We are currently seeking a part time Bilingual (Spanish/English) Mental Health Clinician to provide therapeutic services to children aged 4 to 17 who have experienced child abuse and/or domestic violence trauma. We are open to candidates working in this role between 30 and 35 hours per week. Please state your desired hours and work schedule in your cover letter.

Children who receive our services may be experiencing behavioral / emotional symptoms and diagnosed with PTSD as a result of direct child abuse, or from exposure to domestic violence. The successful candidate will provide trauma-informed therapy that focuses on improving mental health, and will also provide ancillary family therapy services and education to the care-giver parent, including facilitating parent groups and delivering the “Nurturing Parenting” curriculum. 

Hours worked in our Clinical programs count towards licensure.

We are moving forward with recruitment to this vacancy during the current COVID-19 pandemic.  STAND!’s staff are continuing to serve our clients and this role will work onsite. Our Clinicians work weekdays and some early evenings, to meet the needs of the children we serve.   

Required Qualifications

Fluent bilingual Spanish/English skills are required for this position and will be verified during the hiring process. The successful candidate for this position will have previous experience working with complex issues surrounding children and families who have been victims of abuse, neglect, family violence, or trauma. 

The ideal candidate will approach their work with our clients from a strengths-based perspective, and embody a trauma-informed, non-judgmental manner.   

The following is required:

Possession of one of the following professional licenses, either: valid license as a MFT; valid license as a CSW; or valid license as a Psychologist issued by the State of California Board of Medical Quality Assurance, Psychology Examining Committee.

Substitution for License: Possession of a MA in psychology or closely related behavioral science field from an accredited college or university, and registration with the BBS as an AMFT or ACSW is acceptable. As a condition of continued employment, incumbents qualifying under this substitution pattern must complete the training and experience requirements necessary to  obtain licensure with the time periods prescribed by the governing bodies administering the issuance of these licenses.    

The successful candidate for this position will have had a minimum of 2 years’ recent experience providing therapeutic services to children.

 Preferred Qualifications

· Knowledge of DSM V diagnostic criteria 

· Training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent Child Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Nurturing Parenting, or EMDR. Previous experience working with clients using these modalities would be beneficial 

· Knowledge of resources in Contra Costa County.

These positions are part time, shifts are scheduled Monday-Friday between 8:00 AM- 6:30 PM with some Saturdays as needed.

Partnerships for Trauma Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses, persecution related to identity and beliefs, and forced displacement resulting from war, torture, gender-based, criminal and other forms of interpersonal violence. We provide psychological, psychosocial and psychiatric care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world; expand multidisciplinary clinical capacity to serve highly diverse international populations; conduct community outreach, support and training; and advocate for policies to prevent trauma and re-traumatization among international survivors of violence.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic nonprofit organization working at the juncture of global mental health and human rights. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary client care team, the Supervising Psychotherapist will provide psychological and psychosocial care for international survivors of human rights abuses, providing individual, family and group psychotherapy and case management for refugees and asylum seekers with the support of mental health interpreters. The Supervising Psychotherapist will participate in the development and implementation of client care, and provide clinical supervision, training and mentorship for direct service team members and clinical interns. This position also conducts outreach and capacity-building activities with partners and providers in the community and engages in new initiatives and programming needs as they arise.

PTR’s philosophy of healing from interpersonal trauma is relationally and humanistically-oriented and grounded in relationship- and attachment-based approaches to care. From a globally sensitive and flexible perspective which focuses on client priorities, PTR offers free short and long-term care which values depth, meaning and relationship.

Due to public health & safety considerations during the Covid-19 pandemic, PTR has been operating remotely since the spring of 2020. The Supervising Psychotherapist will work remotely until PTR returns to in-person work, at which time they would need to be located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The roles and responsibilities of the Supervising Psychotherapist will include the following:

Direct Client Care (60%)


  • Provide culturally and contextually responsive, trauma-informed and relationally-oriented individual, family and group psychotherapy for asylum seekers and refugees, in close collaboration with mental health interpreters.

  • Participate in the multidisciplinary client care team and help achieve direct service goals. Support overall client care, collaborating with psychological, psychosocial, psychiatric and community outreach team members.

  • Complete intake assessments and develop psychological and psychosocial goals and priorities in collaboration with clients. Conduct follow-up assessments and monitor client progress and developing needs and circumstances at 6-month intervals.

  • Provide clinical case management and advocacy support, including assistance with connecting clients to community resources to address varied medical, legal, social, economic, employment and educational needs.

  • Collaborate with legal representatives, provide psychological evaluations for asylum claims & testify in Immigration Court. Accompany clients to asylum interviews & court hearings as needed.

  • Complete case notes, documentation and data collection in Salesforce electronic client charting system as per agency guidelines and procedures.

  • Participate in client care and programmatic team meetings, consultation and supervision.

Clinical Supervision & Training (20%)


  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship & guidance for direct service staff and clinical interns, with attention to provider wellbeing & the impacts of secondary trauma & burnout.

  • • Participate in the recruitment & selection of clinical staff & interns with emphasis on global diversity & inclusion.

  • • Participate in & contribute to internal clinical training, professional development & workplace wellbeing activities.

Community Collaboration & Training (10%)


  • Represent PTR to community members, partners and organizations through external presentations and capacity-building activities.

  • Help design and implement culturally responsive trauma-informed training for partners and providers regarding the mental health and wellness needs of asylum seekers and refugees.

  • Help develop & sustain collaborative relationships with partners & providers in the community.

Other Responsibilities (10%)


  • Engage in new initiatives & partnerships & identify opportunities for program development.

  • Inform PTR management team about clinical care and training activities and outcomes.

  • Complete data reporting and administrative duties.

  • Participate in organization-wide activities and meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education & Experience


  • Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW), Counseling Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy (MA, MS).

  • Licensed as a mental health provider in the state of California (LCSW, LMFT), or able to obtain licensure in CA in 2021 if licensed in another state.

  • 3+ years of experience providing trauma-informed psychological care for diverse and underserved populations including immigrants.

  • 2+ years post-licensure of experience providing clinical supervision.

  • Experience with & interest in humanistic & relationally-oriented approaches to care.

  • Experience and interest in providing relationally-oriented clinical supervision and mentorship.

  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Experience


  • Experience working with refugees and/or asylum seekers.

  • Experience working in different languages and/or with in-person interpreters.

  • International work, study and/or living experience.

  • Experience conducting psychological evaluations for asylum claims.

  • Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English, with Spanish, Mam & Tigrinya highly desirable.

Completion of a Master’s Degree in a clinical program (social work or counseling) that is regionally accredited and that is primarily oriented to mental health service delivery. Full licensure in the State of Texas (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) as well as acquisition and maintenance of that license. As evidenced by previous work experience, academic background, and in-service or other training, the LMHP shall demonstrate a working knowledge of: diagnosing and treating mental health disorders. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Maintain a current driver’s license and maintain current insurance.


Must be flexible to see clients in home, school, office and via telehealth.


Will consider clinicians who are available for part-time hours on a contract basis.

Performance Objectives:



  • Evaluate, order and oversee physical therapy treatment programs for patients in an integrated setting

Education & Experience:



  • Minimum Master's of Physical Therapy degree required

  • 1 year of physical therapy practice preferred

  • South Carolina Physical Therapy license in good standing required

  • Pelvic floor rehabilitation training preferred

SUMMARY


The goals of the Mobile Therapist are to provide individual and family therapy for children, youth, young adults, and their families in settings other than a traditional office, including, but not limited to, home, community, school, or activity center. The MT assesses strengths and therapeutic needs of the child and family. The MT ensures that the child, youth, or young adult participates in treatment and that parents are involved in treatment planning, efforts, and meetings as appropriate. The MT develops and revises the individual treatment plan (ITP), assists with crisis stabilization, and assists with addressing problems the child, youth, or young adult have encountered. MT may participate in treatment team meetings as needed. MT completes required clinical Medical Assistance documentation. The Mobile Therapist should have the ability to resolve crisis and conflict situations and develop positive relationships with clients.


In addition to the details and requirements for the employee listed below, Folium, Inc. expects the employee to be committed to incorporating principles of trauma-informed care in all areas of service delivery. Commitment to these principles in trauma treatment will be required through attendance in training and the use of identified evidence-based practices. Trauma-informed care includes cultural sensitivity and emphasizes a safe and respectful environment for all clients and staff.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Provide assessment of strengths and therapeutic needs of the child and family. Active listening, motivational interviewing, and exchanging information with the child and family are critical elements of the assessment.

  • Provide child-centered, family-focused, individual and family psychotherapy, as agreed upon by the therapist and family. Utilize a strengths-based approach in addressing defined problems.

  • Provide therapy in formats that vary according to the individualized needs of the child. Formats may include sessions with the child individually, the entire nuclear family, the family and a community resource person (minister, scoutmaster, mentor, or other), or subsystems of any of the above, as clinically indicated and agreed upon.

  • Ensure that each child participates in his/her own treatment and that the family or other caretakers participate in an on-going manner as partners in treatment.

  • Develop an individualized treatment plan for each client that includes social, emotional, and behavioral objectives and goals, and assist in implementing a behavioral intervention plan.

  • Completes progress notes, treatment updates, and all other forms of required clinical documentation. Document client activities and progress for every period of service. Prepare professionally written summaries and documents describing a client’s behavior and progress in the achievement of treatment plan goals.

  • Collaborate with the family, case manager, and other involved professionals in determining the need for delivery of special services, such as psychological testing, medication assessment, or family support services. Collaborate with child, family, and all others in developing a plan to deliver these special services, designing a 24-hour crisis plan, and providing unified services and continuity of care to the child and family.

  • Develop cooperative relationships with community agencies that will facilitate treatment services provided to all clients.

  • Attends both individual and group supervision.

  • An individual who provides mobile therapy services will complete at least 16 hours of training annually that is approved by the PA Department of Human Services as outlined in the individual training plan.

  • Work as a positive team member supporting the team’s mission and goals, consistently working in a trusting and cooperative manner with fellow team members, and supporting the team’s common operating approach.

  • Accepts professional responsibility and serves as a role model for positive, pro-social behavior; modeling respect, responsibility, integrity, empathy, impulse control, emotional self-awareness, and professional boundaries.

  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by attending all required meetings, training, and organizational training.

  • The candidate will have to complete and maintain certification of ESPI training. ESPI techniques are only used in compliance with Folium policy and procedure and within guidelines established by third-party experts in the proper and legal use of ESPI.

  • Maintain an active valid driver’s license issued by the state in which they reside and must immediately notify their supervisor or Human Resources if their license is suspended or revoked for any reason.

  • May perform other special projects or duties as requested by the clinical or administrative supervisor.


SKILLS
Must utilize sound clinical interventions and counseling skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to develop effective and meaningful relationships with clients. Must be able to remain calm in a crisis, identify underlying causes of problem situations, resolve conflicts, and de-escalate potentially explosive situations. Must be a team player.


EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE BACKGROUND
Qualifications must meet one of the following:


1. Licensed in Pennsylvania as a psychologist, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or clinical social worker.


2. Licensed in Pennsylvania as a social worker or a behavior specialist AND have a graduate degree that required a clinical or mental health direct service practicum from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or have an equivalent degree from a foreign college university.


3. Have one-year minimum full-time experience in providing mental health direct services to children, youth, or young adults AND a graduate degree with at least nine credits specific to clinical practice in psychology, social work, or counseling from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or have an equivalent degree from a foreign college university.


4. Completed a clinical or mental health direct service practicum AND have a graduate degree with at least nine credits specific to clinical practice in psychology, social work, education, counseling, or a related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or have an equivalent degree from a foreign college university.


The Mobile Therapist will have an updated Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance, Act 34 Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Background Check, and Act 31 CPSL Mandated Reporter Training before working alone with a child.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Work settings can include but are not limited to, school buildings, home, community, church, activity centers, or extended or kinship family home. Working conditions during the summer program and recreational programs may involve physical activities. Clientele may at times be verbally or physically abusive.
