Shifts are typically 9am-5pm, 5pm-10pm, and 10pm-5am.

Skills required:

1) A happy and positive attitude about work,

2) Conversational English

3) Knife Skills, Ability to learn and memorize recipes, Hand tossing pizzas with quality and speed, Familiarity with various pastas such as Alfredo, Marsala, Carbonara, etc.

4) Ability to work under pressure

5) Ability to take orders from customers

Pay is negotiable depending on skill ($12-$15). Promotions and raises are given for consistency and reliability, and also for learning new stations such as cashiering and serving. Employees who work late (10pm-5am) get an extra dollar to their wage.

Tips are given to the cooks at the end of the shift. The amount varies depending on how busy it is, but it is usually approximately 10 extra dollar per kitchen employee per shift in cash.

Fives Leaves Hollywood is a lively all-day Australian-New American cafe with seasonal menus and an unbeatable ambiance in East Hollywood. 

We are seeking a lead line cook to join a growing team. The ideal candidate has experience leading opening/closing production teams, expediting all meal periods, strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen safety and sanitation, effective time management and quality control.  We work very hard at sourcing sustainable and ethically raised proteins, and our menus follow the seasons.  We are looking for someone positive and high energy that can think on their toes and rise to a challenge as we expand an established brand. 

This is full-time position averaging 40 hours/week. Pay commensurate with experience. 


  • Be able to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends

  • Get along with others and be a team player

  • Interact with, direct, and train/develop line cook employees in a fair and dignified manner

  • Observe line cook employees' standards, strengths and weaknesses, communicate observations to management, partners and trainers and assist in developing and implementing necessary plans of action

  • Assist with identifying, training and developing other lead line cooks

  • Prepare menu items and necessary ingredients according to prescribed recipes and/or special requests and presentations

  • Follow all prescribed portioning controls and maintain food safety and quality standards

  • Correctly read and use a thermometer

  • Communicate any food delays or issues to management 

  • Maintain menu item counts and communicate to management and service staff when quantities fall below restaurant specific minimum quantity

  • Accurately account for all items coming out of their station

  • Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions

  • Comply with all safety and sanitation (including handwashing) guidelines and procedures

  • Be proficient in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment

  • Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook

  • Other duties will be assigned as needed

Skills & Requirements

  • Must have 2 years of related (high volume) kitchen management experience

  • Must have a current Food Protection Certification (or equivalent)

  • Seasonal food/product knowledge

  • Proven ability in teaching and mentoring kitchen employees

  • Exceptional communication skills, Spanish speaking a plus
