We, at CodeLinkd, strongly believe that coding can be used for more than just creating applications. We are extremely passionate about bringing computer science to kids from a very early age, tapping into their endless creativity and helping them create beautiful and responsible code. With exposure to smartphones from their toddler years, kids have a natural interest in computers. To have the ability to harvest that interest and transform it into learning is a huge opportunity.

Learning to code should be compared to learning a new language or a musical instrument. It helps increase perseverance, improves memory, teaches patience, and nurtures creativity. It helps enhance their capacity to reason, solve problems thoughtfully and make effective decisions from a very early age. Coding helps sharpen the analytical and cognitive skills of kids. We strongly believe that we can help discover that hidden potential within kids and teach them how to approach real-world scenarios - all by teaching them how to code.

Coding is a basic life skill. We want these kids to explore careers in different fields where their hearts lie, be it medicine, automotive manufacturing, finance or arts and design - and be well-equipped to do so.

At CodeLinkd, we offer a variety of courses for kids of ages five and up. Our courses have a mix of coding, robotics, circuits, unplugged exercises, and other STEAM concepts.

About the Role: CodeLinkd Instructor

We are looking for a committed part-time instructor to complement our workforce of educators in the discipline of computer science & robotics. Specifically, these instructors will teach coding and robotics courses for kids from ages five to eleven in several community and cultural centers across the South Bay.

We also welcome applications from high school students that are looking for volunteering opportunities in computer science and robotics while assisting our lead instructors in these courses.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate:


  • Should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Should be passionate towards teaching kids with an ability to connect easily with kids and create a relationship of mutual trust. Prior teaching experience or at least experience interacting with kids is a huge plus!

  • Should be able to converse fluently in English

  • Should be familiar with computers well enough to be able to troubleshoot problems during class

  • Possess an understanding of basic coding concepts. A degree in computer science is not mandatory. Every CodeLinkd instructor will undergo training in order for them to get familiar with the course curriculum and concepts that will be taught in different courses.

  • Should be available during CodeLinkd class hours. CodeLinkd classes currently happen during after-school hours on weekdays and for a few hours on weekends.

  • Should be able to commute via their own mode of transport to different locations across the South Bay (such as Saratoga, Los Gatos, and San Jose)

  • Should be willing to undergo a test for tuberculosis and live scan. Most community and cultural centers require instructors to undergo both tests. CodeLinkd will reimburse any costs involved.

  • Should have strong moral values and discipline

  • Should possess valid work authorization - U.S. Citizen, Permanent Residence / Green Card, or H4-EAD. CodeLinkd does not currently offer sponsorship of visas.

Their responsibilities include:


  • Maintaining a tidy and orderly classroom

  • Presenting classes in a simple, straight forward, and comprehensive manner using visual/audio means that is easily understandable by kids

  • Leading courses independently. Several training opportunities and guidance will be provided to the candidate before taking on courses.

  • Making modifications to the standard curriculum as needed

  • Stimulating impromptu discussions and unplugged exercises during the class and ensuring student engagement

  • Tracking and Recording progress of each kid

  • Setting the pace of each class based upon kids' performances

  • Creating a relationship with kids' parents and interacting with them to collect and provide feedback

  • Creating and distributing content including notes for parents with a summary of class, screen capture of kids' projects, photos and videos taken during classes

  • Distributing class material (like laptops) to kids and collect them back

  • Enthusiastically contributing ideas towards the shaping and betterment of the master curriculum and bring creative ideas to the table

The ultimate goal is to cultivate kids' interest towards Coding & Robotics and be their dedicated ally throughout this process of learning and development.

ABOUT US

The mission of Tiny Techs Club is to encourage creativity in science and technology in children at the elementary and middle school levels using our unique curriculum in Robotics. We use LEGO’s, software, and fun themes to teach children fundamentals in mechanics, building, programming and problem solving.

We are based in the Bay Area, California and have expanded our team to Denver and Portland!


  • Hours are dependent on employee availability, but currently average a fluctuating 15 hours a week with flexibility to your needs.

  • Paid training is provided on a continuous basis.

  • Classes are 2 hours long and generally begin between 1:30 and 3:30 depending on the school.

  • Additional work duties, outside of the classroom, can be done remotely (from home) and include maintaining teaching equipment and preparing for classes. All work hours are tracked and logged by employees.

ABOUT YOU

You enjoy playing with LEGOs and teaching children in a professional, but fun manner. You are a responsible, energetic, and motivated self-starter with an aptitude for enriching and guiding children through problem solving and advanced concepts. You prefer a flexible schedule that works with you.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Teach an average of 2 to 5 classes weekly, usually 2 hours long, as per Tiny Techs Club’s curriculum.

The Bilingual Digital Literacy Instructor will be energetic and enthusiastic about providing quality digital literacy training to our learners and collaborating with team members to develop and improve digital literacy programs. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver Digital Literacy Training 


  • Complete and document in-person assessments of Russian-speaking individuals to determine computer skills and training needs. 

  • Follow established curriculum to provide small group training in Russian to help older adults learn and practice basic computer skills and using the Internet. 

  • Provide 1-on-1 assistance in Russian for older adult students to practice and improve use of technology and the Internet 

  • Complete post-training assessment to confirm basic computer skill was achieved.   

Community Support · Assist Program Manager in the orientation of new volunteers. 


  • Act as CTN Representative and liaison within the Russian-speaking populations of  El Bethel Terrace Apartments and Curry Senior Center.   

Service Delivery Coordination · Support evaluation efforts related to programs  


  • Attend planning meetings to assist with coordination of service delivery   

Data Management & Reporting 


  • Ensure that all setup/breakdown and instruction hours are reported for each shift 

  • Collect and report additional data about programs, services, and volunteers, as needed by CTN   

Public Relations 


  • Represent CTN at community-based events 

  • Use social media to share positive information about CTN programs       

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • 2 years of college/university-level study • One-year experience delivering tutoring or training to adults 

  • Bilingual in Russian/English required

This is an hourly, part-time position.

Summary:

San Francisco Waldorf High School seeks a part time math instructor with a deep knowledge of mathematics. We seek teachers with a passion for mathematics, a sense of humor and the belief that all students can understand algebra and geometry.

Responsibilities include:

This position teaches two math tracks (3 class periods + prep per week per track for a total of 6 teaching hours) for the remainder of this academic year (2019-2020). The classes could be Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, or Precalculus, depending on schedule and qualifications.

Position Description   

The after-school program, known as The Neighborhood, is open to Presidio Hill School students (TK-8th grade) from dismissal (between 2:45 and 3:30pm - staggered dismissal time) until 6pm. We seek to create a safe and fun space where the students can spend their afternoons engaged in free play, social growth, academic time, and enrichment opportunities (such as cooking, arts & crafts, group games, etc). We’re seeking someone to join a team of 4, a director and three teachers, who make up the after-school staff. General work hours would be approximately 2:30-6pm primarily with grades 3-8. In addition, there are some mandatory all day camp and evening childcare responsibilities in which you will be scheduled for longer shifts (generally 10-6pm). 

Primary Responsibilities  

~Supervise students in grades TK-8 in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.

~Develop positive relationships with the students and serve as a role model.

~Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural education and guidelines.

During the Neighborhood Program:  

~Assist grades 3-8 with homework during daily academic time. 

~Plan fun games, activities and projects that encompass the arts, science, cooking and recreation.  

~Help prepare and cleanup snack and activities.  

~Report to the After-School Enrichment Program (AEP) Director. The AEP Director may assign additional duties.   

During Camp Weeks/ All Day Childcare Days 

~Plan and lead fun games, activities and projects that encompass the arts, science, cooking, and recreation for grades TK-5. 

~Supervise students on daily field trips to local parks and museums.  

~Ensure all students are safe, being included and having fun!

Teachers typically teach one to two 1-hour after-school classes per day, on days of their choice. 

The main skills needed are: to appear reliably; to be able to safely manage classes of 5-15 children, ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade; to be enthusiastic about learning and teaching; and to be able to understand and teach a wide range of science topics at k-6 levels based on pre-written lesson plans (a formal science background is *not* required).

General Summary

Substitute Teachers at Early Bird assist in a variety of teaching and learning environments with infant and toddler age children. Rocklin's Tutoring Team is hiring for a calculus tutor who is experienced with common core math middle school and high school. We need physics and/or chemistry included in your skills. And when it comes to common core, the new Integrated math 3 is a must (it might be called something different in other school districts, but it is common core junior year high school usually. Also, you would teach the math section of the SAT the ACT. No high school student candidates please; you must be in college or already graduated. Availability is Mondays through Friday 3:00 - 8:00, but you do not need to be available all those hours. I am flexible, and we will have a conversation about the schedule that works for both of us, even if you can only do a couple days a week, that's fine too.

There will not be any at home prep. It's mostly homework help with a little bit of program creation, but we have all the materials accessible here, so it's not difficult. Students come to us with reserved times, and I keep the ratio to 3:1 or less. You must know your subject well without need of training and be capable to think on your feet because homework help means you never know what's coming. But if you know your subject, that is not a problem.

Some chemistry concepts you should be very familiar with are:

Redox Reactions

Acid/Base neutralizations

Physical versus chemical reactions

Balancing equations

Quantum numbers (very simplistic)

Ideal Gas Law

The pay is $15-$18 an hour, depending on tutoring experience. Please live nearby, (Rocklin, Roseville, etc) so getting here on time in traffic is not an issue. Sacramento could be too far, unless you leave early.

 

This is a chill and friendly and supportive environment for the students and tutors alike. You will have fun here, but students need to also show progress.
