As a Survey Crew Chief you will be responsible for the for the daily field operations of a one or two person field crew, utilizing robotic total stations and gnss equipment on a variety of surveying projects including boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, oil and gas surveys and construction layout.


An interested candidate should have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and 5 years experience in land surveying or closely related field of which 2 years are in the position of Crew Chief. The Crew Chief should have the ability to work independently with the latest surveying technologies and be willing to do some regional travel to complete the variety of projects that BA Land Professionals' clients trust our firm with.

  • Supervise and run survey crew operations

  • Perform ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Plat of Highways, Route

  • Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Construction Staking and Transportation projects 

  • Ability to communicate with members of the general public as well as coworkers.

Job Title: Surveyor Supervisor- (Professional Land Surveyor)
Assigned Work Site: Centennial, Colorado - Antarctica
Employment Type: Full Time


Summary: This is a full time position based in Centennial, Colorado. Provide surveying/field engineering support of all USAP surveying/field engineering activities in support of construction, maintenance projects, science projects and all airfields in Antarctica.
Deploys to Antarctica during the Austral summer.


GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):



  • Responsible for design, layout of Williams Field Skyways and Phoenix Runway, including the upkeep of airfield NAVAIDS and flagging of road systems.

  • Coordinate with Air Traffic Control Contractor on obtaining information for Airfield Approach Plates and Ground Control Approach Surveys (GCA) for ALL airfields.

  • Report to Airfield Manager the status of all airfields.

  • Provides surveying support to various science groups/field camps as needed.

  • Provides surveying/field engineering support, including surveying layouts of buildings, construction/earthwork projects, topographic projects and Ice Shelf projects.

  • Provides final updated topographic and site drawings to Operations Manager and other pertinent managers and project engineers.

  • Keeps the Operations Manager and Area Directorates, informed of the status of surveying/field engineering activities, and assists other engineers in the gathering of engineering data.

  • Coordinates with Project Engineers and Operations Manager or designee on Field engineering activities relating to construction/site design.

  • Supervises surveyor and assistants from the operations department.

  • Is required to work outside on various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions.

  • Performs other duties as required.


REQUIREMENTS:



  • High school diploma required. AA degree in surveying preferred.

  • Professional Land Surveyor License (PLS)

  • Survey data collection programs – Trimble TSC3/Access software.

  • AutoCAD C3D 2017 and or Carlson Survey 2017 software.

  • Trimble Business Center software preferred.

  • Global Mapper software preferred.

  • Trimble R8 & R10 GNSS survey system/Geomatics GPS software.

  • Seven years of responsible field engineering/surveying experience related to the construction of facilities and systems.

  • Proficiency in the use of data collectors and GNSS equipment (RTK and Static) is required. Be able to complete a project from "Field to Finish".

  • Knowledge of sea ice dynamics and properties is preferred.

  • Interacts with National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, in a professional and tactful manner.

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.

  • Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy- picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.

Party Chief. Entry Level Party Chiefs are welcome to apply. This position will be mentored by a

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


·         Traveling to various field project sites;

·         Management and coordination of field crew(s).


·         Client acquisition, management, and coordination.


·         Proficiency with robotic total station, total station, GPS, with the willingness and ability to train others.


·         Coordination of equipment maintenance and calibration.


·         Familiar with 3D scanning.


·         Bid document preparation and professional delivery.


·         Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Currently looking for experienced individuals to supervise, coordinate and participate in the work of the crew responsible for providing surveying activities and services including interpreting plans and maps, calculating elevations, curves, angles and cross sections and field survey collection; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to current projects.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for providing technical survey services within projects; recommend goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient services.

  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of lower level staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.

  • Survey and staking on construction, boundary, GPS, mapping projects.

  • Create and convert electronic survey files into appropriate formats for various computer-aided drawing programs; maintain related records of files.

  • Read, research, review and interpret various plans, maps, deeds and other documents to determine accurate survey points; obtain as-built information for construction projects to validate final grades; calculate and compare project data with plans, specifications and contracts;;check accuracy of plats and deeds by taking additional field measurements or by computations.

  • Limited travel to remote sites.

  • Setup and operate a variety of survey equipment to include but not limited to programmable calculators, computers, levels, bush axes, hammers, tacks, rebar, triangles, compasses, data collectors, GPS equipment, and motor vehicles.

  • Perform a variety of office surveying duties including calculating survey data such as elevations, curve data, angles, boundaries, cross sections and areas.

  • Perform minor CAD operations typically involving the plotting, adjusting, and labeling of collected field survey data.

  • Assist in clearing and preparing the area or site where survey activities are scheduled including cutting brush and moving manhole covers; inspect property before surveying.

  • Compile, calculate, review and input survey data for the state Geodetic system; transfer instrument data to computer system.

  • Respond to and assist the general public, engineers and contractors with questions and complaints regarding surveying activities.


Minimum Qualifications:


 



  • Experienced or individuals with background in outdoor work

  • Responsible experience in technical field survey work, including one year of lead supervisory responsibility.

  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a degree/certification in surveying/engineering technology or a related field.

  • Valid driver's License

As a Land Surveyor you will report directly to the divisional A&E Department Manager. A Land Surveyor will:



  • Take detailed measurements, notes and pictures of the proposed telecommunications network construction locations, cable routes, and equipment sites.

  • Topographic & Boundary Surveys

  • ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys

  • Easement, Boundary Plats, & Legal Description

  • Architectural Surveys

  • Set up & operate GPS equipment, Trimble robotic, & total station

  • Construction Stake-outs

  • Consults with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, and drafting standards.

  • Surveyor will be responsible for client and customer contact and may be required to obtain permission to visit the sites.
