Job Description


We are seeking a food prepper, dishwasher and food server.  We have (3) positions open.


Prep Cook Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Follow the executive chef’s prep list to plan daily work

  • Label ingredients and food items and stock pantry and refrigerator shelves in an organized manner

  • Properly store food items in designated containers

  • Sanitize work areas and equipment, wash dishes, take out trash

  • Measure seasonings, condiments, and ingredients for use in cooking

  • Portion and wrap food

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking

  • Wash, peel, and chop fruits and vegetables

  • Clean and cut or grind meat, fish, poultry, and shellfish

  • Place food in warming trays or refrigerated storage as appropriate

  • Carry food items and utensils to food stations

  • Use manual and electric equipment for food preparation

  • Perform basic cooking tasks such as stirring, straining, and parboiling food and reducing sauces

  • Package take out foods

  • Prepare beverages including soft drinks, coffee, and tea

  • Hand out prepared dishes to servers for delivery to customers

  • Maintain records of quantities of foods and ingredients used

  • Update supervisors when stock of food items or supplies are low

  • Inform managers about broken or malfunctioning equipment

  • Comply with food safety and sanitation guidelines


Prep Cook Requirements and Qualifications:



  • Background as a prep cook or related experience

  • Availability for early morning shifts

  • Manual dexterity to ensure proper operation of kitchen utensils and cutting tools

  • Effective communication skills

  • Proficient in English

  • Adept at performing tasks well in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to stand through duration of shift

Summary


Food for Thought seeks a skilled and motivated Cook II (Mid-Level Cook) to join the Catering Group’s Production/Prep Team.


What Does That Really Mean?



  • Displays accelerated skills and leads by example in equipment use, sanitation, portion accuracy, labeling, food storage, complex recipe execution, product consistency, basic butchery, hot and cold sauce preparation·

  • Accurately and efficiently produces for all hot station, butcher and hot sauce prep lists. Prepares all product in accordance with FFT standards or as specified by the Chef. [Prep Lists: Hot Garnish, Hot HDV, Hot Line, Hot Veg, Hot Starch, Hot Sauce, Cold Sauce)

  • Is able to accurately and efficiently produce for all cold station prep lists. Prepares all product accordance FFT standards or as specified by the Chef. [Prep Lists: Wet pack, Dry Pack, Cold Garnish, Cold HDV) List actual duties knife skills, portion accuracy, label store properly, communicate to ask questions, assists with other lists as needed

  • Visually inspects, selects and uses only food items of the highest quality in the preparation of all menu items

  • Checks and controls the proper storage of product and portion control

  • Works efficiently and maintains a clean orderly station

  • Completes all opening and closing tasks

  • Completes prep lists in allotted time frame

  • Ensures all equipment in working areas is clean and in proper working condition

  • Trains incoming production staff

  • Assists with producing accurate inventory

  • Minimizes waste. Distributes waste products properly (garbage, compost, recycling)
