Mid-America College of Funeral Service, in Jeffersonville, Indiana (Louisville, KY) is seeking a full time Funeral Service Instructor to teach in the areas including: Funeral Service History, Funeral Service Merchandising, Funeral Service Counseling, Funeral Directing, Cremation, Business Mortuary Law, Business Law and/administrative duties.


POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Funeral Service Instructor is responsible for providing and sustaining an effective learning environment for every student through well- prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation and feedback on student progress, and support of academic success for all students.


REPORTS TO:The Instructor works under the guidance and supervision of the Academic Dean/College President.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Develops the syllabus for each course assigned based on MACFS and Pierce Mortuary College criteria. The syllabus is to include learning objectives expressed in behavioral terms.

  • Distributes the syllabus to the Academic Dean, the Campus President and to each student at the first scheduled class session.

  • Teaches the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relates the instruction to careers and employer expectations.

  • Prepare and grades examinations based upon course objectives and published exam schedule and returns all assignments in a timely manner.

  • Implements evaluation for outcomes assessment and achieves established results while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction.

  • Works creatively in all classes taught to discourage student withdrawal and maintain satisfactory retention.

  • Begin and end each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction.

  • Provide tutorial assistance and academic advising to all students when needed.

  • Leaves the classroom or laboratory clean, organized, and ready for the next user.

  • Submits, at the designated time, final grades for all students on the class roster.

  • Accurately maintains attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, maintains a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and posted electronically at the end of the term.

  • Calls all students who are absent and submits written reports of pertinent information to the Academic Dean or Campus President in Campus Dean’s absence.

  • Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings, graduation and other college events as required by the College.

  • Dresses professionally in accordance with faculty dress code.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Science required. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university. Must acquire master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university within five years of their initial appointment date.

  • Graduate of an institution of funeral service education accredited by the American Board (ABFSE).

  • Must hold a current and valid state licenses as a funeral director and Embalmer.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a licensed funeral director and 2 years’ experience as an active embalmer is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds and commitment to a culturally diverse work environment.


PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:



  • Master’s degree preferred. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or the ability to earn a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university within five years of their initial appointment date.

  • Teaching experience preferred.

  • Two years’ experience.

  • Knowledgeable with Financial Aid Regulations and process preferred.

  • Manage and supervise all federal, state, private and institutional financial aid processed through the Financial Aid Offices at the Pierce College Locations. Monitor federal and state regulatory updates, training manuals, audits, institutional reports, professional aid literature, etc. (e.g., Federal Register, NASFAA and others as needed.)


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.

  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs.

  • Teaching and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to teach and control the behavior of students.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:



  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Position Summary


Family Service Directors serve families with care and compassion, educating them through the process of making informed decisions for At-Need Funeral products and services.


Family Service Directors will demonstrate by example, CFCS’ Core Values–Share the Journey, Serve with Care, and Make It Happen–in all their dealings with families, staff, and internal/external contacts.


Reporting to the Location Manager, Family Service Directors interact with families, Funeral Assistants, Preparation Room staff, and many other internal/external personnel/departments.


Qualifications


Education and Experience


· College degree preferred, and/or 2-4 years in a customer service role requiring direct contact with the public (both on the telephone and face-to-face)


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


· Knowledge of the Catholic faith, rituals, and traditions


· Understanding of the Order of Christian Funerals


· Able to conduct oneself with a “Family First” approach


· Working knowledge of funeral services, ceremonies, and case management


· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and telephone skills


· Ability to multi-task and manage several funeral cases at the same time


· Able to coordinate with many internal departments and external providers


· Ability to work and make decisions under pressure and tight deadlines


· Highly organized, detail oriented, and excellent time management skills


· Proficient in the use of computers, software, and technology


· Bilingual English/Spanish required


Licenses and Certifications


· Valid funeral director license and/or the ability to obtain a license in the state of practice, if applicable


· Valid state issued driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of insurance is required


Physical Requirements


· Ability to lift or move objects weighing between 75-100 lbs.


· Ability to push and pull up to 300 lbs. with a wheeled cart

POSITION OVERVIEW: Supervise all federal, state, private and institutional financial aid processed through the Financial Aid Offices at the Pierce College Locations. Monitor federal and state regulatory updates, training manuals, audits, institutional reports, professional aid literature, etc. (e.g., Federal Register, NASFAA and others as needed.) MUST HAVE ACCOUNTING/BOOKKEEPING OR COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID EXPERIENCE


 


RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide overall direction for interpretation and implementation of federal, state and institutional policies; and ensure that internal processing procedures are developed to meet regulatory guidelines and requirements.

ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT & RETENTION: Provide key assistance with the attraction and retention of all students who rely on financial aid in order to access the Pierce College educational programs. Develop policies and strategies for utilizing aid resources that assist the institution in meeting its optimal enrollment and retention goals. Proactively assist the campus Admissions and the academic departments in their recruitment activities by providing financial aid award packages for the prospective students in a timely way; counsel current and prospective students and their families about the costs of attendance, program eligibility via needs analysis and diverse academic criteria. Ensure staff at the Pierce Colleges inform students and families about application procedures, award delivery time frames, payment plan options, long term debt management


 


CUSTOMER RELATIONS: Develop financial aid materials (e.g. brochures and web pages) that are readily understandable and inform and educate current and prospective students about financial aid opportunities, regulations, and processes. Assure exceptional customer service to all constituents, especially students, through prompt responses to all correspondence (e.g., letters, email, surveys, reports, budget forms) and telephone inquiries.


 


Job Requirements


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 to 5 years progressive experience in Financial Aid or a related area, including supervisory responsibility preferred. Knowledge of federal and state regulatory guidelines and requirements, etc. Experience with need analysis, counseling and packaging financial aid. Summary/Objective


The Family Service Counselor provides advice to bereaved families and help them make burial arrangements for their departed loved ones. They maintain positive communications with client families to answer questions regarding the burial process and often use their counseling expertise to help overwhelmed members cope with the loss. Family service counselors also protect the confidentiality of clients' information.


  • We are hiring two Family Service Counselors at this location.

The Family Service Counselor duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and in adherence to company policies and procedures.

At Pierce Mortuary Colleges (PMC), we offer online and on-campus degree programs to help students reach their educational goals. This position reports directly to the PMC Chief Operation Officer.


We are now looking to recruit a driven individual with a background in LMS administration, Instructional Design, Course Development, and Institutional Effectiveness.


 


ROLE AND EXPECTATIONS:


This role is responsible for the integrated planning, organizing, and coordinating of activities required for campus-wide assessment and institutional effectiveness. Assisting in the development and implementation of online and on-campus education across Pierce Mortuary Colleges. Design and develop online, web-enhanced/online and face to face courses in collaboration with the college presidents and instructors. Train staff and faculty in the academic development and delivery of online and on-ground courses and programs. Overseeing the college’s Learning Management System (LMS) application and environment. This role will provide and work with vendors regarding technical support required to maintain and support the Moodle Learning Environment (MLE) ensuring a consistent student and faculty experience.


 


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Management responsibility for and oversight of all institutional assessment, and accreditation reporting functions in order to facilitate planning, forecasting, accountability, program evaluation, assessment, and related decisions that influence academic and institutional effectiveness.

  • Create systems for effective data collection and information flow between departments to enhance college-wide data collection. Designing and producing strategic and key performance indicators, benchmarks, peer analysis, projections, forecasting, and accountability.

  • Maintain advanced knowledge of ABFSE accreditation policies and standards relating to institutional effectiveness and student achievement.

  • Implement and advance academic standards of assessment in partnership with all colleges through annual program reviews, assessment and rubrics, training and guidance on assessment best practices, and assessment reporting processes.

  • Provide professional development of faculty and staff.

  • Instructional Design – Using research-proven best practices, design courses and course templates for the production of online courses, instructor-guided and instructor-driven online courses.

  • Course Development – Assist with the development of online courses, instructor-guided and instructor-driven online courses and course materials in conjunction with SMEs where necessary.

  • Quality Checks – Perform quality checks to ensure new and existing DL courses are in compliance with quality assurance, but not limited to, pedagogy, instructional design, use of technology, distribution, course and content management, and resource deployment.

  • Partner with all campus administrators and Distance Learning Coordinators to support the integration of other related applications;

  • Consult with DL faculty and other campus users of the LMS environment to support the integration and development of new features and customizations for the Moodle LMS application;

  • Communicate maintenance windows and issue resolution to campus community;

  • Respond to inquiries and requests from users for Moodle-related assistance as escalated through the support process;

  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor’s Degree: Degree related to higher education, assessments, management, distance learning, instructional design and development, or computer science.

  • Previous experience with Institutional Effectiveness

  • Demonstrated experience with different Moodle solutions and knowledge of relevant requirements.

  • Excellent written English including grammar and spelling and good verbal communication skills

  • An eye for good aesthetic design.
