Swim Instruction for children (ages 6 months +) and adults. Responsible for groups of up to 4 to 6 swimmers at a time or private 1:1 lessons. Swim instructors that have been certified as Water Safety Instructors and who currently hold Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications will be considered for employment first. Applicants with past swim team experience are also great candidates. Swim Instructors will be trained to teach with our methodologies after hired for employment. Applicants educated in child development, psychology and lifesaving skills are highly encouraged to apply.

Lifeguards must have Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certifications to be considered for any Lifeguarding jobs. Lifeguarding shifts are assigned as they come in and can vary from 2-5 hour shifts. (paid for a minimum of 2 hours)

Seahorse Swim School is hiring motivated, energetic and reliable Swim Instructors and Lifeguards for Spring, Summer and Fall swim programs. We teach all ages, levels and abilities to swim aged 6 months and up. Applicants that are hired in Spring are expected to be available for work in the Summer and Fall to maintain consistency in instructors from March to October. (You must be able to work in the Summer too).

Hours avail to teach: Tues/Thurs 2-6pm and Saturdays 9 -1 (sometimes 2) pm at Aptos location. Lifeguarding jobs are available with us throughout the County in the Spring, Summer and early Fall and are at private locations that are mostly Sat and Sun from 2-5pm. Jobs are assigned as they come up. Travel stipends are paid to travel to each location as well and you will be paid a minimum of 2 hours for any guarding job.

Pay starts at $14/hr while training, goes up to $15/hr once you are able to take on your own classes, and then is increased based on job performance, reliability and consistency. Those with experience teaching, come with good/great references and also hold a current LGT cert, will start at $15/hr (or more) as we would assume you would take on your own classes sooner and would be raised based on job performance, reliability and consistency.

Every aspect of the Elan Preschool program is designed to help each child reach towards his/her true potential. We have consistently found that children are far brighter and capable than they are allowed to be. Every child is waiting to be discovered then allowed to learn at a speed matched to that particular child. We have a Toddler Teacher position open. It is a full-time position (8:30 A.M - 5:00 P.M) position serving children ages 3 - 5 years old. We have well-equipped classrooms and an outside environment which includes a large playground with lots of area to run, climb and ride bikes. Elan offers a self-paced program that teaches the children responsibility, teamwork and of course all the basics.

The ideal candidate can take an active role in helping children and enjoy doing so. Responsibilities

The Communications Associate will be focused on creating powerful written and multimedia content, as well as managing our social media presence and regional email campaigns to engage and grow our audience of parents, education advocates, and elected officials. This is the ideal role for someone who is passionate about graphic design, social media, measuring impact, working on political campaigns, raising up marginalized voices, and collaborating with diverse groups of co-workers (including researchers, teachers, and community organizers). 

You should be eager to produce a high volume of quality content to support our community organizing work. You should have basic photo, video, and social media skills, and be interested in strengthening your paid media, digital research, analytics, and community management skills. The position reports to the Regional Vice President for the Peninsula. This person will support both our Peninsula team (40%), San Francisco team (40%) as well as cross-regional communications (20%). It will require regular travel throughout the Bay Area and could be based out of our San Francisco or Redwood City office.

 

A Day In the Life


  • You start your day responding to messages and comments from users on Facebook.

  • From there, you look at the Facebook pages of Innovate partner organizations and peers to see if there are any cross-promotional opportunities or ideas for new content.

  • By mid-morning, you are drafting new creative assets in support of our latest campaign event or data release.

  • Midday, you attend a team strategy meeting with community organizers, a researcher, and a schools expert to discuss overall campaign progress and next steps. 

  • In the early afternoon, you check and track the metrics for the content you created and posted the previous week, taking note of any insights from these metrics and sharing them with the campaign team.

  • In the late afternoon, you design a bilingual flyer for an event one of our organizers is hosting.

  • Before you head out, you put the final touches on an email and schedule it to go out to subscribers the following morning. 

 

Major Responsibilities


  • Visual Steward: Own and implement the various elements of the Innovate style guide across digital and print assets.

  • Graphic Design: Create compelling visual multimedia content designed to engage Innovate’s target audiences, including images for social media and blogs, designing flyers, and touching up reports.

  • Community Management: Represent Innovate online through robust and consistent community management in our brand voice.

  • Social Media Content Creation: Own content creation for Innovate’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

  • Paid Media Support: In collaboration with the Regional VP, plan, execute, and measure digital marketing campaigns supporting regional goals.

  • Subscriber Communications: Draft and send weekly emails to our regional subscribers; occasionally draft and send text messages to regional subscribers; coordinate with other regions on overall editorial calendar for all subscribers. 

  • Photo & Video Management: Capture photo and video as needed; occasionally manage external photographers and videographers to capture photo and video of Innovate events; manage photo and video file storage. 

  • Metrics and Analytics: Regularly track the performance of social media content and paid advertising

  • Digital Research: Leverage both quantitative data and insights and qualitative learnings to support the development of Innovate products, organizing campaigns, and messaging

  • Web Content: Update Innovate’s website content to ensure it reflects and supports campaign goals.

Innovate is proud to be partnering deeply with the Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto, CA, as they work to transform themselves into one of the best districts in the Bay Area. Ravenswood is a small K-8 district with a high-need student population that has faced declining enrollment and significant teacher turnover. Under the leadership of a new school board and Superintendent, Ravenswood has laid out a new strategic plan and is tackling many of its underlying challenges. The district is attracting significant philanthropic and community support as it seeks to invest in students and staff to ensure that Ravenswood schools offer a world-class education to all students.

Innovate is supporting Ravenswood in multiple ways, including through our flagship , a year-long leadership development program aimed at supporting school leaders to create and/or lead successful schools, with a particular emphasis on students of color and low-income students. In addition, Innovate supports the design and implementation of high quality leadership development systems across schools, districts, and organizations and conducts intensive school audits focused on improving management, instruction, and school culture.

OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the VP, Schools and the Regional VP, Peninsula, the Senior Program Manager, Leadership Development will primarily coach and support school leaders in the Ravenswood City School District as they work to transform their schools into some of the best in the Bay Area. Additionally, this individual will lead a major element of Innovate’s broader school support work, such as our School Site Review process or our program. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a successful former school leader with a demonstrated track record of academic achievement with low-income students. We are seeking someone who is energized by coaching transformational leaders and leading program design efforts for a fast-paced, results-oriented organization that is making a huge difference in the quality of schools in the Bay Area. This position will focus on schools in East Palo Alto, working out of our Redwood City, San Jose or San Francisco office spaces, and will involve significant local travel within the 

San Francisco Bay Area.

Start date: Summer 2020 (or sooner, if candidate is available)

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide individualized leadership coaching, primarily to school leaders in Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto

  • Serve as an active member of Innovate’s Schools team, including designing and facilitating World-Class Schools fellowship sessions, and leading a programmatic element of Innovate’s school support work.

  • Serve as an active and effective member of Innovate’s Peninsula team, collaborating with teammates to achieve the region’s campaign goals

  • Collaborate closely with the Innovate parent organizers who are working closely with parents in each Ravenswood school 

  • Respond to emerging needs of the organization, as determined by the VP, Schools and Regional VP, Peninsula.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Passion for Innovate Public Schools’ mission to initiate, support, and advocate for great public schools for low-income children and children of color.

  • At least 2-3 years of school leadership experience in a high-performing public school serving low-income students of color, with a proven track record of accelerating student academic achievement gains;

  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional coaching and mentoring to school leaders;

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver leadership development designed to increase academic achievement within schools 

  • Experience leading people through a time of significant change, ideally in a school turnaround setting 

  • Deep commitment to elevating parent voice and developing parents as leaders.

  • Superior written, verbal and presentation communication skills with the ability to quickly and clearly convey complex topics to multiple audiences;

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to create positive, trusting, and professional relationships with a diverse range of audiences, partners and constituent groups;

  • Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to contribute to setting vision and strategic direction;

  • Start-up orientation, with the ability to excel in a work environment requiring flexibility, self-motivation, self-directed problem-solving, collaborative work style, results-orientation, sense of urgency and enthusiasm;

  • Proven ability to create strong school cultures rooted in an understanding of issues of equity, race, class, and restorative practices strongly preferred;

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, Master’s degree in education, policy, school leadership or related field preferred;

  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.

Job Description:

The mission of the American Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We help increase the preparedness of our communities by offering courses in First Aid, CPR/AED, Babysitter's Training, Lifeguard Training, Certified Nurse Aid Training and other certification courses. American Red Cross Health and Safety instructors are an elite group of professionals who teach valuable lifesaving skills to 12 million people each year in businesses, schools and communities.

Responsibilities


  • Instruction: Teaches Red Cross Health and Safety courses within their current certifications to businesses and to the community. Confirms course at least 3-5 business days before the scheduled course. Must arrive to teaching site a minimum 30 minutes before class is to begin.

  • Supply Chain/Logistics: Responsible for maintaining, managing and storing all assigned equipment, including storage at assigned work location and transporting equipment in personal vehicle. Responsible for re-ordering all necessary equipment at least once per month and maintaining and managing an active inventory of supplies at all times. Instructors are responsible for transporting, loading/unloading, carrying and/or lifting equipment as necessary at assigned teaching locations. At conclusion of class, is responsible for the cleaning equipment according to established decontamination guidelines and reporting any maintenance issues to the appropriate logistics staff member.

  • Quality Assurance: Responsible for applying quality assurance and control programs. Integrates quality improvement activities and measures in overall service provision. Ensures that the proper safety measures are in place to protect customers and staff who participate in the training activities.

  • Resource Management: Responsible for efficient and effective use of resources. Adheres to the financial and registration policy regarding unregistered students in Community classes.

  • Availability:Commit to a fixed availability schedule within the scheduling software, Skedulo to meet teaching needs of the territory.

  • Communications/Reporting: Engages in regular communications with Training Specialist regarding course updates and latest changes to products/services. Actively submits unavailability requests, as necessary, in Skedulo when not available to be assigned to classes. Submits training activity and other course related records according to standard timelines. Where applicable, training and course-related records must be submitted electronically using the American Red Cross web-based learning center. The instructor is required to use the corporate email account (@Redcross.org) issued to him/her upon hire, for all American Red Cross related correspondence.

  • Personnel Management: When an instructor's certification is at the level of an Instructor Trainer, they may mentor or coach other instructors as a part of new instructor orientation or during instructor remediation provide supervision to instructors to ensure high quality delivery of services and products.

  • Additional duties may include the following: Participation during Town Hall Meetings, quarterly In- Service Training, Product updates, training requirement, certification classes and approved development training. In addition instructors may need to perform light logistics such as restocking of equipment. This activity must be pre-approved by Training Specialist.

Qualifications

Education:High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).Current certification to be an instructor in discipline is desired. Additional training and certification will be provided to qualified candidate after hire through American Red Cross Health & Safety Service courses. Once certified, the instructor must maintain current basic and instructor level certifications for the courses they have been hired to teach.

Experience:Previous experience in education, adult training or service industry preferred. Basic computer and email skills and demonstrated ability to utilize MS Office programs

Comfort and experience in using audio-visual technology (computer/LCD, PowerPoint, etc.) for educational delivery.

Skills and Abilities:Must have strong presentation abilities and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate course material in a clear and understandable manner. Customer service orientation. Ability to teach effectively in an adult learning environment.

Other: Flexible schedule required during the day, evening or weekends.

Travel:Ability to travel regionally 50-75%. Current Driver's License preferred. Access to reliable transportation to training sites.
