The Opportunity

Resource Development Associates seeks a highly-motivated individual with strong quantitative and qualitative research and communication skills (verbal and written), who is committed to social and economic justice. Research Associates work as members of project teams with Program Associates and Senior Program Associates on a wide variety of issues including but not limited to evaluations, planning projects, and grant writing on juvenile and criminal justice, mental health, social services, foster care, public health and many other disciplines. The Research Associate position is an entry level position and can lead to other levels of employment.

What You'll Do


  • Participate in both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis including conducting interviews and facilitating discussions; creating and administering survey tools; entering, managing and QA-ing data;

  • Coordinate data requests with city, county and non-profit organizations; review datasets to ensure understanding of data structure and meaning, and to clarify assumptions, outcomes and findings, and escalate issues as needed;

  • Obtain, organize, code, clean and analyze large N datasets; run appropriate statistical tests and consider all variables for data analysis with minimal oversight;

  • Support senior staff by conducting research utilizing on-line sources, journal articles and reports, writing up summaries of researched materials, drafting reports;

  • Assist meeting facilitators and leaders of focus groups (including conducting outreach and organizing meetings, note-taking and charting);

  • Be able to understand and follow a work plan;

  • Provide administrative support including data entry, general office tasks, etc; other duties as assigned.

About You


  • 1+ years of experience using SAS, STATA, or other statistical package in a professional or academic environment is preferred

  • Competency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access;

  • Spanish language fluency is highly desirable;

  • Display professionalism in the workplace and the field;

  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills;

  • Demonstrated experience in being a quick learner and self-directed.

  • Master’s degree preferred in public health, education, social sciences or related field or BA in liberal arts, political science or related field; experience may replace education

Downstream Bioprocess Development Scientist

Codexis, Inc. (Nasdaq: CDXS) is a protein engineering industry leader with successful track record of developing novel enzymes used as biocatalysts for the commercial production of small molecule pharmaceuticals, chemicals used in the food industry, as well as multiple other applications. Codexis has also applied its CodeEvolver technology platform to discover and develop novel biotherapeutics for the treatment of rare genetic disorders, among other indications with significant unmet medical need. In 2017, the company announced a broad collaboration with Nestle Health Science, in which Nestle took an option to co-develop and potentially commercialize Codexis' first self-developed therapeutic candidate, CDX-6114 for the treatment of Phenylketonuria (PKU).

Codexis is looking for an experienced Process Development Scientist with specific expertise in protein purification and recovery. This individual should have a proven track record developing scalable purification processes and managing talented Associate-level direct reports. Successful candidates will be part of a growing interdisciplinary, dynamic and enthusiastic team responsible for further expanding Codexis' biotherapeutic project portfolio and maximizing Codexis' core technologies for the design, optimization and development of transformational protein therapeutics. This individual will also use his/her experience and critical thinking skills to contribute to building an expanding process development group that can meet the demands of the organization. Strong experience in developing purification processes ready for transfer to CDMOs and overseeing scale up and manufacturing of clinical grade drug substance is required.

Responsibilities:

The Process Development Scientist will be responsible for:


  • Development of purification processes for newly evolved enzymes expressed in a variety of microbial and mammalian hosts.

  • Troubleshoot and adapt analytical methods to quantify yield, activity, and purity at various stages of the manufacturing process

  • Characterization of the physicochemical properties of newly evolved enzymes such as pI, molecular size, pH and temperature stability to provide relevant information purification development.

  • Development of unit operations at the bench -scale (10L) such as, centrifugation, homogenization, precipitation, ultra-filtration, depth filtration and chromatography.

  • Production of purified enzymes for animal studies, reference standards, and preliminary stability studies.

  • Working within multidisciplinary project teams to design and execute process development campaigns, interpreting data, and working with other team members to integrate results into process designs and overall project plans.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain analytical and process equipment.

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies for downstream processing and analysis.

  • Authoring and review of equipment and process SOPs.

Job Requirements:


  • Education: BS, MS or Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, or Biological Science, BS with 10+ years, MS with 6+ years or Ph.D. with 0-3 years industry experience in purifying and analyzing enzymes

  • Strong technical background and direct hands-on experience with downstream processing unit operations such as preparative chromatography, centrifugation, homogenization, micro filtration, ultra-filtration, sterile filtration, etc.

  • Sound understanding of protein biochemistry and recombinant protein expression in microbial and mammalian hosts relevant to downstream purification.

  • Independently investigate complex analytical problems and provide robust solutions

  • Proficient at protein purification using affinity, size exclusion, ion exchange, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography using AKTA FPLC systems.

  • Experimental design and data analysis capabilities including Design of Experiments (DOE).

  • Understanding of engineering issues involved in scale up and possesses both practical and analytical skills to implement relevant scale down models.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task and remain flexible with changing needs.

  • Must be motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills, documentation, organization, good record keeping, writing reports and SOPs.

  • Able to work effectively in cross functional teams to solve manufacturing problems or implement improved procedures.

  • Mentor and supervise staff as well as work effectively with management teams.

  • Some travel to manufacturing sites will be required

Huckleberry Youth Programs (HYP) is a community-based youth agency, providing a full spectrum of services to homeless, runaway, and other at-risk youth and families in San Francisco and Marin counties. The Director of Research and Evaluation oversees the collection, management, and analysis of HYP’s youth services data. This individual must be able to respond thoughtfully and judiciously—drawing on expertise in data systems, social services, and program evaluation—to the needs and goals of a highly adaptive organization with deep roots in the Bay Area. HYP has long-standing programs and services, but prides itself on being responsive to changing needs within the communities it serves. The ideal candidate is able to adapt data systems in kind, recognizing when to leverage existing functionality and when structural changes are needed. Further, this position will support the organization on its continued path toward being more data informed through all levels of operations. 

DUTIES: 


  1. Oversee all aspects of client and program data for the agency, including reporting, data integrity, and security 

  2. Administer HYP’s customized Salesforce CRM for tracking client services and outcomes, including managing users, permissions, reports, dashboards, data, and metadata 

  3. Develop, maintain, and analyze evaluations for all programs with input from program management; research appropriate measures for new projects as needed 

  4. Report on program goals, outcomes, and impact to staff, funders, board, and community 

  5. Develop Salesforce metadata and thoroughly document changes to meet existing and future program and funding requirements 

  6. Build program evaluation capacity at program management and executive levels across the organization 

  7. Build and refine existing tools (dashboards and reports) to allow program staff to access and respond to aggregate data in real time to make data-informed program decisions 

  8. Integrate HYP’s data systems with external databases, including government systems, importing and exporting data as needed, to comply with grant requirements 

  9. Migrate archival data to Salesforce 

  10. Review goals and outcomes with program directors and development department annually 

  11. Provide feedback to program directors, including data interpretation support, to inform/implement logic models and theories of change 

  12. Contribute program evaluation information to grant applications 

  13. Hire and supervise consultants, data management, and data entry staff 14. Serve as HIPAA Security Officer 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 


  1. Advanced degree in public health, social work, psychology, human services or similar field, or equivalent experience where evaluation/research were prominent components of program 

  2. 3+ years Salesforce system administrator experience required, including customization and maintenance of custom objects 

  3. Salesforce developer experience required 

  4. 3+ years experience in social services program evaluation and research, including applied research methods 

  5. Familiarity with data requirements for grant writing, reporting, program evaluation, and compliance 

  6. Advanced data analysis skills; high proficiency with data analysis software 

  7. Advanced database development and maintenance skills, including relational data models 

  8. Excellent organizational and communication skills 

  9. Excellent formatting skills and experience creating well-structured, readable reports, presentations, and forms

The selected candidate will work with our staff of environmental scientists, civil and mechanical engineers, safety professionals and industrial hygienists. The successful candidate will spend approximately 75% of their time performing environmental engineering and/or industrial hygiene based assessments and monitoring involving asbestos and lead. The position will include approximately 75% field work and 25% office work over the course of the year. Note that SCA will train you in the necessary technical areas, so you do not need to have experience in all areas. Specific responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:    


  • Development and management of field work, including soil, soil vapor, and ground water sampling; drilling oversight, soil logging, soil boring, monitoring well installation and well development; purging, sampling, and construction oversight

  • Provide construction oversight on environmental remediation projects, operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems. 

  • Data interpretation and preparation of technical reports, work plans, health and safety plans, closure reports, technical memoranda, etc. ·

  • Performance of Phase I and II environmental assessments to support due diligence investigations. 

  • Coordination with and management of subcontractors and in-house field staff. 

  • Liaison between regulatory agencies, stakeholders and clients for project assignments. 

  • Supervision of personnel and assistance in staff development/training in technical areas. 

  • Ability to work in a consulting environment and handle multiple project assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budgets. 

  • Understanding all aspects of project management, including scheduling, cost controls, subcontractor selection and coordination, and budget tracking. 

  • Manage client expectations and maintain routine communication with clients and regulatory agencies and stakeholders to support projects 

  • Perform client management and development to assist with the successful pursuit and winning of new environmental business in the Bay Area 

  • Preparation of proposals, and business development

  • Initiating and maintaining extensive contacts with clients in the public and private sectors

Qualifications


  • A Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, or related discipline.  

  • Current Registration as a Professional Engineer, PE or Professional Geologist, PG is required.

  • 7+ years of progressive work experience in the environmental industry with at least 5 years of project and client management in environmental consulting

  • Must have prior soil and groundwater environmental investigation and remediation project experience.

  • Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER is strongly preferred.   

  • Flexibility and ability to work well independently and within a team environment.

  • Ability to effectively interact with clients, regulatory agencies, field operations, technical staff and subcontractors. 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  

  • Exceptional technical report writing skills

  • Proven track record with quality/budget/schedule tracking and scope-specific assignments.

QA Analyst who has extensive experience with all phases of the methodology SDLC, understand regression testing and creating test cases.   • Oversees the work of other CDAs as required. This may involve on-the-job training, review of work, as well as ensuring the quality of work performed.

  • Ensures that data from external databases/datasets such as central and/or local laboratory data, electronic diary data, pharmacokinetic (PK) data, or Interactive Response Technology (IRT) are consistent with data in the clinical database. Uses the specified process to document and query any such discrepancies found with the appropriate party.

  • Completes tasks within timeframe by appropriately prioritizing multiple tasks within or across projects and adapts to timeline or priority changes by reorganizing daily workload. Proactively communicates to project team and management accurate estimates on time to complete tasks, availability to take on new assignments and resourcing conflicts. Minimizes rework by following study instructions, seeking understanding of assignments prior to performing task and anticipating the effect changes may have on data when issuing and resolving queries.

  • Runs data cleaning and/or status reports.

  • Performs Serious Adverse Event (SAE) reconciliations.

  • Liaises with other groups such as Clinical Programming (CP), Biostatistics and Clinical Operations.

  • Creates ad-hoc data cleaning reports used to determine if a validated listing is required including creation of the specification for the validated listing (updates DVS with the listing requirements).

  • Perform post-migration testing on screens, edit checks, matrices and role changes as required.

  • Participates in customer and third party meetings distributing relevant information in advance, ensures minutes are promptly and accurately distributed to internal team for review and subsequent edits are applied in order to maintain established currency for sponsor distribution.

  • Reviews database design specifications (including configuration, data structures, annotated CRFs).

  • Designs and/or reviews CRF/eCRF including eCRF visit structure co-coordinating with team members responsible for the associated database design.

  • Provides input into the Data Validation Specification (DVS) including creation of edit checks for assigned forms including any post-production updates to the DVS and listings under guidance.

  • Provides support to the PDM on a study as required. May involve soliciting support from and coordinating with other CDAs, taking full responsibility for an aspect of the study delivery, or producing study metrics reports. PDM’s back up for specific activities (including attend sponsor’s meetings to provide updates).

  • Creation of Discoverer, BOXI, J-Review Reports

  • Creates, updates and reviews study-specific documents such as CRF/eCRF DMP, data import/export agreements, CRF/eCRF Completion Guidelines.

  • Fills-in the Data Transfer Request Form required for delivering the data to sponsor or vendor.

  • Reviews queries and self-evident corrections proposed by less experienced DM staff.

  • Understands the coding process

  • Understands the purpose of interim, dry run, data cut

  • Trains and mentors DM staff providing timely feedback to trainee and management as appropriate.

  • Trains project team in project specific requirements.

  • Provides EDC training to internal and external team members via Teleconference.

  • Serves as a platform or process-specific Subject Matter Expert (SME).

  • Performs QC of DMSF after QuickStart® Camp (QSC) and ongoing during the study conduct.

  • May be required to participate in client, internal or agency audits and inspections.

  • May represent the department at business development related meetings.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



  • BA/BS degree in the biological sciences or related disciplines in the natural science/health care field. 

  • Experience with DM practices and relational database management software systems preferred. 

  • Oracle Clinical, Medidata Rave, or Inform systems preferred. Knowledge of clinical data, and ICH/Good Clinical Practices. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. 

  • Proficiency in navigating MS Windows, as well as use of MS Word, Excel, and email applications. Excellent speed and accuracy of keyboard skills 

  • Work experience in clinical research, drug development, data management, or other healthcare environment preferred. 

  • Familiarity with medical terminology 

  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal skills, both written and spoken, with an ability to inform, influence, convince, and persuade 

  • Good organizational, planning, and time management skills preferred. Ability to multitask under tight deadlines while providing attention to detail. Ability to be flexible and adapt to change. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 

  • Ability to perform a leadership functions in DM including effective mentoring skills, and the ability to deal effectively with sponsors and internal customers. 

  • Responsible for performing activities that are in compliance with applicable Corporate Business Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and Working Instructions and performing other duties as assigned by management. Minimal travel may be required (up to 25%).
