LIFEGUARD JOB DESCRIPTION*

 SUMMARY:  

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   


  1. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.

  2. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

  3. Always presents a professional appearance and attitude and maintains a high standard of customer service.

  4. Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.

  5. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.

  6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 · 16 and up

 · 6 months to 1-year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. 

· CPR Certified  

· Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training. 

 

   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  


  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.

  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.

  The Golden Rain Foundation is recruiting lifeguards to work at our 3 beautiful pool complexes located in the gated residential community of Rossmoor Walnut Creek. 

 This is a year-round position, full -time, part-time and on-call available, with varying seasonal, flexible, scheduled work hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 Under supervision, this position: 

§ enforces water safety rules;

Assistant Head Lifeguard

  This position assists the Head Lifeguard in providing direction and oversight to lifeguard staff in enforcing facility regulations, policies and procedures; serves as an escalation point for resident issues and questions; monitors activities in pool areas; may assist the Head Lifeguard in scheduling lifeguard staff; oversees lifeguard staff training, ensuring that all certifications are maintained in current status; prepares and maintains records and reports as required. This is a full-time benefits eligible position.   

 

· Assists in supervision of lifeguards, scheduling, etc. 

· Ensures Foundation policies and safety rules are followed; assists lifeguards as needed in maintaining discipline in pool areas; prepares reports of various types, maintains records as required, etc. 

· Welcomes residents and guests, answers questions about classes, schedules, policies, etc., pertaining to pools. 

· Performs all duties of lifeguard including cleaning of pools, decks, equipment; maintaining chemical balances, etc. 

· Oversees lifeguard staff training, ensuring that certification requirements are maintained, and leads in-service training as required. 

· Other duties as assigned falling within the purview of the Head Lifeguard and/or Director Resident Services.   

 

• Demonstrated excellence in customer service, time and priority management;

• Computer literacy in MS Office sufficient to meet record and reporting needs; 

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as lifeguard team lead;

JOB TITLE: LIFEGUARD- FT- P/T & SEASONAL


 


Under the general direction of the Aquatics Manager, this is skilled water safety work in preventing accidents and injuries at the Tidal Cove Water Park Facilities by minimizing and/or eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors. Lifeguards are responsible for protecting and safeguarding all water park activities such as Lazy river, Water Slides, Flow rider, children’s playground, and facility patrons by enforcing rules and regulations at all times to prevent injuries or loss of life through unsafe practices in and around the Water park. Work is performed independently in accordance with established procedures governing the use of the Water Park. This position does not provide direct supervision to other employees.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • The lifeguard will assist the Aquatics Manager and lead lifeguards in carrying out water park procedures.


  • Monitors the use of the water park rides, pools and rivers ; enforces safety rules, maintains order and discipline among hotel guest, daily admission, and other visitors at the hotel and/or water park and/or


  • Follows prescribed procedures in making pool rescues.



  • The lifeguard will rescue bathers in distress, apply resuscitation, and administer emergency care


    WHEN NEEDED.



  • Complete records and reports.



  • Participates in regular in-service trainings and exercises regularly to maintain fitness level (strength


    and endurance).




  • Briefly responds to public inquiries about the water park made by the water park guest, or during


    public meetings.



  • Assists in the maintenance of the office and camera room



  • Assisting in other routine activities relating to the park operations, such as inventory control, rescue


    equipment maintenance, etc.



  • Must have the ability to climb stairs and handle heights and to work outdoors



  • Lifeguard will rotate amongst the facility from rides to flow rider to swimming pools, children


    playground, camera room and rivers.

    NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE:

  • Water Safety Instructor (Preferred)


  • Pass a swimming performance test.


  • Always keep certifications current.


  • Skilled in operation of listed tools and equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; the ability to establish and maintain effective


    working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the public; and the

  • It is a requirement to have the ability to be scheduled as a lifeguards at other nearby facilities managed by Miami Lifeguards LLC including the Ability to work nights, evenings, weekends,


    holidays, and flexible schedules.



  • Ability to be scheduled at other nearby facilities managed by Miami Lifeguards LLC.



  • Full time lifeguards are required to work a minimum of 5 days per week and between 32 to 40 hrs per


    week. (weekends is required)



  • Part time lifeguards are required to work a minimum of 3 days per week and between 24 to 32 hrs per week.

Reports to: Deck Supervisor


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on a thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.

  2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.

  3. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.

  4. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.

  5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.

  6. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.

  7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.

  8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.

  9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.

  10. Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.

  11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.

  12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.

  13. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.


Education/Experience:  Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider is preferred.


Certificates and Licenses:  Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification recommended.

The position is available in multiple locations including Houston-Central, Katy (Cinco Ranch), Sugar Land (Riverstone), and our newest location, Cypress (Towne Lake). The Instructor position is responsible for teaching children ages 4 month to 12 years’ safety skills, confidence and technique using the Pengu Curriculum.


Qualifications:


-Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation to swimmers


-Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations


-Monitor swimming area and respond in the event of an emergency


-Evaluate swimmers’ skills and performance


-Adjust coaching techniques based on the strengths and weaknesses of swimmers

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas by 10-10 scanning.
2. Assist swimmers in distress.
3. Provide emergency medical assistance as trained to any person on the YMCA premise as
necessary.
4. Take and record chemical readings set forth by branch.
5. Follow YMCA Dress Code. Always wear a lifeguard shirt. Be identifiable.
6. Must attend staff meetings and in-service trainings.
7. Know emergency procedures and chain of command.
8. Know and operate physically challenged access equipment.
9. Cover and uncover the pool and change lane lines when applicable.
10.Complete incident reports as needed and contact supervisor if/when an emergency occurs.
11. Lifeguard must guard from elevated chair. Always carry first aid pack and rescue tube.
12. Must follow substitution procedures when finding a replacement.
13. Enforce and educate members about aquatic rules and procedures set forth by branch.
14. Help maintain emergency equipment. (Shepherd’s crook, buoy, ring buoy, spine board, etc.)
15.Report specific supply needs to supervisor.
16. Wash deck, maintain cleanliness and keep pool deck clear of any obstructions.
17. Use time clock for clocking in. Lifeguards need to be on deck 10 minutes before their shift.

certifications must complete either a cross over training to YMCA Lifeguard 2011 or the
complete YMCA Lifeguard 2011 within 90 days of employment.
3. First Aid, CPR/AED Certifications or an Emergency Medical Technician certificate of basic or
higher may be substituted for First Aid, CPR/AED.
4. Must be able to complete YMCA swim test and pass entry written test.
5. Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to
act in an emergency situation.
6. Worked in Aquatic environment for more than 2 years is recommended.

A Lifeguard's primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of patrons at an assigned aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. Lifeguards are responsible for enforcing all pool rules fairly and consistently. Lifeguards ensure proper pool water chemicals, record keeping and maintaining a clean and enjoyable aquatics facility. Lifeguards are also responsible for reporting any unsafe conditions or faulty equipment to their Supervisor.

General Function

POSITION SUMMARY: The lifeguard has a professional and moral obligation to prevent potential accidents and dangerous situations by enforcing the rules and regulations of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA’s Aquatic facilities and reacting to emergencies that may occur. Lifeguard primary responsibility of protecting lives by constantly scanning the aquatic facility to recognize swimmers in distress; wearing rescue tube and carrying mask/gloves while on stand or patrolling aquatic area edge. Lifeguard maintains aquatic area, including pool decks, splash pad, Kiwanis Pond and all restrooms.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Guards are responsible for the hours in which they are scheduled. Lifeguard will arrive a minimum of 10 minutes prior to their scheduled shift time and clock in. Once shift begins, guard is already on the lifeguard stand. - Maintains active and aggressive surveillance of all aquatic areas. - Checks for aquatic area for hazardous conditions when arriving, throughout shift, and at shift completion. - Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pools and all aquatic areas. - Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures. Once complete, will complete related reports as required. - Administers First aid, CPR, AED, and emergency oxygen (if certified) when needed without hesitation. - Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner, while being professional at all times. - Guard will understand and follow all opening and closing procedures, including but not limited to: moving blankets, bulkhead, lane lines etc. - Lifeguard will be in proper uniform for entire shift. Guards must wear: whistle, hip pack containing CPR mask and gloves, Red Lifeguard Shirt, and red/black lifeguard shorts. - Lifeguard’s cell phone will not be on their person at any time during their shifts that they are on surveillance duty. - The lifeguard will keep lap swimmers organized during lap swim times and may if necessary, move swimmers to different lanes if a situation warrants. - If a staff member has a personal problem or grievance or a problem with a member it should be brought to the attention of a supervisor. - The lifeguard MUST attend all staff meetings and training events. - The lifeguard will NEVER leave the pool deck unattended for any reason.

  • Ensure proper set-up, maintenance and break down of on-site marketing and merchandising at poolside and throughout the property.  Clear, clean and organize all appropriate collateral and materials at the end of every shift. Ensure merchandise is properly stocked, displayed properly, signed with pricing, sold/ordered to customers’ needs and input into POS (Jackrabbit) correctly.

  • Check students in for swim class and to ensure that children are placed with the proper instructor and communicated on the lesson board.

  • Facilitate move-ups correctly with photographs, proper take-home materials, celebrate birthdays and milestones appropriately both at the pool and through social media when possible.

  • Take and post photos and videos appropriately to social media in a personal manner and encourage families to follow, like, comment and share.

  • Manage class schedules, attendance, lesson board, and report attendance.

  • Ensures Water Watchers program is deployed at all locations (contractually required at LA Fitness) and appropriate events. 

  • Attend staff meetings and ongoing training/coaching as requested by the Operations Manager or Franchise Business Owner.

  • Answer all customer questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner and resolve complaints and issues.

  • Promote sales for new enrollments, twice a week classes, no-drops, and siblings.

  • Assist instructors from the pool deck when they request assistance.

  • Ensure that all areas of the pool deck are kept safe and clean and all pool safety regulations, policies and procedures are being followed at all times.

  • Document and report accidents and injuries to supervisor as soon as possible.

  • Check all water quality, temperature, and chemical levels prior to first scheduled class of the day and rechecked periodically.

  • Work a flexible schedule that may include holidays and weekends as required by business needs and as requested by management.

  • Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Manager or Franchise Business Owner.
