Qualifications

Tutors must to be able to take initiative and work independently. At the same time, we expect tutors to collaborate with each other in order to develop and/or expand curricula. English tutors must be able to teach all levels of English through AP, and have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, vocabulary and idiom, as well as the ability to write and correct essays. Flexibility is key, as we often ask our English tutors to help students with History or other Humanities related subjects. Prior tutoring experience is preferred and a bachelor’s degree, or ongoing study towards a degree, is required. Experience tutoring History (World, US, Euro) and Government is highly desirable. Experience tutoring SAT, ACT, and SAT II is also highly desirable. All candidates will be given an assessment test in their subject prior to interviewing.

KIDS for the BAY Summer Camp

KIDS for the BAY is an environmental education organization now in our 28th year of operation. Campers learn to care for the natural environment and become environmental stewards. Team building activities help to develop a fun loving, connected and caring Summer Camp community of friends, scientists and environmentalists.Camp sessions are one week long (Monday-Friday) between the hours of 8:30 am and 4 pm and take place at various natural habitats around the Berkeley area, including Tilden Park, Strawberry Creek, and Berkeley Marina. All sessions of camp include special field trips to ocean beaches, the Exploratorium, China Camp State Park, the Aquarium of the Bay and more exciting destinations.Camp sessions are for Adventurers Campers age 5-7 and Explorers age 8-11. Camper Ambassadors, age 12 &13 help out with younger campers, and youth age 14 – 17 are Leaders in Training/Interns. Each week of camp is led and managed by Environmental Educators including year-round KftB Program Staff, Camp Leaders and Camp Assistant Leaders. Our camper-to-staff ratio is low, ensuring an enriching, safe, and positive camp experience. KftB also runs an after-care camp Nature Club from 4-5:30 pm.

Responsibilities

• Assist in leading hands-on nature, art, science, adventure, community-building and play activities

• Supervise campers during snack, lunch, and free play times

• Maintain a safe, respectful, positive camp environment and attend to campers’ individual needs

• Maintain positive, upbeat, and professional communication at all times.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Applicant must be 18 years of age by the first day of camp, June 15, 2020

• Previous camp or other teaching or child care experience

• Ability to walk and hike along trails while carrying light equipment, sit on the ground for circle times and play active games with campers

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Willingness to follow directions and work with a team of camp staff

Position Terms

Specific Duties & responsibilities


  • Create and facilitate engaging, project-based curriculum that is of high interest for Oakland elementary aged youth for 1-hour enrichment sessions.

  • Provide 1 hour daily academic session that assist elementary students with homework and support student’s academic success. 

  • Establish and maintain a physically and emotionally safe learning environment where meaningful relationships between students and themselves can take root and flourish 

  • Complete all administrative tasks on a daily and/or weekly basis including but not limited to student attendance, monthly reports, surveys, etc. 

  • Maintain a minimum class size of students throughout the year as defined by the Site Manager.

  • Accountable for contributing to high-quality programming by meeting the Oakland Leaf program quality standards

  • Participate in monthly mandatory staff meetings and trainings when scheduled

  • Develop students in your area of expertise to use newly formed skills as a medium to express themselves, make discoveries, challenge themselves, etc.

THE POSITION

  • Oversight and implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Vision and Structures, including:


    • Collaborating with school leaders, teachers and other staff and partners to identify and assess student needs, identify students not making adequate academic progress and ensure appropriate interventions.

    • Monitoring the efficacy of supports, services, interventions, and resource and staffing allocations to ensure they are based on need and resulting in increased access and outcomes for students.

    • The interaction between discipline processes and tiered supports

    • Providing professional development in tiered systems of support for socio-emotional, behavioral and academic programs.




  • Management of Student Services, Crises and Complaints


    • Serving as lead for responding to serious student and family crises and complaints and supports principals and other site admin in managing and navigating student and family issues as they arise

    • Coordinating services for Homeless and foster youth

    • Guiding, directing, and participating in serious discipline processes, including student suspensions and expulsions.

    • Oversight of attendance systems across sites with a focus on ensuring disproportionality is addressed

    • 504 Compliance and coordination of programs and services




  • Oversight of the Special Education Program Model including:


    • Ensuring continuous improvement and coordination of Special Education services and compliance for Students with IEPs

    • Providing training for special education staff regarding new legal mandates, best practices, etc.  

    • Reviewing caseloads with school leadership and district staff on a regular basis to ensure consistency, compliance, and maximization of resources throughout our schools.  

    • Overseeing the supervision, evaluation, hiring and training of certificated (school psychologist and teachers) and classified staff (paraeducators) in coordination with site administrators and CAO.  

    • Serving as an administrator at complex IEP meetings as needed




  • Team Management & Facilitation


    • Seating, convening, and facilitating various teams to support student services and special education programs. May include: MTSS, Special Education, and Attendance teams, and other teams as need is identified.

    • Leading and coordinating professional development for teams as appropriate to support use of data and best practice in service of all students.





  • Student Mental Health & Wellness: 


    • Oversight of counseling programs and supports from both internal and external partners




  • Compliance & Fiscal Stewardship


    • Providing leadership and vision to ensure compliance in matters relating to student discipline, alternative education, child welfare and attendance, guidance services, and school safety.  

    • Monitoring and ensuring LCPS compliance with IDEA, ADA, OCR, CRDC and federal and state regulations and ensures that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each student/family so that each child has the opportunity to achieve at a high level and be prepared for post-secondary success.

    • Management and monitoring of budget and fiscal resources related to student services programming, including from state/federal grants, for the purpose of ensuring that LCPS and program resources are efficiently and effectively utilized and to improve student achievement for all students. 




  • External Partner & Community Stakeholder Communication & Management


    • Managing external partnerships and contractors providing services (special education, counseling, etc.) for students and liaise with SELPA

    • Engaging in external community outreach and engagement in partnership with family engagement team, as needed, including support for enrollment processes



  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • At least 5-7 years of successful Special Education teaching, pupil services, and/or instructional leadership experience required

  • Experience working in urban education serving students of color from low-income backgrounds

  • MA in education or related field required; administrative credential, preferred

  • Appropriate CA credential either in Special Education or Pupil Services, required 

  • Supervisory & management experience, including coaching and evaluation of teachers, paraeducators, and other staff

  • Knowledge and experience of overseeing compliance with Special Education laws, MTSS and effective intervention and acceleration systems, and other populations of students disproportionality under-achieving and/or under-resourced or accessed.

  • Experience working in Oakland schools preferred; charter school experience, a plus,

  • EL Education or Linked Learning experience, a plus.

SUPERVISION

This position reports to: Chief Academic Officer (CAO). 

TIME COMMITMENT

This position is a full-time salaried exempt 12-month position that follows the 220-day school year and summer schedule. Includes approximately 5 weeks of paid holidays/breaks during the school year in addition to 10 days of vacation time during the summer. Start date is July 1, 2020 with some paid time in the spring to provide opportunities to engage with stakeholders and work with the leadership team prior to fully coming onboard as negotiated with CAO.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Bike Mechanic Educator repairs bicycles while educating the owner about the repair process. This position is supervised by the Lead Mechanic. Transportation to the job site is considered paid time and can be provided for staff in the East Bay.

Job description

The Teacher-Director leads the year-around afternoon program Monday through Friday, from 11:30 pm to 5:30 pm. They will direct a teaching staff of two to three teachers and work with children aged three to five. The afternoon program gives children the opportunity to participate in organized activities and a variety of curriculum projects, as well as to play in a relaxed, self-directed way. The program provides a balance between active and quiet play, as well as large and small group activities. The afternoon program philosophy reflects that of CCC--building community, inclusiveness, and creating a safe place for all to learn.


Main responsibilities and duties 


  • Develop a curriculum founded on play-based, social-emotional, creative, and anti-bias concepts. Work collaboratively with other Teacher-Directors and the Board of Directors on program management and design. 

  • Plan varied daily activities each week and prepare materials and equipment for the program. 

  • Supervise and engage children during the afternoon program in child-initiated and organized activities, encouraging peer interaction as well as helping with problem-solving and conflict resolution. 

  • Work in conjunction with morning Teacher-Directors to ensure mutual clean-up and sharing of classroom, i.e. consult with other Teacher-Directors about room organization, storage and clean-up responsibility. 

  • Supervise, train, give feedback to, and evaluate staff under one’s direct supervision. Direct afternoon staff regarding specific daily duties. 

  • Communicate with families about their children's needs and growth, and attend parent-teacher conferences. 

  • Attend monthly evening board meetings and staff meetings, as well as various school activities. 

 Qualifications


  • Must possess at least 15 semester units in Early Childhood Education, including at least 3 semester units in administration or staff relations. 

  • A Bachelor of Arts degree (or be in the process of completing such degree), and a minimum of 4 years of experience in the field (2 years teaching and 2 years administration). 

  • Must comply with all applicable requirements for “Day Care Center Directors” found in section 101215.1 of the California Code of Regulations.  

 Hours and compensation 


  • Hours range:  Weekdays 11:00 AM – 3:30 PM and 11:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Definition:

Under supervision of the Center Director, perform work of relative difficulty in teaching, managing and nurturing a group of children.

Clinical Supervisor for a small non-profit year-round Special Education School and Medi-Cal Mental Health Clinic.

Program Description:

La Cheim's school programs provides both special education and mental health services to adolescent and latency age children. All students have an IEP issued from a neighboring public school district. Students receive educational and therapeutic clinical services in small, self-contained classrooms. Each classroom's treatment team consists of a special education teacher, clinician, mental health resources specialist, and classroom assistant. Additionally highly trained Psychiatrists, RNs, and NPs assist each treatment team in developing a quality, thorough, treatment plans for each child.

Each classroom's therapeutic milieu provides individual and group therapy for the participating students. Classroom's student sizes are small, averaging between 5 to 7 students. Overall campus student census ranges from 12 to 18 students. This allows our treatment plans to be very specific for each student's individualized clinical and educational treatment needs.

Our school provides year-round educational and mental health services. Family therapy is a key component to successful client treatment. A child cannot be successfully served unless their family, extended family, and other outside care givers are involved.

La Cheim has a very dedicated treatment team. Staff turnover is quite low; most employees have been with La Cheim well over 15 years. This can be attributed to a positive sense of professional comradery, quality service provision, satisfaction and a very friendly working environment. • Responsible for the entire Program's Mental Health/ Medi-Cal services including ensuring all records and files are kept in 'Audit Ready' condition, physical facility meets Medi-Cal standards, and client charts go to mandated county mental health reviews and audits.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

• Must be a licensed MFT or MSW and be certified by the Board to supervise interns.

• Valid California Driver's License and a reliable vehicle.

• Current TB Test and clear criminal live scan clearances including DOJ & FBI.

• Past experience working with adolescents within a therapeutic milieu. (Preferred)

• Possess excellent administrative skills provided in an appropriate compassionate manner, yet be clear, firm, and direct.

• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Ability to write and implement Behavior Treatment Plan

Our after school program "Toyology: Science Through Toys" is seeking dedicated and creative part-time teachers and assistants to facilitate STEM-based learning in local elementary schools throughout the Bay Area. Our staff have the opportunity to work with 50+ elementary schools across the Bay Area from Walnut Creek to San Francisco. This job is a perfect opportunity for college students, teachers in training programs, retired teachers, and individuals who love working with children.

Teacher Responsibilities


  • Manage a class of 15-25 students along with an assistant

  • Attend an hour long weekly training and supply pick-up at our office in Castro Valley

  • Teach science concepts from a lesson plan

  • Instruct children how to build projects from step-by-step instructions

  • Conduct roll call and sign students in and out of the class

  • Interact with parents, teachers, and school staff

  • Set up and clean up the classroom

  • Transport all materials to and from class

Assistant Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher with the lesson and project of the day

  • Prep and pass out project materials

  • Help children put together science projects

Locations

Multiple public and private elementary schools located throughout the Bay Area. We make every effort to only assign schools that are within what you determine to be a reasonable commuting distance.

Currently, programs are located in San Francisco, Alameda, Berkeley, Richmond, Oakland, Piedmont, Castro Valley, Union City, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Danville, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, and more.

  Schedule  


  • Our staff work at the same time/days of the week from week to week over a three month period. Five classes a week, or one class per day from Monday to Friday, is the maximum class schedule for our staff

  • Classes are an hour in length, with fifteen minutes of prep and fifteen minutes of cleanup. In total, our staff works for an hour and a half for each day that they are on the schedule

  • Start times for classes can vary anywhere between 1PM and 4PM, depending on the school

  Requirements  


  • Must drive and have a reliable vehicle

  • Teachers must be willing to pick-up, drop-off, and transport supplies in their vehicle

  • Must have prior experience working with children

  • Background in education and prior experience teaching is a plus

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience managing a classroom

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, energetic and flexible

  • Able to communicate, multi-task and resolve issues and challenges creatively

Toyologists learn on the job classroom management skills, and practice the Sarah’s Science approach of positive reinforcement to teaching and interacting with children. We foster an inclusive and inviting learning environment by ensuring that every student builds a working toy based on our science lesson during every class.

Those who wish to join our team must have demonstrated leadership/teaching experience, excellent communication skills, and a positive and energetic attitude. Experience working with children is a must. Upon being hired, you must be willing to pay for and obtain Live Scan clearances (fingerprinting background checks) and receive a negative TB-Test result - both of which are eligible for reimbursement after the completion of a full session.

At BATC, we believe a tutor's academic expertise is just as important as his or her ability to effectively convey the subject matter to students of all levels and backgrounds. We are seeking personable, focused and enthusiastic individuals to tutor all levels of Spanish at our center in San Ramon. Many of our Spanish students come for help with reading, writing and grammar assignments from their Spanish classes at school, and some come for SAT II or AP test preparation. If you lack transportation, don't worry! A company carpool is available for those who live in the Berkeley area and commute to San Ramon.

  • Pay is $26/hr and up, DOE

  • We offer set shifts; your hours are guaranteed whether or not we are able to schedule students in them

  • Paid training, prep time and staff meetings

  • Transportation options available to those commuting from the Berkeley/Oakland area to San Ramon

  • Tutors who work 24+ hrs/wk are eligible for "full-time" benefits, including company subsidized health insurance

Qualifications

Tutors must be able to take initiative and work independently. At the same time, we expect tutors to collaborate with each other in order to develop and/or expand curricula. Spanish tutors must be able to teach all levels of Spanish through AP. In addition, tutors must have a thorough knowledge of Spanish grammar, vocabulary and idiom, as well as the ability to write and correct essays in Spanish. Prior tutoring experience is preferred and a bachelor's degree (or ongoing study towards a degree) is required. All candidates will be given an assessment test in their subject prior to interviewing.
