Organization Background and Description:
Since 1994, Acknowledge Alliance has used the power of fostering resilience to help build positive connections between teachers and students to open the doors to learning and well-being. The foundation of Acknowledge Alliance started with the belief that, when a child has a caring adult in their life who holds high expectations and believes in them, they can succeed despite adversities. Acknowledge Alliance serves K-12 schools in the San Francisco Bay Area, integrating resilience into all levels of learning by: mentoring educators, counseling at-risk youth and teaching social emotional learning lessons for the whole classroom.

Acknowledge Alliance is currently staffed by 25 employees with degrees primarily in mental health and has a $1.8 million annual budget. The agency directly serves teachers, key school staff and youth in 31 schools located in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

Position Summary and Job Purpose:
The Grants and Development Manager reports to, and is a strategic work-partner with, the Executive Director.
Grant writing and grants management is a key responsibility of this position. In addition, the Grants and Development Manager will be the leader of the agency’s Fund Development efforts, and work closely with the ED, Board Fund Development Committee and the Board to implement overall strategies for grants management and research, major gifts, annual giving, foundation funder relationships and fundraising strategies for the annual spring gala, which is overseen and planned by the Marketing & Events Manager.

Acknowledge Alliance offers a great opportunity for the Grants and Development Manager to provide increased structure and strategic thought to our resource development to create a significant impact on the agency’s success. The ideal candidate will be proactive in researching new funding opportunities and be comfortable and confident in securing large, five and six figure foundation and individual gifts.

What you’ll do: (Responsibilities)
• Designs, implements and manages all agency fundraising activities and leads all aspects of fund development including significant grants research, grant writing and submission, annual campaign, major gifts and sponsorships for the annual fundraising event. The current annual fundraising goal for contributed revenue and earned income is approximately $1.1m
• Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.
• Collaborate closely with the Marketing & Events Manager, who is in charge of agency events, graphic design, marketing and communications including the annual report, newsletters and website.
• Work with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, program staff and the Fund Development Team in creating/developing the Fund Development Plan and enlisting Board and other volunteer support to achieve the goals of the plan. Develops annual development budgets, tracks financial performance, prepares the necessary interim financial reports and fundraising projections, and oversees department expenditures in collaboration with the Marketing & Events Manager and Executive Director.
• Co-manage, with Marketing & Events Manager, the fundraising budget and report progress against the goals of the plan.
• Provide excellent and timely stewardship of all individual, corporate and foundation donors, including identification, strategy development, cultivation, solicitation, data tracking, and acknowledgement.
• Oversee the gift acknowledgment, tracking, stewardship and cultivation processes of all donors.
• Collaborate with board members and staff on locating and cultivating funding opportunities, including responding to board member leads for prospective donors and researching new grant funding sources.
• Work closely with the Marketing & Events Manager on best practices for the spring fundraiser which includes a fund-a-need and auctions.
• Develop policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices.
• Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.
• Participate in community outreach meetings, grant workshops and partnership meetings.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with frequent and changing deadlines. Must be well organized and have a strong attention to detail.
• Excellence in the following skill areas: Written, verbal communication; project and time management; inter-personal; problem-solving; analytical; planning and implementation; deadline management; presentation skills; organizing, prioritizing and detail-tracking in a multi-project environment; working independently while working collaboratively
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn new donor and grant databases (currently using Live Impact), and proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
Standard office environment, equipment and tasks, work at computer terminals in an open floor plan. Office is on the second floor (no elevator). Work schedule is extremely flexible and telecommuting schedules are available. Three to four events per year require early morning or evening hours. Occasional local travel to meetings, events and school sites.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a nonprofit manager or director role, fund development or grant writing.
• Commitment to the areas of education and mental health.
• The following nonprofit-specific experience is highly desirable:
- Effectively working with boards, foundation funders, and individual donors.
- Proven success soliciting and securing major gifts of at least $10,000.
- Successful track record in writing grants and grant reports, managing a busy portfolio of grants, with preference for securing large, multi-year gifts.
- Knowledge of various funding sources in the San Francisco Bay Area including foundation, corporate, government and individual donors (particularly in Silicon Valley) is a plus.

Since 1994 Acknowledge Alliance, formerly The Cleo Eulau Center, has been working to promote resiliency and connectedness in students, educators and school communities.

Through our Resilience Consultation Program, we help educators maximize their ability to have a positive influence on the lives of children, building resiliency and social and emotional wellness in the school environment. Specifically the focus of our work is with Teachers, Administrators and Staff serving the K-8 population.

Through our Collaborative Counseling Program, we provide on-site psychotherapy services to youth on probation, incarcerated or at-risk of offending, including transformative individual and group therapy.
