We pay by the job- so instead of getting hourly no matter how many mutts you wrangle, the more dogs you walk at a time the more you make! We are searching for someone with a zeal for life and the outdoors to commit to our team.

The perfect person will...

  1. Have a reliable vehicle that can hold up to six dogs. Hatchbacks, SUVs and trucks are preferred. A 4 door sedan will not work for this job.

  2. Be available to work during some holidays and times when everyone likes to travel. December is our busiest season.

  3. Enjoy working rain or shine walking dogs from roughly 9am-3pm M-F Be available Mon- Fri. The current schedule needed is every other Tue/Th/Fri but we will change those days for the right person. You must be able to trade shifts with other walkers so everyone can enjoy a flexible schedule! This is on leash dog walking, please be physically capable of handling up to 7 dogs at a time, some of whom are over 50 lb.s.

  4. Love dogs! We prefer someone with experience working with dogs in some capacity, or at minimum has owned several personal dogs.

  5. Be available to stay at client homes for anywhere between 1 day to several weeks while they travel. Clients travel for anywhere between a few days to several weeks, you choose which jobs you'd like. This is a great opportunity for people who write or work remotely to get some quiet time away from home and make extra cash.

  6. Live in the Oakland area. This job already involves a lot of driving and we value sustainability and hiring people from our community. No bridge commuters please.

  7. Be able to commit for a minimum of 1 year. Our training is extensive and ongoing, and you will build personal relationships with your clients and their dogs.  The longer you work the more clients you take on.

***If you have your own pooch: rad, awesome, great! You can bring them dog walking with you, but not to overnight jobs. Please consider who will care for them if you were staying at client homes.

Calling all pet lovers! Heaven Sent Pet Care, a professional dog walking company (serving Evanston, Wilmette, and Kenilworth) is currently looking for dynamic, caring, and trustworthy pet lovers to join our expanding team. Start making supplemental income doing what you love!

We are currently hiring for part-time DAILY DOG WALKERS and we will be thorough in finding the next good "fit" for our expanding team. If you love to spend time outdoors, are a self-starter, and are able to work independently and manage a changing schedule, this may be the job for you!

Our services:

Our "Daily Dog" walking services are typically performed Monday through Friday between between the hours of 10am-5pm. (Our busiest time frame is between 11am-3pm).

We do private visits/walks for our clients. We never do "pack walks" (walking multiple clients dogs at a time).

Our fees:

Each of our staff is an independent contractor. We pay every other week via Direct Deposit to your account.

The rate walkers are paid ranges between $6.46-$8.50 per 25-minute visit (equivalent averages to around $13-16 per hour).

We are looking for candidates whose priority is providing quality care to our furry clients and their owners. If money is your primary motivation, this may not be the job (nor the industry) for you.

Consistent and predictable work!

From week to week you have the same group of dogs to work with and you can count on how much work you will have. Unlike app-based services where walkers need to build their own route each day from available walks on the app, each walker lets us know how many visits per day they would like to be doing and we make sure that we meet their needs each day. Typically, we will start out walkers with shorter route and build it up as the walker is comfortable. Most of our current walkers complete between 4-8 visits daily.

Flexibility!

Hours -- you get to choose how many 1/2-hour pet visits a day you do.

Days -- we work with our walkers to find a time frame and amount of visits per day that works with them. It is our preference that candidates have some consistent availability Monday through Friday, and are available during our busiest time frame between 11a-3pm.

We offer administrative support to our walkers:

We provide a professional work environment. This is a supported position and we are office staffed from 8am-4pm Monday through Friday for any questions or help a walker might need.

We also have emergency contacts for walkers, if an issue arises after business hours. We also offer continuing training and tips for new walkers to become successful in this industry.

We are looking for candidates who:

Are organized, dependable, trustworthy, timely, and professional.

Have great customer service and communication skills.

Are team players who can handle last-minute changes and requests from clients.

Are able to work independently and responsibly.

Enjoy being outside in all four seasons and the weather that comes with them! (Rain, snow, heat, cold, wind...)

Are interested in long-term work. We view dog-walking as a career choice and do not often hire just seasonally or temporarily. If you are looking for short-term work just to "get by" between other jobs, we are not the right fit.

Love Animals! You don't have to have any animal work experience, but we find it is helpful if you have at least had pets of your own before.

You need to be at least 21 years old, able to pass a background/criminal check, and have at least 2 references.

You need to have excellent dog-handling skills and intuition to walk and control dogs of all sizes and breeds.

You also need to handle the activity level of walking dogs for 2-6 hours per day (you choose the amount).

You need to have: (1) a reliable insured automobile and a valid driver's license (2) a computer with access to the internet, (3) a printer, (4) a smartphone (preferably with a data plan or texting).

Because Heaven Sent does not compensate for travel time/commute, it is best if you live in or near one of our service areas (Wilmette, Evanston, or Kenilworth).

Interested in applying? Please send an email to hiring.heavensentpetcare@gmail.com to tell us a little about yourself, including your answers to the following questions:

  1. Are you over 21 years of age?

  2. Do you have a car?

  3. Where do you live? (Which neighborhood?)

  4. What appeals to you about working with a dog walking team?

  5. Please describe your personal pet experience (can be personal or professional).

  6. Do you have any allergies to pets?

  7. Are you comfortable around cats? Do you enjoy being around them?

  8. Are you currently working? (List where you work, location, and what hours. If you are not currently working, please list your last place of employment and why you left.)

  9. Are you a student/grad student? What are you studying and when do you take classes (Daytime, evenings, Weekends, online, etc.)

  10. Do you have a computer? Access to internet? Access to a printer for daily use?

  11. Is your cell phone a smart phone with a data plan? If not, do you have texting capabilities?

  12. What hours and days are you available to work with us? It is helpful if you can be as specific as possible (For example: "Mon-Friday 10am-3pm" or "Mon-Weds 11-4pm, Thurs/Fri 9am-3pm", etc.

  13. What is your estimated duration of employment in this type of position? 3-4 months, 4-6 months, 6-8 months, 8 months to 1 year, or longer?

Do you live in SF? (No BRIDGE commuters, Daly City OK)

Own a SUV/van/wagon/truck w bed cover? (Sorry no exceptions, unless you buy one.)

While many other dog walking jobs you'll see are on leash solo or with a couple dogs, our operation should not even be called dog walking at all. What we do is lead packs of dogs off leash in forests and on beaches, running them through adventures everyday. On the underbelly of it all though is learning and socialization. These dogs learn from you how to be well behaved and disciplined both on their own, with each other, and with their handlers. Teacher, boot camp instructor, pack leader, canine concierge; we wear many hats, and sometimes they get eaten. What we're looking for is someone fun, energetic, positive, and looking to enjoy this career for at least a year. So we ask you:

  • Own a SUV/van/wagon/truck w bed cover? (Sorry no exceptions, unless you buy one)

  • Live in SF? (No BRIDGE commuters, Daly City OK)

  • There is no previous dog experience required!

  • Do you LOVE dogs?

  • Athletic, energetic and looking to stay fit?

  • Know the City's layout?

  • Have a cell phone and know how to use it?

  • Able to commit to a year or more?

  • Friendly, outgoing, and customer savvy?

  • Have extreme patience?!

  • Eager to learn? To teach?

If you can rightfully answer "yes" to each and every of the preceding questions, apply now. These are all "must have" qualities to keep our company at the forefront of the industry. Even though these are seemingly basic, they are at the heart of what we do. Be not mistaken, we are top tier and need you to be, too. We won SF's #1 Dog Walking company in three separate publications just this year.

If you're still reading, you're probably looking for this last set of details: MONEY!!

Trainee $15/hr when riding along or doing after hours training meetings (one week). $19/hr when driving alone

  • Dogtoral Candidate $20/hr

  • Puppy Professor - $21

  • Dean Of Dogs - $22/hr

  • Assistant Field Managers - $23/hr or salary

  • Field Managers - $30,000 annual salary (~$1,150/paycheck)

  • Chief Happiness Officer - $32,500 annual salary ($1,250/paycheck)

  • Chief Operations Officer - $37,700 annual salary ($1,450/paycheck)

You shadow for a week, taking in $14/hour. Essentially you do nothing but ride along, meet the dogs and coworkers, and learn the basics of the daily routine. Not bad at all.

Week #2 is a bit different, so we up you to $19/hour. You start picking up your own packs of dogs and meet up with me and other staff at our walking locations - typically Crissy Field and the forest at the Presidio. You start keeping track of your mileage and will be reimbursed gallon for gallon. You learn. You're bumped up to $20 for 2nd leg of training, and after your training is complete, typically the first two months of employ, $21/hour. You'll get your dog walker certification ($800 you don't have to spend) and ready to go.

The longer you stick with it, the more you involve yourself in our company mission, the more you demonstrate your willingness to work hard and grow professionally, the more you learn, the more you earn. We currently have 5/8 staffers on salary.

Typical shifts last five to six hours Monday-Friday, you start in the late morning and are home by early evening, roughly 10-4. If you want an 8 hour day that can be arranged. For us, there is no such thing as working nights, weekends, or holidays. However, good extra income is available to you through boarding, solo walks, and eventually private lessons on your own personal schedule as needed by our clientele. If you can sit dogs you can make thousands in cash!!!!!

If you want to work here simply describe your interest in a convincing, professional email (cover letter). Your email is your ticket, so craft it well. Professional submissions will be looked at. We look forward to hearing from you.

LIST A FEW REFERENCES. At least one must be a former employer.

      FAQs

      • Am I eligible to become a Rover walker? You need to be at least 18 years old, have the latest Rover app for iOS or Android, able to pass a background check, and be available on weekdays. Beyond that, dog walkers come from a variety of backgrounds. If you work from home or you're a student, recent grad, nanny, babysitter, seasonal worker, entry-level job seeker, retiree, or contract worker, Rover could be a great fit for you. If you're a vet tech, vet assistant, kennel assistant, or in any pet care or animal care field, you could make money with Rover while building your professional skills. But of course, nothing is more important than a genuine love of dogs.

      • What's the process to become a Rover walker? You'll get started by taking a background check and creating your Rover profile, which our in-house team will manually review. Once you pass that step, you'll earn your walking certification. During your certification, we’ll teach you how to use the common types of harnesses you’ll encounter, how to use the app, and all the important safety information related to walking. The final step will be an in-person harness test.

      • Can I offer other services besides dog walking? Absolutely! You can also offer dog boarding (watching dogs overnight in your home), house sitting (taking care of your client's dog and their home overnight), day care, and drop-in visits—it's up to you.

      • How much can I make as a Rover dog walker? Since you set your schedule, you can make as much or as little as you like. You'll earn $12 for each 30-minute walk (plus $3 for each additional dog). If you offer other Rover services, you'll set your own rates and keep 80% of your earnings (the other 20% helps us cover benefits the costs of processing payments and ongoing promotion of Rover dog walkers and sitters—as well 24/7 support, important site maintenance, and product improvements).
