Job Summary 


The Collision Estimator functions as the first point of contact to our customer and communicates closely with them throughout the entire repair process. They are the connection between the back of the shop and our customer to ensure we deliver a high-quality product, in a timely manner as expected by our customer. They build relationships and trust by thoroughly explaining the collision and paint process, setting expectations and continuous communication after drop-off. They follow their customers vehicles throughout the process to ensure that it’s being completed as promised and on time.


Duties



  • Respond to online inquiries submitted through our Online Estimator tool or email 

  • Answer the phone and schedule appointments from call in inquiries

  • Inspect customer vehicle and provide written estimates for scheduled appointments and walk-in customers

  • Document and obtain pictures of vehicle

  • Obtain repair authorizations

  • Obtain down payments for parts as required

  • Shop and order parts

  • Process insurance claims and submit supplements

  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings to gather vehicle updates and prioritize work in queue

  • Walk the shop to monitor the progress of your customers vehicles

  • Follow-up with the customer daily to provide updates on the status of the vehicle

  • Inspect completed vehicles prior to scheduling the customer for delivery

  • Deliver the vehicle and collect final payment

  • Educate the customer on post-delivery maintenance

  • Follow safety and compliance requirements

  • Maintain order and professional image of the sales area and lobby


Requirements



  • 1 Year Sales and Customer Service Experience in a Automotive Collision Environment

  • 1 Year experience using Estimating software such as Audatex, CCC or Mitchell

  • Valid Drivers License

  • I-Car Platinum Certification or williness to obtain certification

Responsibilities


  • Repairs vehicles per estimate and according to manufacturer standards.

  • Check parts against estimate and ensures proper parts are ordered and received.

  • Prepares vehicles for body repair work.

  • Notifies management of any additional repairs needed. Documents additional parts and labor required to perform a satisfactory repair.

Qualifications


  • Two or more years related experience as a collision repair technician with heavy structural collision and frame experience.

  • ICAR or ASE certifications in auto body repair, painting and estimating, a plus.

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of repairs for damaged vehicles including body work and when to replace or repair parts.

The collision technician performs high-quality repairs to collision damaged components and assemblies.


Essential Duties


The essential duties of this position are:



  • Disassemble and reassemble vehicle components and assemblies

  • Remove, install and align welded-on and bolted-on parts

  • Perform MIG and STRSW welding

  • Perform steel sheet metal repairs

  • Perform plastic and composite repairs

  • Prepare all repair areas for refinish procedures

  • Protect adjacent panels and vehicle from additional damage

  • Identify all secondary damage and communicate findings to allow for required approvals and invoicing of additional repairs

  • Perform test drives

  • Keep work area clean and organized

  • Keep shop equipment clean and in good working condition

  • Assist other technicians as needed

  • Follow and comply with all standard operating procedures.

  • Assist in developing or refining standard operating procedures as required

  • Follow and comply with all required health and safety requirements

  • Maintains acceptable appearance

  • Complies with and follows all scheduled work hours and attendance policies

  • Complies with the business code of conduct and other policies

Knowledge and Skills

Responsibilities:


 Body Shop Technicians are responsible for:



  • Examines damaged vehicle and efficiently plans repair process.

  • Works and communicates with others on vehicle repair status.

  • Performs quality repairs while keeping on-time status in mind.

  • Makes decisions on repair vs. replace considering safety, cost and cycle time.

  • Participates in all required safety meetings.

  • Directs the work of a helper in the performance of tasks when needed, i.e., unusual problems or questions and explains procedures to assistant.
     


Requirements:


Body Shop Technicians are required to meet the following:



  • Minimum of 6 months experience working in a collision or body shop

  • Ability to use frame machine

  • Certification in body repair preferred.

  • Knowledge of vehicle repair process by manufacturer.

  • I-CAR welding certified.

  • Skill in analyzing and interpreting measuring data.

  • Ability to supervise repair personnel.

John Harris Body Shops, a growing, family-owned, automotive collision repair company, is seeking Painters, Heavy Body Technicians and Tear Down/Reassembly Technicians for our stores in South Carolina and Georgia. We have opened four stores in the last two years and currently planning three more for 2019.


A Painter needs to be able to prepare and apply paint using a water based paint. Ability to do final sanding, masking, color mixing and tinting. Ability to apply primers, sealers, colors, clear coats and the ability to color match. Must be able to operate a spray booth efficiently and safely.


For a Heavy Body Technician, the qualified candidate will have established frame skills, pulling skills and measuring skills. Experience on a Car-O-Liner a must. Must be proficient at quarter panel replacements, pillar replacements, roof skin replacements and rail replacements. Experience with a bench and vision system, and resistant welders a plus.

A technician for tear down/reassembly must be a team player, pay attention to the smallest of detail, knowledge of vehicles to know what is damaged and/or how to put them back together. Ability to install car stereos a plus.

Must have a High School Diploma/GED and/or an associate's degree in auto repair, 2 to 5 years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver's license and must be able to pass a drug screen.

We are a high-volume body shop seeking a SALES oriented, highly motivated professional to write repair plans and help manage vehicle disassembly, parts ordering, scheduling and production and assist in oversight of other aspects of shop operations. This includes DRP estimating, production scheduling, and insurance company activities notifications and file handling requirements.
