Position Overview

The Rookie/Vet Program Leader position is a part-time position within the Community Programs Department and on the Eureka team. The Rookie/Vet Program Leader will facilitate engaging STEAM and leadership development programming through hands on activities, field trips, and career exposure to girls in 8th & 9th grade who are enrolled in our 5-year Eureka! Program for the school year. Rookie/Vet program leader facilitates classes 3-4 days a week at the Girls Inc. downtown location or at the Girls Inc. satellite location in East Oakland in-person or virtually. The candidate for the Rookie/Vet program leader position will be able to make a commitment to work for the 2020-2021 academic school year.

The Rookie/Vet Program Leader may occasionally be on call for subbing for other sites/programs within the Community Programs Department. In addition to those duties, all Program Leaders will support girls' academic progress. The Rookie/Vet program leader will work with peers, supervisor and program manager to coach girls to develop their organization, time management, and study skills while provide homework assistance in math, science, history/social science, English and writing.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, modify and deliver STEAM and leadership skills development lessons to meet program goals for up to 20-30 students that will spark curiosity, creativity, independence, positive risk-taking and confidence in girls.


• Create a safe, respectful youth development-based learning environment.


• Create and review weekly lesson plans with the Eureka Teen Achievement Program Coordinator prior to delivery.


• Develop creative and engaging projects to enhance students’ learning.


• Implement lesson plans that are culturally relevant for a diverse population of students.


• Implement lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards, Youth Development and trauma-informed practices.


• Organize classroom to facilitate independence, leadership and self-control in students.


• Participate in quarterly evening or weekend events and fieldtrips with participants and their families.


• Supervise youth at STEAM and Leadership related field trips to technology related businesses, community organizations, museums, etc.


• Work closely with Site Coordinators and school staff to track participants’ progress.


• Supervise and support adult and teen volunteers.


• Work as a team member with the Program Coordinator, Program Manager, and other Program Instructors.


• Collaborate with community partners to supplement program activities


• Participate in mandatory weekly individual supervision, staff development, consultation, training, and team meetings.


• Maintain organization of program space, communal supplies and paperwork.


• Effectively utilize prep time to prepare for activities and classroom observations.


• Assist with administrative tasks as needed including recruitment, orientations, materials organization, and lesson plan preparation.


• Perform other duties as assigned in person or virtual workspace.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the nurturing care and supervision  of children ages 2 – 5 years old. The Lead Teacher reports to the  Director and/or Associate Director. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Early Childhood Development

• Facilitate and supervise all daily activities to ensure a nurturing, friendly, and supportive learning environment;

• Maintain communication with parents concerning child’s development  including conducting two parent/teacher conferences and/or additional  conferences if needed or requested by parent;

• Work with parents to promote understanding of their child’s growth and  development; encourage parent participation in school programs.

 

Administrative

• Manage and supervise on-sight staff including planning and conduction  weekly staff meetings, disseminating program instructions and  information from the Director or Associate Director, assigning daily  duties and assisting in training teachers, teacher aids and volunteers;

• Assist the Director/Associate Director in the evaluation of your classroom staff;

• Collaborate and participate in all school fundraisers and JCYC agency events;

• Participate in advocacy initiatives prioritized by JCYC;

JOB QUALIFICATION

EDUCATION:  BA Degree in Early Childhood or related field.

EnCorps STEM Teachers Program’s vision is to realize a day where all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, are inspired and prepared to pursue their dreams. STEM Teaching Fellows transition to teaching careers within 1-3 years with the support of EnCorps training, guest teaching field experience, credentialing guidance, EnCorps cohort and the EnCorps network of schools. When you become an EnCorps Fellow, you are committing to providing access to quality education within low income schools, supporting students who need your mentorship the most.

The EnCorps team will provide guidance as you begin the process to become a credentialed teacher. Additionally, the broad network of fellows provides first hand experience from people who, like you, transitioned into a teaching career.

Fellowship details:

• Fellows earn their credential from a university partner over the course of 4-14 months


• EnCorps will place you in a local partner school for 1 semester where you will spend 2-5 hours per week as a volunteer Guest Teacher


• Fellows train online/on-demand and at 3 in-person cohort events each year by participating in enhanced skills preparation workshops


• Fellows receive extensive support and mentoring from the EnCorps staff, their cohort, and EnCorps’ network of schools


• With the help of EnCorps, you will develop your unique timeline to become a credentialed, paid teacher, in as little as 9 months, or 3 years depending on your personal goals.

Minimum requirements:

• Have a bachelor's degree 


• Have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience or have an advanced degree in a STEM field*


• Financial plan to pursue your credential and participate in unpaid Guest Teaching Training for one semester

We are currently open 7:30am - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday,  and are actively seeking qualified applicants that are available to work anytime, depending on the needs of the center and are looking to commit to an Early Childhood Program for at least one year.  

The ideal candidate has at least 12 ECE or Human Development units.  Qualified candidates please email your resume with your transcripts as an attachment. If qualified a zoom interview will be conducted. After the initial interview if we feel you are a possible fit for our Preschool culture you will be invited to do a working interview.
