Employees are responsible for providing outstanding customer service with constant care and attention to detail. Customer service in a fast, accurate, knowledgeable, and friendly manner. We have long term part time and full time positions available. We are a Certified Organic Ice Cream and Bay Area Green Business Certified as well.

Smitten Ice Cream is searching for a Facilities Technician focused on preventative and maintenance repairs for our store fleet, equipment, and central kitchen. This position works 80% in the field, 20% managing relationships with contractors and vendors and overseeing the budget. 

Responsibilities


  • Partner with Operations team to assess needs for shop maintenance and repairs and perform both preventative and regular maintenance on all assigned areas, placing special focus on minimizing system downtime

  • Preventative and repair tasks, including HVAC systems, store/kitchen equipment, refrigeration, plumbing, and physical locations

  • Own the communication/coordination between General Managers and contractors on ETAs, parts & repairs, proposals and repair completion follow-up 

  • Educate staff on how to properly maintain equipment in good working order

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of our shops so that equipment, janitorial, fire safety, and general maintenance are implemented in a manner consistent with policies and procedures

  • Routinely visit our locations to ensure job completion, a clean environment, and cost-effective operation 

  • Operate and maintain delivery vehicles

  • Develop predictive and preventative maintenance plans and implement them to ensure decrease in repairs and breakdowns

  • Monitor equipment inventory and place orders when necessary

  • Monitor expenses and control the budget for maintenance

  • Manage relationships with Landlords, property owners, contractors and service providers

  • Keep maintenance logs and report on daily activities

Requirements


  • 2+ years experience in facility operations and maintenance/repair

  • Broad Knowledge of maintenance strategies and tactics

  • General mechanical knowledge for building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and an understanding of common maintenance issues and their fixes

  • Weekend availability will be required

Job responsibilities include:

· manufacturing ice cream

· monitoring inventory

· maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen/facility

Duties include:

· washing and sterilizing equipment/containers

· lifting and pouring ingredients (as much as 50 pounds)

· accurately measuring ingredients

· emulsifying (mixing) buckets of ice cream milk with a large wand mixer

· learning to operate an ice cream batch freezer (not complicated)

· filling containers with the frozen product

· walking frozen containers into freezer

· Keeping inventory of stock

· printing labels

· packaging pints in cases for delivery

· basic clean-up and organizing.

Qualifications

· Work in food manufacturing is a plus but not necessary   · (experience in manufacturing including warehouse or assembly will be considered a transferrable skill)  

· Ability to read and follow recipes

· Basic computer skills to be able to print labels, recipes, etc. Working knowledge of Excel program to monitor inventory a plus.

· Basic math skills and ability to accurately measure and read different scale measurements

· Accurately pick pints and cases for eCommerce and Wholesale orders in temperatures that can get as low as -20 degrees


· Receive ice cream and other items and provide supervisor with paperwork


· Assist in building of pallets of material for shipping / storage


· Help maintain a clean and organized freezer and warehouse


· Assist in counts and reconciliation of inventory


· Comply with food safety policies and procedures


Qualifications:


· Must be able to withstand working inside a freezer that has temps as cold as -20 degrees


· Must be able to safely work with dry ice


· Must be able to bend and safely lift up to 70 lbs


· Self-motivation and willingness to learn

·       Welding – Must be able to arc and heli arc weld.

·       Refrigeration – Should include reciprocating ammonia compressors, screw ammonia compressors, condensers, liquid ammonia pumps, evaporators, water pumps, chillers and heat exchangers.


·       Boilers – Should be familiar with the operation of steam fired boilers.


·       Pneumatics & Hydraulics – Should possess the ability to troubleshoot both pneumatic and hydraulic systems to include piping, compressors, pumps, control valves and actuators.


·       PLC’s – Should include experience with Allen Bradley Software including RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, Factory Talk View, Drive Tools, etc.


·       Regulatory – Should be familiar with and able to maintain regulatory programs such as OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP), and safety programs such as Lockout Tagout (LOTO).


·       CMMS – Should have experience with a Computer Maintenance Management Software (Express Maintenance, SAP, etc.) used to plan, manage and track equipment and facility Preventative Maintenance (PM) and work order (WO) functions.


 


Successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to: Repair and maintain mechanical, air, electrical, and hydraulic components of various equipment such as processing,filling and material handling equipment, follow blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications; using hand tools, power tools, welders, and precision measuring instruments. Successful applicant will be required to work with and understand boilers, refrigeration, hydraulic, air, electrical, and other systems in the plant.
