Part-time Violin and Piano Teachers wanted for a growing music school in San Jose

Do you love music and want to share your knowledge with others? Do you want to make a difference in the life of a young musician? Are you patient and have a positive outlook?

If you said yes, Santa Teresa Academy of Music and Dance is the place for you! We are looking for a couple of violin and piano teachers to and guide our students as they explore and discover the joys of music.

Ideal candidates would have the following experience/skills:

  • Be encouraging and friendly as you help your students reach their musical goals
  • Be flexible and able to work with students of all ages
  • Be able to provide/create your own lesson plans
  • Be professional and punctual
  • Have prior teaching experience
  • A college degree in music is NOT required. Many of our best teachers are performers who have experience, are great with children and have an outgoing personality.

Pay rate: $24-30/ hour depending on experience

Our Story

Our mission is to help students of all ages develop a love and appreciation for music and dance to last their lifetime. 

Santa Teresa Academy of Music and Dance opened in the fall of 2014.  We are located in South San Jose and offer both music lessons and dance classes.  We cater mainly to children. We welcome adult students but our market area has a student base of mainly children.  We realize that most of our students will not become professional musicians or dancers. We strive to provide a fun but educational environment with well organized administration and first rate equipment and facilities.  

Here are reasons why music teachers choose to teach at our school over all other choices: 

  1.  Over the course of the year, students can move or quit.  This can leave a teacher with gaps or holes in their schedule.  Most students register and start lessons in September.  Most music schools only advertise in late August and September for new students.  At our school we spend a lot of money on advertising and marketing year round to keep our teacher’s schedules as full as possible.  Each year we spend thousands of dollars on advertising in various ways to constantly attract new students.  We are continually registering new students for our private music lessons even during typically slower registration months like May or June. 
  2.  Our full time front office staff handles all of the “details” of teaching.  Our teachers never have to ask the uncomfortable question, “Did you bring your money today?” Nor do they have to deal with difficult or pushy parents. (We respect your privacy and never give out your contact information to families.) From scheduling to collecting fees or arranging recitals, these details are handled by our administrators not the teacher. This means you are free to focus on teaching and not get bogged down by administration details. 
  3. If a student misses classes for school trips or holidays, the teacher is still paid.  If a student does not pay for their lessons or has an uncollectible debt, the teacher is still paid.  Our priority is to make sure that your time is not wasted and your teaching day is as productive as possible. 
  4. When a student at our academy misses a lesson, we offer them a one hour group class make-up session. (It is the student’s responsibility to sign up for the sessions so you never have to worry about this.) If a teacher has 6 students miss lessons in a given time period, that usually means at least 3 hours of lessons that need to be made up. With our group class make-up format, you can take care of all 6 students in just one hour.    
  5. When another teacher has to miss lessons for the day, we call from our list of current teachers first, giving you the opportunity to earn additional income.
