Responsibilities



  • Prepare engaging exercises and activities to use during speech sessions with patients

  • Conduct standardized and alternative assessments and diagnose communication disorders

  • Provide counseling and consultations for new patients

  • Create goals and objectives for patients to work toward and identify areas of progress and challenges

  • Oversee speech-language pathology assistants 

  • Review the patient's file prior to their appointment and have a clear understanding of the challenge to be addressed

  • Attend continuing education courses and work to advance personal knowledge and experience within the field

  • Clinical Documentation and report writing


Qualifications



  • Proficiency in computer software commonly used for documentation and report preparation

  • Master's degree in speech-language pathology is required

  • Licensed to practice in California or eligible to apply for license

  • ASHA CCC's or STONG CF candidates are encouraged to apply

  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to HIPAA legislation and other patient privacy laws

  • Experience working with sensitive and personal patient records and information

  • Physical endurance and the ability to lift 60 lbs.

  • A friendly and professional demeanor is required when explaining procedures and processes to patients

  • Accountability and attention to detail is essential when handling and documenting important medical information

Looking for a reliable, creative, flexible and organized Speech Language Pathologist (CCC) or Clinical Fellow to provide services to a diverse caseload of both children and adults. This would include students (Preschool-3rd Grade) at a school in Southeast DC, as well as adults and children at the office in downtown DC (1331 H st. NW). Types of disabilities are mild to moderate. The right candidate would be a self-starter, comfortable working with other professionals and parents, and have excellent problem-solving skills. This is a contract position that would begin at 15 hours a week and increase to more depending on the clinician’s performance and level of independence.


The Speech Pathologist will:

• Select evaluation and treatment methods appropriate to the diagnosis, age group and patients physical and emotional status and formulates appropriate treatment plans.

•Implementing screenings and performing evaluations.

Required:

  • Developing treatment plans that are strength-based as well as child and family-centered

  • Ensuring evaluations, treatment plans and service delivery are aligned with state, and federal guidelines

  • Assisting and guiding colleagues in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays/disorders

  • Completing treatment notes and progress reports in timely manner and according to clinic policy

  • Documenting all aspects of work including service log in accordance with state guidelines

  • Communicating and coordinating with team members including caregiver and other therapists

  • Designing and conducting trainings for parents and families

  • Maintaining an inventory of materials, assessments, and supplies

  • Maintaining appropriate, confidential, records and provide timely reports

  • Keeping abreast of best practices in speech and language therapy and language development

  • Adhering to all clinic and cooperative health and safety polices including all precautions

The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates and provides family oriented services to the home health patient with oral-motor and/or communication disorders secondary to developmental delays, neurological, musculoskeletal, and cardio-pulmonary impairments; as well as traumatic injuries and swallowing disorders. This includes patient and caregiver education, discharge planning, and consultation to other professionals, clinics, or agencies.


Responsibilities:


  • Synthesis of knowledge related to anatomy, physiology, and pathology for effective evaluation and treatment of swallowing, communication and cognitive disorders.

  • Sound clinical judgment relating to the provision of speech language pathology services. Knowledge of federal and state regulations and professional guidelines as relates to delivery of speech-language pathology services.

  • Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with patients, families, community members, volunteers and other staff.

  • Evaluates patients determining the level of patient’s psycho-social functioning.

  • Provide periodic progress records and report to assigned patient accounting to current policies and procedures.

  • Re-evaluate patient’s progress during treatment at appropriate intervals recommend, acquire, and modify necessary adaptive equipment to augment patient’s independent.

  • Planning Discharge.

  • Educate patients and/or families about proper safe use and recommend methods for installation of adaptive equipment.
