Department/Team Description -
Conformance Department – Responsible for the investigation of discrepancies that are observed during the commercial product manufacturing process in the Berkeley site.

Conformance specialists investigate discrepancies and submit investigation reports to QA for approval.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
•Investigate discrepancies using root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies.


Recommend corrective/preventative actions (CAPAs) based on root cause investigations to eliminate recurrence.
•Lead multi-discipline teams to complete investigations, or for the purpose of Continuous Improvement.
•Determine the breadth of discrepancies and ensure appropriate Stakeholders in other organizations are made aware of a potential similar issues in their areas.
•Influences direction of investigations and communicates with all levels of employees.
•Write concise, accurate and effective discrepancy reports that meet compliance expectations.
•Generate appropriate written documentation to support rationale/justification for decisions made regarding potential impact/risk and product disposition.

Qualifications


 



  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing;

  • Experience in performing investigation type work;

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including equipment, utilities, and facilities, cGMP compliance, high purity water systems, HVAC systems, process instrumentation and control systems, etc.;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as report-writing is a key aspect of the position.

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will be responsible for producing innovative bio-therapeutic medicine by interfacing with highly automated production systems and controls in a current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) environment.


You will maintain areas in a high state of inspection preparedness and will utilize business systems for inventory and process management. You will maintain records to comply with regulatory requirements utilizing cGMP and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and will participate in the routine production of mammalian cell culture products within the Vacaville Manufacturing Facility, operating in at least one of the following production areas:



  • Upstream Manufacturing (UM): Primary focus is the cleaning, sterilization and operation of fixed vessel systems for media preparation, fermentation, and harvest operations; perform seed train operations; perform dispensing of components; handle and aliquot hazardous materials.

  • Downstream Manufacturing (DM): ?Responsibilities include the operation and cleaning of fixed tank systems, the operation and cleaning of filtration systems, large-scale buffer preparation, and the operation of column chromatography systems; perform dispensing of components; handle and aliquot hazardous materials.

  • Production Services (PS): Provide support to Manufacturing to meet production demands. Duties include but are not limited to: CIP/SIP of portable and Freeze/Thaw tanks; clean, assemble, and autoclave 20L fermenters; prepare and autoclave manufacturing assemblies; autoclave solutions; clean and Kanban, glassware, parts and equipment; perform weighing and kitting of components; handle and aliquot hazardous materials; provide quality materials and service to our customers.

  • Follow established safety and environmental guidelines and procedures for all work performed

    As a Manufacturing Technician on the Manufacturing Operations Team, you will safely operate production tools using standard operating procedures to synthesize material from process step to process step. During your shift, you will verify that all production material made meets the defined quality specifications. Your role is instrumental in ensuring that the Manufacturing Team meets and exceeds set production deliverables and targets.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 



    • Immediately report emergencies, incidents, and near misses to the Manufacturing Supervisor

    • Safely operate process and analytical tools

    • Carryout wet chemical processes with manual to semi-automated equipment

    • Identify and correct small minor maintenance tasks on tools

    • Participate in the continuous improvement of safety, quality, output, and tool uptime

    • Work 12 hour day shift rotation schedule to support 24/7 operation

    • Document clock in / clock out times and all breaks as required in defined software

    • Work overtime hours if requested and approved by Manufacturing Supervisor


    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS



    • 2 years experience in a high-volume manufacturing role preferred

    ISLAND seeks a General Manager to join our growing manufacturing team in Oakland, CA. This role will include travel to our second facility in Santa Rosa (>10%).


    As the General Manager of Manufacturing, you will provide leadership and direction to our two plants in areas of responsibility including administration, compliance, production, processing, packaging, scheduling, sanitation, quality, purchasing, and safety.


    You will report to and work hand-in-hand with the VP of Production as the liaison between the Plant and other departments including Sales, Distribution, HQ, and State and Federal Regulatory Personnel.


    Responsibilities



    • Manage and continue to improve the daily operation of the production, maintenance, scheduling, and shipping departments


    • Ensure production and delivery of the highest quality products at the lowest costs, consistent with customer requirements, company plans, and profit objectives


    • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) when new products or processes are introduced in the manufacturing environment


    • Establish plans, budgets, and KPI’s; allocate resources; review progress and make mid-course corrections


    • Influence and interface with Island’s management team, supervisors, team leads, and hourly employees


    • Communicate with senior management on production, metrics, and team performance


    • Lead and manage direct reports, including the coaching and performance feedback for 4+ salaried managers and 60+ hourly employees


    • Develop staff at both Plants and help them expand their capabilities to work independently and take on new challenges and tasks


    • Partner with sales and marketing to develop and lead the business to ensure customer satisfaction, market share gains, and profitable growth


    • Partner with the compliance team to complete internal and external regulatory audits while maintaining records


    • Ensure the Plant complies with all company policies, procedures, ethical standards and all federal, state and local laws/regulations



    Required Education & Experience



    • Must have a High School Diploma with relevant work experience, BA/BS strongly preferred


    • Minimum 7+ years of leadership experience in the manufacturing/production industry


    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a regulated environment with exposure to cGMPs



    Preferred Experience & Knowledge



    • LEAN manufacturing experience and/or certification


    • APICS Certified


    • Experience working with high speed manufacturing and converting machinery


    • Cannabis industry expertise a plus



    Qualifications



    • Strong communicator who has experience working cross-functionally with teams across a wide range of levels in multiple locations
