Culinary Instructor

  • This is a full-time, immediately available position

  • Hours 8:00-3:30 M-F following a school calendar

  • Primary responsibility is developing a student culinary curriculum and providing culinary instruction

As a Culinary Instructor and Meal Service Coordinator, you will:

  • Take ownership of creating a culinary program-including curriculum & instruction

  • Prepare, clean and maintain professional kitchen equipment

  • Provide direct instructional support to students in culinary arts.

  • Engage students in achieving vocational and behavioral goals

  • Instruct special education students with varying abilities

  • Prepare students for post-secondary success

  • Consult with clinical staff and the educational team in implementing classroom interventions in order to meet academic and social-emotional needs of the student.

  • Guide students helping them to prepare and serve 50-70 people at each meal

  • Keep Records

  • Stock and Store Food

  • On an as-needed basis, help cover breakfast and lunch service in the absence of staff


  • IL Professional Educator’s License (PEL), strongly preferred

  • Vocational Teaching Certification preferred, but not required

  • Substitute Teaching Certification, preferred if candidate does not possess a PEL.

  • Experience with the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs a plus

  • Working in criminal justice or military food-service a plus

  • Food Service Safety Manager Certification (FSSMC) license, ideal but not required.

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs

  • Previous experience working with special needs children preferred

  • Prefer at least one of the following:

    • Special education vocational training

    • Nutrition service or Foodservice supervision

    • Food service training

    • Job Corp foodservice experience

    • Military or private sector foodservice and training

    • Any other relevant culinary, nutrition service, cafeteria or foodservice experience.

Baltimore Chef Shop is an *award winning teaching kitchen located in the heart of the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore Maryland. Our focus is on technique and the curriculum is based upon those used in degree/diploma issuing institutions.

We are currently interviewing for part time culinary instructors who can demonstrate a wide range of technical knowledge and skill. Candidates should be familiar with a variety of culinary approaches ranging from basic knife skills, to sausage making, to regional chinese cooking and more. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to learn and teach topics and types of cuisines previously unfamiliar to them. Training provided. Our approach is based in culinary technique, along with knowledge of ingredients, styles, and traditions relative to the given cuisine.

This is a part time staff position.

The number of hours worked per week is dependant upon the number of classes taught. Classes are scheduled for 3 hours of contact time with students, 4 hours total time commitment per class.

Chefs are responsible for delivery of lecture material and will also assist with set up prior to the class and breakdown after the class.

Culinary degree or commensurate culinary education experience is mandatory.
