BARISTA

Rasa Caffe, near Ashby BART, is looking for enthusiastic and upbeat applicants who are friendly and outgoing. Applicant must be capable of treating guests with kindness and respect especially during (Corona V-19). We are very busy even with the Shelter (Corona V-19) still in place.

Applicant must have a flexible schedule and be open to learning our drink set up and willing to commit to up  3-4 shifts per week. A six-month to one-year minimum commitment is required .

A one year minimum of Barista  experience is required working with specialty coffee and use of an espresso machine. 

We are a small coffee & tea establishment that roaster our coffee, makes our Chai in house , and  produces our specialty drinks essences ( syrups) from original recipes.Training  of our system will be offered to qualified applicants. There will  also be incentives as the coffee bar grows.

Responsibilities of Café Team Members:

Team player capable of working in a small space


  • High standard of customer service; positive demeanor

  • Must be able to work weekends/ mornings afternoons 

  • opening and closing cafe shifts

  • working within cafe guidelines on espresso calibration particular to our cafe and espresso bar etiquette.  Knowledge of Latte art the aesthetics of the process. 

  • Multi tasking

  • Reliable: will arrive at work on time and follow café dress code and etiquette

  • Working within the Covid-19 Shelter in place protocol Health codes  for Berkeley/Alameda County (CA 2020)

  • Quickly learn preparation of the menu of drinks served

  • Cleaning duties of caffe ( dishes , sweeping, etc..


Qualified applicants will possess:


  • A current food handler’s card

  • Proper Coved-19 mask and attire for work shifts-  protocol Health codes for Berkeley/Alameda County (CA 2020)

  • Simple computer & math skills

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED


Hours: 20-30  hours a week

JOB DESCRIPTION: Lab Technician

Berkeley, CA

Part-time 24 Hours/week

Base Hourly Wage: $18/hour base wage, compensation based on experience

Benefits: 2 weeks paid vacation/year; health insurance premium reimbursement up to $300/month

ROLE: The part-time Lab Tech will support the team with daily operational tasks in the Red Fox lab as they pertain to sampling in all forms. A day's work will be spent ordering & receiving inbound samples, packaging & shipping outbound samples, sample preparation including measuring water activity and moisture content, physical grading, and roasting. The Lab Tech will keep the lab/office clean & organized. Attention to detail and strong organizational, time management, and communication skills are required. Flexibility, efficiency, and ability to cope with high volume are a must.

Lab Support


  • Sample intake: receiving samples, data entry into internal database, physical organization of samples

  • Implement SCA Arabica Green Grading when needed (will be trained upon hiring)

  • Take water activity & moisture readings, enter data into internal database

  • Prepare samples for roasting

  • Sample roast to Red Fox’s specifications (no roasting experience required/training provided upon hiring)

  • Manage lab organization and cleanliness 

Customer Service/Sales Support


  • Fulfill and track sample requests from customers, pack, label & send samples via USPS & DHL to customers in a timely fashion, enter data into internal database

  • Track sample inventory, reordering spot samples to maintain inventory

  • Report all incoming samples to team

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Set goals for retail team and model a positive teamwork environment

• Work well under pressure during the peak season of November/December

• Manage workflow to keep orders organized and going out in the order they came in

• Maintain a positive attitude to support both a positive customer service experience and to keep team members motivated.  Hold team members accountable for the customer experience they provide.  

• Work alongside team members on the floor to support team members and to constantly review the store environment to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement. Help increase sales and showcase seasonal offerings.

• Manage to Mariposa’s Quality Standards.  Manage with integrity, honesty, and knowledge of the gluten-free allergen market.

• Delegate and communicate responsibilities to team members to keep the bakeshop clean and operating smoothly.  Create an opening and closing checklists for team members.  

• Develop and support team members to achieve their goals at Mariposa.

• Hire and train new team members on processes in the Bakeshop, including cake writing, culinary and sandwich prep, pulling orders, helping customers, … etc.  Create weekly schedules.  Treat all employees fairly and equally.

• Ensure food quality and food safety. Maintain high sanitation and quality control standards especially in this COVID environment.

• Operate café within budget and labor ratio guidelines.

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE 

This position requires previous experience in management:

• Managerial experience in the food and beverage industry 2-4 years

• Supervision – 1-2 years

• Customer service experience in a café or restaurant environment – 1-2 years

• ServSafe Manager Certificate

 

JOB SKILLS

• Experience generating financial reports from Square POS system

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
