LOCATION: Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve (BCCER) and Butte Creek Ecological Preserve (BCEP). The expectation is the position will report to BCCER the majority of the time and work will be split between BCCER and contract work in the surrounding community.

COMPENSATION: $14-$18 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the supervision of the Ecological Reserves Field Coordinator, responsibilities include both programmatic elements and maintenance.

o Maintenance Elements:

• Carry out vegetation management on the Reserve or in surrounding community in ecologically

sensitive areas using a variety of tools

• Performs field work including invasive plan eradication; fence repair; road and trail maintenance

using a variety of hand and power tools

• Assists with pile burns

• Assist in facilities maintenance and minor repairs of visitor access sites

o Programmatic Elements:

• Acts as a host and facilitator for groups using the BCCER & BCEP including: faculty with field trips

and research activities; students with research projects; coordinating (scheduling and leading) community hikes

• Assists with the hunt program for the BCCER by posting signage, assisting with lottery and required forms

• May supervise student employees or volunteers (Steward II position)

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

o Qualifications:

• 3 semesters of college credits towards a degree

• An understanding of conservation of natural and open space resources

• Ability to communicate well with a wide variety of constituents including volunteers, student staff

Essential Duties of Mechanic:

Maintenance:
• Maintains condition of vehicles, tools and equipment
• Performs routine maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of equipment
• Excellent skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes
• Fabricates, modifies, and installs equipment or replaces parts
• Performs routine checks and adjustments on any above mentioned equipment
• Fabricate new metal parts, using drill presses, engine lathes, and other machine tools
• Excellent Heavy Duty Mechanic maintenance and troubleshooting skills
• Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems

Repairs:
• Mechanic will perform basic/complex agricultural equipment/outdoor power equipment diagnostics and determine what
repairs are needed
• Tune or overhaul engines

Requirements of the Supervisor:



  • Must attend all required supervisor meetings

  • Must have valid and a clean DMV driving record no violations for the past 7 years

  • Must have knowledge of Cal-OSHA regulations

  • Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in the janitorial cleaning industry

  • Ability to follow instructions

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, walking, stooping, handling, and moving objects up to 50-70 pounds

Job Description


Nationwide travel required, this position does not report to an office, candidates may reside in any state. The accessibility specialist travels to client sites to conduct facility surveys for compliance with federal, state and local accessibility codes, regulations and standards. Surveys are conducted using tools and computer equipment provided by Disability Access Consultants, LLC (DAC).


Job Responsibilities



  • Utilize measuring and computer equipment to conduct surveys. Equipment may include, but is not limited to: tape measure, level, camera, pc tablet, door pressure gauge and other inspection equipment.

  • All survey work requires travel to customer sites, which are located nationwide. The accessibility specialist must be able to travel frequently to job sites nationwide and be available to regularly stay at the job site for periods of several days to several months.

  • Travel is required by utilization of rental cars, personal vehicle, traveling by commercial airline or other methods as appropriate and organized by DAC.

  • Accurately complete surveys in a safe and timely manner.


Required Skills



  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds (i.e. luggage).

  • The ability to bend, twist and kneel repeatedly is required to conduct facility surveys.

  • A good short- and long-term memory is needed.

  • Attention to detail

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office programs, such as One Drive, Outlook, Word, Excel

  • Pass mandatory background checks (FBI and DOJ) and drug tests.

  • Required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. The accessibility specialist must maintain valid registration and insurance on their personal vehicle, as personal vehicles may be required to be used for travel to job sites.

  • Must not be on the “no-fly” list for airline travel, or otherwise unable to travel by airplane.

  • Travel will require the accessibility specialist to be away from their home city for frequent and extended periods of time. The time away will vary and is expected to regularly be at least one month at a time. Time away will commonly be more than one month, in order to meet client deadlines or for other scheduling needs.

  • The ability to access sites that may not be accessible by codes and standards is required. For example, the accessibility specialist will need to climb stairs to a main entrance, enter and measure small restrooms or other non-accessible and non-compliant areas. The accessibility specialist will also need to walk and stand for most of the workday. Surveys occur indoors and outdoors in all seasons and in most weather conditions.


Educational Requirements



  • Education beyond high school is preferred. The minimum requirements are a high school degree or GED. Other qualifications may be substituted for educational requirements.

  • Depending upon the assignment, accessibility specialists may be required to pass other certification examinations, such as the International Code Council Certification Examination.
