The JCC East Bay is a welcoming, inspiring home for people of all ages and life stages. We encourage intellectual, experiential and spiritual exploration of Jewish culture and tradition, build joyful, progressive and inclusive community, and inspire the active pursuit of Tikkun Olam (repair of the world). Our programs include Jewish holiday celebrations and a myriad of literary, cultural, fitness events, lectures and concerts throughout the year.

Our award-winning preschool and highly regarded afterschool programs are known for their exciting curricula and dynamic staff. The afterschool program serves over 600 children at two public schools in Oakland, and at our /CC sites in Oakland and Berkeley. Our day camp, Camp Tzofim, is a popular choice for East Bay kids and parents during the summer, and we have a large, active delegation to the national JCC Maccabi Games every year.

We are currently seeking teachers for our Berkeley and Oakland sites, including our Kids Club at Joaquin Miller School in Oakland. We are also looking for substitutes for all the above locations.

Position Summary

The Afterschool Teacher participates in all functions of the Afterschool programs. Teachers prepare & direct weekly enrichment classes based on personal passions & skills. JCC East Bay welcomes qualified participants of all backgrounds and identities.

Example of Duties


  • Supervise children, including strong attention to health, safety & planning, preparation & implementation of developmentally appropriate programs for children-grades K-5. 

  • Effectively & professionally communicate with parents.

  • Participate with team in weekly staff meetings & scheduled programs.

  • Assist with daily pick-ups from schools.

  • Support maintaining all afterschool spaces in an organized, clean & operational manner.

Qualifications


  • Experience working with children grades K-5; plan & deliver age appropriate activities.

  • Be at least 18 years old & a High School graduate. Completion of college courses preferred.

  • Committed to development, creation & modeling positive children's learning environments.

  • Able to work well with others as an effective team member.

  • California Driver's License Class C required; Class B license especially welcome.

Every aspect of the Elan Preschool program is designed to help each child reach towards his/her true potential. We have consistently found that children are far brighter and capable than they are allowed to be. Every child is waiting to be discovered then allowed to learn at a speed matched to that particular child. An Individual program is therefore an ideal that allows each child to flourish, rather than just a few.

We have a Toddler Teacher position open. It is a full-time position (8:30 A.M - 5:00 P.M) position serving children ages 3 - 5 years old. We have well-equipped classrooms and an outside environment which includes a large playground with lots of area to run, climb and ride bikes. Elan offers a self-paced program that teaches the children responsibility, teamwork and of course all the basics.

The ideal candidate can take an active role in helping children and enjoy doing so. This position is responsible for the care of the students, managing diaper changing, potty training, sanitizing the classroom, cleaning after meals and activities and coaching the children as they develop self-help skills.

At the end of the day our smaller groups become one large group with activities for all children combined, ages 2-5 yrs.

Education and Training Requirements:


  • 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units required


  • Preschool Teaching experience is preferred


  • Live Scan fingerprints clearance

Innovate also offers eight hours per year floating holiday, and four hours per year paid volunteering time off. Innovate also provides a reimbursement of up to $80 per month to compensate for your usage of a personal cell phone for work purposes.

Apple Swift Coding Instructor: Part-time, non-exempt | 8-15 hours per week | $20 per hour

Robotics Coach: Part-time, non-exempt | 2-6 hours per week | $25 per hour

Apple Swift Coding Instructor:

Apple Swift is a robust and intuitive programming language created by Apple for building apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. It’s designed to give developers more freedom than ever. Swift is easy to use and open source, so anyone with an idea can create something incredible.

The responsibility of the Apple Swift Coding Instructor is to guide 9th grade students through a provided curriculum using iPad apps. Curriculum will guide and support both learners and instructors such that no prior coding knowledge or experience is required. Facilitator is responsible for sharing feedback on curriculum in order to support program refinements and for meeting additional responsibilities as assigned by the Student Life Director or College Track San Francisco staff.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or currently working toward degree

  • A passion for College Track’s work

  • Previous teaching or workshop facilitation experience strongly preferred

  • Strong classroom management skills

  • A willingness to learn about coding alongside high school learners and colleagues

  • An interest in developing youth as community and STEM leaders

  • Availability to participate in and support with one leadership building event per class cycle (per academic semester)

  • A creative, growth mindset

  • Potential new-hire must be available to attend Apple Professional Learning Training on January 24, 2020

  • 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Meet with Student Life Director to review lesson for the week. Discuss areas of strength and growth from the previous week, and align on objective for current week.

  • 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Preparation for programming - arrange iPads and Apple pencils; make sure devices have all necessary systems updates, apps, and content loaded prior to students arriving; arrange supplemental equipment (e.g. projector, speaker system, etc.).

  • 4:30 PM - 4:40 PM: Unity Circle - A daily ritual that brings together everyone present at the site to build community.

  • 4:40 PM - 5:40 PM: Period 1 - Facilitation of Apple Swift Coding lesson.

  • 5:40 PM - 5:50 PM: 10-minute Break

  • 5:50 PM - 6:50 PM Period 2: Facilitation of Apple Swift Coding lesson.

Robotics Coach:

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is an international youth organization that operates a number of youth-based STEM-oriented competitions such as FIRST Robotics and FIRST Tech Challenge. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders and innovators of the next generation. By engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, FIRST inspires innovation and fosters well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

The responsibility of the Robotics Coach is to guide and mentor students with varying technology skill levels through the process of designing, building, and operating a robot. The robot kit is reusable from year to year and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or currently working toward degree

  • A passion for College Track’s work

  • Experience in one or more of the following technical areas is highly desirable: Leadership Management, Technical Management, Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotic Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Industrial Fabrication

What you’ll do:

Commit to work for the current academic year.  Consistent, ongoing support is necessary for the children and teachers with whom we work.

Utilize the Reading Partners’ curriculum to tutor/mentor students.

Review student progress notes and prior assessment notes prior to each tutoring session, then complete progress notes after each tutoring session.

Be punctual, attentive, and engaged in tutoring sessions. Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performances are unacceptable and are grounds for discipline up to and including dismissal.

Assist in running the tutoring center, including substitute tutoring, assisting in preparing and coordinating tutoring materials for volunteers.

Be willing to travel to schools in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Milpitas or Redwood City

Be willing to work between 15 and 18 hours per week.

Anticipate challenges and/or questions, and proactively act to address them. Understand larger strategic priorities and make measurable progress against these larger goals. Position Description   

The after-school program, known as The Neighborhood, is open to Presidio Hill School students (TK-8th grade) from dismissal (between 2:45 and 3:30pm - staggered dismissal time) until 6pm. We seek to create a safe and fun space where the students can spend their afternoons engaged in free play, social growth, academic time, and enrichment opportunities (such as cooking, arts & crafts, group games, etc). We’re seeking someone to join a team of 4, a director and three teachers, who make up the after-school staff. General work hours would be approximately 2:30-6pm primarily with grades 3-8. In addition, there are some mandatory all day camp and evening childcare responsibilities in which you will be scheduled for longer shifts (generally 10-6pm). 

Primary Responsibilities  

~Supervise students in grades TK-8 in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.

~Develop positive relationships with the students and serve as a role model.

~Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural education and guidelines.

During the Neighborhood Program:  

~Assist grades 3-8 with homework during daily academic time. 

~Plan fun games, activities and projects that encompass the arts, science, cooking and recreation.  

~Help prepare and cleanup snack and activities.  

~Report to the After-School Enrichment Program (AEP) Director. The AEP Director may assign additional duties.   

During Camp Weeks/ All Day Childcare Days 

~Plan and lead fun games, activities and projects that encompass the arts, science, cooking, and recreation for grades TK-5. 

~Supervise students on daily field trips to local parks and museums.  

~Ensure all students are safe, being included and having fun!

The Canvassing Manager works on specific regional campaigns incoordination with  Innovate’s Organizing team.  S/He will work 4 days a week in San Francisco and 1 day a week in another region (San Jose, Redwood City, or East Palo Alto), based primarily in Innovate’s San Francisco office and reporting to a lead organizer or designated supervisor in San Francisco.  The Canvassing Manager will be expected to work varying hours, including weekends and evenings. This role requires constant use of independent judgment, self motivation, and the capability to complete job responsibilities  with minimal support and supervision. As the Canvassing Manager, your objectives will be to:


  • Work with Innovate staff to refine and manage canvassing strategy for organizational campaigns in San Francisco and across regions.

  • Build a base of supporters in our focus regions of the Bay Area.

  • Manage a team of 2+ canvassers based in SF, as well as train and provide support and development for a team of 6+ paid part-time canvassers in other parts of the Bay Area.

Job Responsibilities 


  • Managing a team of canvassers to further Innovate’s education campaigns in San Jose, San Francisco, and the Peninsula


    • Scheduling the canvassing team’s shifts to maximize their outreach and  impact

    • Shadowing canvassers to offer feedback and support for professional development and overall quality and work with Supervisor to develop bi-monthly professional development plans for canvassing team

    • Drafting a script and talking points to be approved by the supervisor and organizing team leads for each campaign

    • Meeting weekly with supervisor and attending all staff meetings in order to effectively develop a weekly schedule, assign canvassing locations, and establish the focus of canvassing field work



  • Direct canvassing in San Francisco as needed and scouting of potential canvassing locations

  • Working closely with and taking direction from the assigned organizing team and supervisor 

  • Working with appropriate staff and supervisors to assist in the development of campaigns, regional canvassing strategies, and canvassing team professional development

  • Participating in Innovate’s professional development program, including completing the Community Organizer Training Program and attending the Annual Parent Leader Institute 

  • Support hiring managers in regions outside of San Francisco in the canvasser recruitment and hiring processes; lead the hiring for San Francisco canvassers

  • Working with the organizing teams to identify new campaigns and potential turfs to canvass within each assigned region

  • Coordinating data system input by canvassers and ensuring that data is updated and followed up on by the organizing team or appropriate staff 

Qualifications

Required


  • At least one (1) year experience canvassing and/or signature gathering for a campaign or political/social reform organization


    • Experience making strategic decisions about creating effective canvassing strategies, determining how and where to deploy people and resources

    • Experience in moving community members to participate in organizing campaigns such as converting large numbers of canvassing leads/contacts to community events, 1-1’s, and other participatory actions.  



  • Fluency in speaking and writing Spanish is required

  • Experience managing staff and volunteers, including part-time employee schedules and timesheets 

  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills

  • Strong interpersonal, written and public speaking skills, particularly in communicating Innovate’s work to staff and the general public

  • Clear understanding and alignment with Innovate’s mission and theory of change

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation depends on experience and is highly competitive. Innovate offers very generous benefits for half-time employees, including 5% employer contribution to 401k, as well as paid time off (PTO) at a rate of 0.077 hours of PTO per hour worked (after two years, this increases to 0.096 hours of PTO per hour worked). Innovate also offers eight hours per year floating holiday, and four hours per year paid volunteering time off. Innovate also provides a reimbursement of up to $80 per month to compensate for your usage of a personal cell phone for work purposes.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Serve as a steward for the school's content strategy, brand identity, and creative storytelling.

  • Implement and evolve the communications and marketing strategy and annual plan.

  • Proactively monitor and maintain the School’s online brand including ensuring search engine optimization and updating School description on review sites.

  • Manage photography and videography of school events and key activities for use in publications, the school website, and social media. Grow and manage a digital photo and video library.

  • Help train and support the internal community on established style and brand guidelines and review major school communications prior to distribution.

  • Create, design, and help distribute a variety of event invitations, communications, and signage, and interface with vendors to ensure a quality end-product.

Skills & Qualifications:


  • Excellent writer/editor with a passion and understanding for storytelling across formats and channels

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8-10 years experience in a comparable role

Position Summary: The primary responsibilities of the Events Coordinator and Administrative Assistant are to plan and lead SJND’s fundraising, alumni, and other campus events as needed, and to provide administrative assistance support for ongoing projects in the Advancement Department. The role requires someone who is a self-starter, who is flexible and who is comfortable multi-tasking. The role requires someone who is effective managing teams of volunteers as well as working collaboratively with various school departments. 

Administrative Duties:


  • Provide administrative assistance and project support to the Advancement department.

  • Assist the Development Associate with data entry projects.

  • Manage the Advancement department’s student and summer interns as well as other office volunteers.

  • Lead the coordination and production of department mailings. 

  • Support the Assistant Principal of Institutional Advancement with clerical tasks related to administration of the school’s endowment fund.

  • Take minutes at Advancement and school committee meetings as needed.

  • Organize and maintain Advancement department records, office files, office supplies and other materials as necessary.

  • Organize Advancement Department events supplies and archival storage spaces.

Event Planning:


  • Partner with Assistant Principal and volunteer steering committees to develop and implement fundraising goals and secure sponsorships and donations for the school’s two largest annual fundraising events.

  • Bring creative ideas and strategies to help achieve fundraising and community building goals. 

  • Works with Advancement staff and other schoolwide staff in the planning of alumni, donor and other events as needed.

  • Works with marketing staff in the production of event invitations, digital and print.

  • Manages event registration and the auction software.

  • Organizes event meetings – volunteer recruitment, kick-off, training, logistics.

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers and volunteer committees to ensure successful implementation of events including delivery of sponsor benefits, food service, entertainment and speakers, and staging.

  • Secures all school site resources, catering, rentals, licensing and staffing needed for successful events. 

Skills and Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required

  • Motivated by mission, enjoys implementing fundraising and sponsorship strategies for events, and meeting and exceeding revenue goals to drive support for mission 

  • Demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible and well-organized

  • New member contracts in MindBody Online.

  • Order of supplies and work with vendors.

  • Keep studio supplied with “special touches” such as fruit for the water and fresh plants/flowers.
