordinate field inspections and assist with formwork design and lift drawings

  • Prepare “shop drawing” level 3D models for self‐performed work

  • Model constructability issues and solutions for self‐performed work

  • Calculate quantities for material orders and crew work planning

  • Produce dimensioned drawings from the model for field use

  • Participate in job layout driven by Level 400 per AIA E202 or otherwise specified 3D model data

  • Perform site visits to review and evaluate progress of job scope with the assistance of the project management team, as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:


  • Journeyman Sheet Metal Card

Education and/or Experience:



  • Minimum three years BIM detailing experience in AutoCAD and REVIT required

  • Experience with SysQue and Plan Grid suggested


Language Skills



  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Ability to speak effectively before guests and associates of the organization


Physical Demands:



  • Is regularly required to sit for extended periods

  • May be required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects

  • Is required to frequently reach with hands and arms

  • Is regularly required to talk or hear

  • Is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job, to include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
