Heaven Sent Pet Care is currently looking for dynamic, caring, and trustworthy pet lovers to join our expanding team in Evanston, Wilmette, and Kenilworth! We are a personalized, full-service, in-home pet care service providing dog walking, pet sitting, and house-sitting services. We offer flexible, long-term positions -- a great way to make supplemental income for freelancers!

We are currently hiring for a part-time DAILY DOG WALKER. If you love to spend time outdoors, are a self-starter, and are able to work independently and manage a changing schedule, this may be the job for you!

Our "Daily Dog" walking services are typically performed Monday through Friday between between the hours of 10am-5pm. (Our busiest time frame is between 11am-3pm). We do private visits/walks for our clients. We never do "pack walks" (walking multiple clients dogs at a time)

Our fees:

The rate walkers are paid ranges between $6.92-$8.50 per 25 MINUTE visit (equivalent averages to around $13.84-17 per hour).

Consistent and predictable work!

Unlike with dog-walking apps where bookings can be infrequent and not consistent, from week to week our walkers have the same group of dogs to work with and can count on how much work they will have.

Typically, we will start out walkers with a "fill-in" route (filling in for other Midday dog-walkers) or a shorter route and build up the route as we are able and as the walker is comfortable. Most of our current Daily walkers complete between 4-8 visits daily.

Flexibility!

Visits -- you get to choose how many 25-minute visits a day you do.

Hours and Days -- we will work with our walkers to find a time frame and amount of visits per day that works with them and their schedule, but it is our preference that candidates have some consistent availability Monday through Friday, and are available during our busiest time frame between 11a-3pm.

Administrative support!

This is a supported position and we are office staffed from 8am-4pm Monday through Friday for any questions or help a walker might need. We also have emergency contacts for walkers, if an issue arises after business hours.

Qualifications

Is this a good fit for you? We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are organized, dependable, trustworthy, timely, and professional.

  • Have great customer service and communication skills.

  • Are team players who are able to work independently and responsibly, and can handle last-minute changes and requests from clients.

  • Enjoy being outside in all four seasons and the weather that comes with them! (Rain, snow, heat, cold, wind...)

  • Can make at least a 6-month commitment to working with us. We view dog-walking as a career choice and do not often hire just seasonally or temporarily. The dogs (and their owners!) get attached to their walkers and sitters!

  • Love Animals! You don't have to have any animal work experience, but we find it is helpful if you have at least had pets of your own before.

Background & References: You need to be at least 21 years old, able to pass a background/criminal check, and have at least 3 references.

Physical Requirements: You need to have excellent dog-handling skills and intuition to walk and control dogs of all sizes and breeds. You also need to handle the activity level of walking dogs for 2-6 hours per day (you choose the amount).

Supplies & Equipment: You need to have: (1) a reliable insured automobile and a valid driver's license (2) a computer with access to the internet, (3) a printer, (4) a working cell smartphone (preferably with texting).

Location: Because Heaven Sent does not compensate for travel time/commute, it is best if you live in or near one of our service areas (Wilmette, Evanston, or Kenilworth).

Do you live in SF? (No BAY BRIDGE commuters)

Own a SUV/van/wagon/truck w bed cover? (Sorry no exceptions, unless you buy one.)

While many other dog walking jobs you'll see are on leash solo or with a couple dogs, our operation should not even be called dog walking at all. What we do is lead packs of dogs off leash in forests and on beaches, running them through adventures everyday. On the underbelly of it all though is learning and socialization. These dogs learn from you how to be well behaved and disciplined both on their own, with each other, and with their handlers. Teacher, boot camp instructor, pack leader, canine concierge; we wear many hats, and sometimes they get eaten. What we're looking for is someone fun, energetic, positive, and looking to enjoy this career for at least a year. So we ask you:

  • Own a SUV/van/wagon/truck w bed cover? (Sorry no exceptions, unless you buy one)

  • Live in SF? (No BAY BRIDGE commuters, Daly City OK)

  • There is no previous dog experience required!

  • Do you LOVE dogs?

  • Athletic, energetic and looking to stay fit?

  • Know the City's layout?

  • Have a cell phone and know how to use it?

  • Able to commit to a year or more?

  • Friendly, outgoing, and customer savvy?

  • Have extreme patience?!

  • Eager to learn? To teach?

If you can rightfully answer "yes" to each and every of the preceding questions, apply now. These are all "must have" qualities to keep our company at the forefront of the industry. Even though these are seemingly basic, they are at the heart of what we do. Be not mistaken, we are top tier and need you to be, too. We won SF's #1 Dog Walking company in three separate publications just this year.

If you're still reading, you're probably looking for this last set of details: MONEY!!

Trainee $15/hr when riding along or doing after hours training meetings (for one week only). $19/hr when driving alone

  • Dogtoral Candidate $20/hr

  • Puppy Professor - $21

  • Dean Of Dogs - $22/hr

  • Chancellor of Canines - $30,000 annual salary (~$1,150/paycheck)

  • Assistant Field Managers - $30,000 annual salary (~$1,150/paycheck)

  • Field Managers - $32,500 annual salary (~$1,250/paycheck)

  • Chief Happiness Officer - $35,000 annual salary ($1,350/paycheck)

  • Chief Operations Officer - $37,700 annual salary ($1,450/paycheck)

You shadow for a week, taking in $15/hour. Essentially you do nothing but ride along, meet the dogs and coworkers, and learn the basics of the daily routine. Not bad at all.

Week #2 is a bit different, so we up you to $19/hour. You start picking up your own packs of dogs and meet up with me and other staff at our walking locations - typically Crissy Field and the forest at the Presidio. You start keeping track of your mileage and will be reimbursed gallon for gallon. You learn. You're bumped up to $20 for 2nd leg of training, and after your training is complete, typically the first two months of employ, $21/hour. You'll get your dog walker certification ($800 you don't have to spend) and ready to go.

The longer you stick with it, the more you involve yourself in our company mission, the more you demonstrate your willingness to work hard and grow professionally, the more you learn, the more you earn. We currently have 5/8 staffers on salary.

The shift rundown:

Typical shifts last five to six hours Monday-Friday, you start in the late morning and are home by early evening, roughly 10-4. If you want an 8 hour day that can be arranged by adding private walks before groups. For us, there is no such thing as working nights, weekends, or holidays. However, good extra income is available to you through boarding and solo walks on your own personal schedule as needed by our clientele. If you can sit dogs you can make thousands in cash!!!!! I made $2700 in January alone, just on sitting, in addition to my normal pay.

If you want to work here simply describe your interest in a convincing, professional email (cover letter). Your email is your ticket, so craft it well. Professional submissions will be looked at. We look forward to hearing from you.

Prepare to submit A FEW REFERENCES after we talk initially. At least one must be a former employer/supervisor.

Each morning, right at sunrise, a pack of young and rambunctious puppies drag their parents into our daycare, and can't wait to greet their fellow pup-mates. The pups are full of energy and literally bouncing off the walls. Sometimes they play with each other nicely, but other times, they play too rough. Or they may have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed that morning, and would prefer to stay away from the other dogs that day. On top of that, the pups are prone to having accidents, usually of the pottying variety.

This is where you come in. As a Canine Specialist, you will be in charge of the dogs when they want to play with each other, and when they don't. You'll encourage them to play nicely with each other, but must be ready to step in and interrupt them when they start to play too rough. You'll also need to recognize when a dog is having a bad hair day, and needs your help to keep the other dogs away. Your day will also be filled with constant cleaning, as potty accidents are frequent, and must be cleaned immediately.

All our team members are passionate about caring for pets.  We work together as a team, and are committed to being the best in the industry.  The work is hard, but we always carry a positive attitude, and recognize that our hard work is helping dogs live a happier and healthier lifestyle.  When we do a great job, we give credit to the team members that made it possible.

Key Results Areas:

Safe animal care — handling dogs ethically, and keeping them safe with minimal fights and injuries

Fun animal care — keep dogs engaged and happy through physical activity, mental activity, and dog training games

Cleanliness and sanitation — keeping the facility clean and odor-free

Client interactions — always eager to help our pet parents and provide them with frequent stories about their pup in daycare

Attendance — punctuality and prompt communication about running late and scheduling conflicts

Communication — frequent communication about the dogs, customers, and how to improve our daycare

Additional Requirements:

• Passion and love for all canines

• Great at talking to people

• Always clean and organized

• Comfortable with all dogs, including large dogs

• Able to lift at least 50 lbs

• Perform physically strenuous work all-day

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Able to start shifts as early as 6:30 AM, or shifts that end as late as 9:00 PM

• Takes initiative and is innovative in a start-up type of environment

Previous experience in dog care helpful, but not required. We will provide training in play group management, dog handling techniques, and sanitation.  Having a valid driver's license is also helpful, but not required.

Compensation range is $15-$18 per hour, depending on performance.  We also provide an opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses and additional income opportunities.

To summarize, we are looking for individuals who find immense joy in interacting with animals and their human pet parents.  We are also looking for individuals who have an appreciation for new businesses, new ideas, and a strong desire to achieve great results in a supportive team environment.

Please send a resume and cover letter to woof*AT*playbowdogs*DOT*com

Please include the following information in your cover letter:

• Detailed availability weekdays and weekends

• Whether you are seeking a part-time or full-time position

• How you will help us in our pursuit to become the best dog daycare

• Your favorite breed of dog

• Your #1 favorite thing about dogs

• Why you would be an excellent addition to our new team
