The work performed by this position will include data analytics, performance measurements, and data architecture – all in service of sharing information and producing insights for decision makers. Minimum Qualifications:


  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job, plus three (3) years experience related to the job.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated professional experience in data analysis, machine learning, data visualization, systems analysis, or policy analysis

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and communicating both quantitative and qualitative data, including performance measures

  • Knowledge of City of Austin, state, and federal statues, ordinances and codes relevant to social services, housing, planning and related domains

  • Knowledge of methods for research, cost/benefit analysis, statistical analysis, and financial modeling

  • Experience in data architecture, including assessing the structure of data systems to share data and information

  • Interpersonal skills to engage all stakeholders and facilitate accurate requirements to capture and manage stakeholders’ expectations

Required Skills:

  3. Foster strong collaboration with technical and non-technical colleagues whose decisions will be informed by data analysis. Understand requirements facing each team, and inspire consistent and scalable solutions that fulfill those needs.


  4. Work closely with business intelligence analysts who will assess, interpret, and forecast based on the raw data produced by our operational instrumentation. Work in partnership to understand business requirements, anticipated questions, and insights needed to inform decision-making, and ensure our instrumentation is relevant and actionable.


  5. Identify data and tooling requirements in order to influence project prioritization and roadmaps.


  6. Provide data support for Escalation teams in critical escalations, as needed. Develop long term strategies to increase the organizations ability to efficiently and autonomously investigate escalations via self-service tooling and via coaching and mentoring that results in the upleveling of Escalation domain specialists.


  7. Please note that some weekend work and holiday work may be required on a shift basis.


Minimum Qualifications:


  1. BA/BS degree or higher in a technical field, i.e. data engineering, sciences, information science, economics, statistics, etc, or related technical experience.


  2. 3+ years of experience working in data infrastructure, data analysis, data support to operations, informational systems, online operations, or equivalent.


  3. Experience using SQL queries or R to perform advanced analysis.


  4. Experience communicating about data and data processes to non-technical stakeholders who are the users of systems involving metrics, pipelines, and workflows.


  5. Proven track record of breaking down processes and identifying key pain points and underlying causes in order to deliver business improvements at the regional or global level.


Preferred Qualifications:


  1. Experience building and testing data flow pipelines


  2. Experience in producing data, processes, and underlying structures that feed into business intelligence analysis for operations teams (e.g. ETL)


  3. Experience in one of more of the following programming languages: Python, PHP or Haskell


  4. Experience working with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau)
