STEP2, a local non-profit organization, is seeking a Substance Use Disorder Counselor. This position provides case management and counseling services to women with chemical dependency, which may include co-occurring disorders. The person in this position conducts individual counseling sessions, facilitates group sessions, provides treatment planning and evaluation, and documents all services provided by her/him to clients. STEP 2 is an EEO. Position is open until filled.
I. Education and Training: A Master's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field is required. Licensure/certification as a drug/alcohol counselor is preferred.
II. Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience in substance abuse counseling or related field is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
III. Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge related to basic counseling techniques, case management procedures, intake procedures, and familiarity with the disease concept of addiction/alcoholism and issues related to prenatal substance abuse. Candidates must also possess the ability to write effective, concise, clear progress reports, as well as the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, supervisors, and co-workers.

STEP2 is a comprehensive residential and out-patient treatment program that provides women struggling to overcome substance abuse disorders, poverty and family violence the opportunity to rebuild their lives. STEP2 is the only program in Northern Nevada that allows women to maintain custody of their children while participating in treatment. The result is self-sufficient healthy families.
Annually, STEP2 approximately serves 250 women
Approximately one in five women in our community has a substance abuse problem.
STEP2 has a success rate of > 58% as compared to the national success rate of 17%.
Out of the women in STEP2’s programs, 70% have children. Children of clients receive services, including: child care, and counseling.
STEP2 employs 24 full-time staff with the following licenses or certifications: Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed or Certified Alcohol, Drug, Licensed Social Worker, and Certified Housing Specialist. Additionally, STEP2 contracts with a Clinical Psychologist and a Physician.
