Peer Advocate (6 - 15 Hours)
Description: The Peer Advocate will work at NVCSS Warm Line offering peer to peer support for mental health. Peer Advocate will provide non-crisis support over the phone. Position will report to the Program Supervisor.
Examples of Duties: Active, empathetic, and reflective listening to callers (or participants) concerns, supportive counseling, guidance, problem solving, coping and conflict management skills, crisis assessment, education about living with mental illness symptoms and community resources. Assist callers/participants to cope, problem solve and set goals for their own wellness and recovery.
Qualifications: A background in mental health will be helpful in working with callers/participants. This individual must be able to use good judgment, work independently as well as work with a team to serve callers/participants. This position will work with callers and community members to assist them in achieving their goals. Priority will be given to candidates who have had similar life experiences as the participants this position will be serving. Mental health consumers highly encouraged to apply. All candidates must pass the fingerprinting and background check.
